In order for a tennis match to be great...both players have to play at a high level, which was not the case here. If people were to look at the stats, through each set...Federer and Nadal were not at their best at the same time in those sets. Was it a great match? Yes, but not the best final ever. To me the best final was Nadal vs Coria or Federer vs Nadal in Rome I think, which went to 5 sets also. This match has the best two passing shots that happened back to back though.

The match was to be honest of mediocre quality, but it had a very entertaining scoreline and the stakes were high for both players. Nadal's win was never in doubt, though. Federer struggled throughout the match to keep up with Nadal and in the 5th set the writing was on the wall. It was just a matter of waiting it out until Federer would finally run out of luck and succumb to Nadal's relentless pressure in every one of Federer's service games.

@MrGreenfingers09 Federer had the entertainment (personality) value of a cardboard box in my opinion, but he was so good I watched anyway. Djokovic is sometimes fun to watch sometimes he is a jerk, but he definately is not pretty to watch play tennis either. Worst number 1 so far in recent years.

@Anybody_who_cares: Please, please, please don't spoil the extraordinary Federer-Nadal rivalry by discrediting either of them. They are both all-time greats, and we're very lucky to have had them alive and playing in the same period! Tennis would be so much less without them. Who knows, maybe Nadal will get another RG title or two, maybe even Federer will do a Graf and come back to win a last Grand. Whatever happens, they'll both be remembered through the ages.

i still think that play should have been postponed. It was almost pure darkness. Roger should have one this grand slam easily. If rafa had lost I guarantee you he would have complained about some injury or it being too dark. I have nothing against rafa. he's a great tennis player but always has more excuses than a great player should have

Just pointing this out: Up until the 2008 Final when he lost to Nadal, Federer's last loss at Wimbledon was in the 1st Round to Mario Ancic back in 2002. The very next year when Federer started his run at Wimbledon, Nadal played Ancic in the 1st Round and won. Even then Nadal had something over Federer.

@ghlover2001 well, djokovic is CLEARLY the best player in the world right now. Federer has beaten the beast this year. Nadal has failed to do that.
and not only that, but djokovic has taken away nadals strength and made it his own. Federer's strength is still there. He still has the best stroke, and the most grand slams and wimbledons, which is better than the french open any day.
Nadal is a one-hit wonder. Federer is a legend. THAT, more than anything, is why federer is the best

I don't understand why everyone's harping for a Federer v. Nadal final. There's no tension/excitement, because Nadal always wins those nowadays, I'd rather see someone else in the final. Like this recent French Open Final, I didn't even bother watching it because it's practically pre-determined, Federer just can't beat Nadal anymore.
