The directory is looking to illustrate the legendary quickness of Achilles. If you read the Iliad, Achilles was known for his quickness and speed. The kill-strike is even done in slow motion, as if to say, it would have happen too fast for the eye at normal speed. Achilles also knew he himself would die for offending the God Apollo.
all those atemps of altering history should be stoped. lots of people have seen the film Troy and think that they know what happened. they should not base their knowledge upon a holywood production. likewise MACEDONIA was in greece and skopia where known buck then as PEONIA. calling the people of bulgaria macedonians is wrong and against the history. stop helping them to alter the history for political reasons.
In terms of geography compared the USA, Thessaly would be considered basically New York and New England with the Mycenaeans coming out of Louisiana and the deep south.
Agamemnon would be saying "That's what the Alabaman's said and the Georgian's and the Pennsylvanian's and now they all fight for me".
jesus...they spent like taxpayers money to bring out thousands of pawns to fight each other...when they decide that brad pitt has to sword fight a professional wrestler
I can't tell if you're trying to be clever or not, but if you're not, I shall inform you. Magnus Samuelsson and Nathan Jones (Boagrius) have arm wrestled before in real life haha. Magnus broke Boagrius' arm.
For all you dumbasses who make foolish comments concerning Achilles, his most amazing feature was his speed. This scene looks to illustrates just how fast Achilles was. Achilles! Greatest warrior in human history. Apollo be damned.
if someone wonders why achilles wins this fight so easily: he is described in homer´s "iliad" as the greatest fighter of his generation. during the trojan war (which actually takes 10 years in the "iliad"), he battles the best warriors of troy and its allies, and always defeats them...
this scene is not a part of the "iliad", but is not so bad either: it introduces achilles as an excellent warrior - not only strong, but smart - but at the same time a very stubborn and selfish person
Do not fuck with Achilles, read the Iliad,a great mans book, all about war, wrath, arrogance, and violence,Telamonian Aias,a great warrior, and the book is about 3000 years old.
Of course Trojans were Greeks...The trojan war was a civil war (a common thing between greek city-states)!!! Oh! and the most accurate thing in the film is the blond Achilles...Homer wrote that he was blond...
What's the theme song, when Achilles enters the battle ground to fight Boagrius, i've downloaded nearly all of the Troy soundtracks via Limewire, but I haven't been able to find this one, any ideas?
Your video descriprion is wrong. You say "Greeks are about to fight Thessalians.." Thessalians are Greeks!!! As well as Arcadians, Macedonians, Trojans and Agamemnons Kingdom, the Mycaenians!!!
that's a stupid scene, yes. but it was meant only to show how "awesome" Achilles was, killing their "best fighter" in 5 secs. an exaggeration for a purpose.
szymusiek1980 ur totally wrong u see back in those times people would kill each other in seconds, not like those old hollywood movies where they stand infront of each other for 5 min. these people where experts 1-4 moves is all it took
This is the best demonstation of how Achilles could do away with his enemies no matter how big they were. I love this scene:"I have no king"! Indeed Achilles was a man on his own mission, and his name lives to this day!
Thessaly is part of Greece, just north of Thermopylae and south of Mount Olympus. THESSALIANS are from Thessaly. Thessalonians are from Thessalonika. The screenplay got the names mixed up.
No. It was located just above the pass of Thermopyla, as such it was never really regarded as "greek" by the Greeks, at best "Half-Greek" at worst Barbarian.

You have no idea what you're talking about. It's assumptions like that which make Achilles strategy work. That guy never expected someone to jump up and stab him in the lungs through his shoulder. Thus, he was never prepared for it.
That stab was deep enough to hit the lungs, but the death was either from hitting the heart or severing the subclavian artery. With scenes like this, it's usually the fight choreographer that decides the manner in which the fight ends, and he was likely a martial artist, so he knew the human anatomy. We focus a lot of weapon strikes to that area in my Kung Fu school.
You are both looking into it way too much. Its Hollywood. Rarely is anything accurate. As for the jump, that would have been very easy to swipe aside. If the giant would have stepped back with his left foot and swung horizontally with his blade, achilles would have been done.
He was actually stabbed through is Soft part between His Collar bone and Shoulder and went right through is Veins, Lungs, and then into his heart. Thats why he went down. If you stabbed someone in the lungs. And thats a big guy i dont think he woulda went down with a stab in the lungs.
Yeah and plus Achilles went from a full out sprint, which is what Boagrius was seeing, to a very slow couple of steps before he jumped up. That's why Boagius's swing is so off and that's what allows Achilles to simply jump and and stab the shit out of him.
it was the bronze age people fought straight forward because of the weight of the armor and weapon. Achilles' attack was not just unconventional it was unheard of. there's a reason why Achilles was the greatest warrior of all time
Buddy, this guy is a fucking giant who thinks he is going to clober this little greek pretty boy who is half his size, he has no idea what hits him when this guy drops all his gear, runs from the side and stabs him in the lungs threw his shoulder, did you even watch this scene?
dude your stupid.. the stabbing was in slow motion and clearly achilles is unusually fast.. he had him stabbed before he even got his sword drawn.. Most of ahcilles' moves in the movie are slow motion to translate his speed since brad pitt obviously cant move that quick
I agree, it's like he didn't see Achilles come which is unlikely. I would like this scene better if at least Achilles would have had to block the other guy's sword in midair before stabbing him or something. Would have made him look even more badass.
and notice at 6:42...he tried to hit Achilles but Achilles evaded by jumping to the right and took a stab...i dont think sum1 can attack and block at the same time
and obviously if u were fighting, u'd probe be shitting urself
This scene was in the beginning of the movie if the narrative didn't give it a way.. It was meant to show that Achilles was considered innevitable for the reason that he could have killed anyone without thinking twice about it. It is meant to give you the thought that Achilles is superior to everyone in the movie.
Achilles only needed one shot through the neck to kill a man, something that anybody that has taken human anatomy 101 would knwo. im guessing 4000 years ago, human anatomy wasnt a subject at the schools they didnt have.
its not that, the big guy doens't move fast.... i mean 7'2 at least 250 lbs......
Achillies - 150 lbs at 5'8 or so....who do you think is faster???????
Not to mention that stab he did, went through the collar bone, which has a huge hole in the top......and his blade is like 3-4 feet long..... he hit his heart with that move........
boagrius wasnt a good warrior. he relied too much on his overwhelming strength. he wouldnt have been ready for that in 100 years. compare that to the fight with hector.
Troy was in modern day Turkey, but not of Hittite origin for they share similar god worship with greece. Hittites are heavily influenced by mesopotamian culture. while Thesaly is one of the Greek-city states like Sparta... Anyway, the real Achilles would have looked more like an Arab than a blonde.. and reaaly comfortable wearing a mini-skirt hehe! LOL

Achilles was supposed to be a demigod of war not a single warrior woluld stand against him. and dont forget its mythology!

You miss the point. Achille is a god of war...he is a one man army. This fight is supposed to look effortless, and it was.

LOL
