  • Oh god, standing at that barricade waiting for them to come back out was soooo hot. We knew they would come back but it felt like it was taking hours !

  • This is what happens when you crank the awesome knob up to 11.

  • Perfect time for an aoustic set.

  • Did anyone else notice the crowd singing the "beers on the wall" song?

  • 40 minutes of my life I can never have back

  • @nivekab 40 minutes of your life that 10 000 000 NiN fans will never have, I'd seen them three times in 18 months, so threw this gig off-what was I thinking!! Would happily carve the NiN tattoo from my leg to swap all I'd seen for this one night.

They came back on stage, if this was Guns and Roses, Pumpkins, RHCP, name your classic rock wanker, your night would have ended in a riot.

  • @jevonbargen It's had to believe trent does anything without planning it. there were a few things that seemed odd to me at the time, Like the large amount of water they had on hand to pass out to the crowd before anyone new what was happening, the power lights on amps and other equipment on stage still on, the power on to surrounding buildings, the amount of time it took to fault find and the fact they felt a need to justify themselves on youtube with this clip. Other bands are not the issue.

  • trent lied. there were songs on that set list that they didnt play.

love you reznor... but lies make baby jesus cry.. or something.

  • ShOulD Of ChECk ThE FuSe BoX

  • hi folks, I just upload my first video with another NIN's song. your rates and comments will help me alot in the future xD

    watch?v=edqJhdQPgHg

  • "Welcome to the band, Ilan".

  • anyone know why they had to change the songs? what would that accomplice?

  • Think About It. You're At A NIN Show And You're Having The Time Of Your Life And All Of A Sudden, Shit, Everything Stops. Trent Knows Exactly What The Audience IS Going Through Right Now And I Guess It's Just To Get The Crowd Started Up Again. Its A Good Way To Surprise The Crowd. Know What I Mean

  • so 1,000,000 is to get them started up? although i know what you mean but what is the song he wants to play 1,000,000?

  • I would know what you mean, but it's just so damn hard reading what you're saying when you capitalize the first letter of every word like a kindergartner.

  • @ToOlOGT22

Yeah i was at this show, you can see me in the crowd. They did 1,000,00 to pump up the crowd cos we were jsut standing around for ages. 1,000,000 got us back into the flow and the concert was amazing from there on in again.

  • Existential crisis of the electronic artist: If my power goes out, I'm no longer a musician. Should I sell all my gear and buy a djembe?

  • Any artist with a PA, playing to more than 100 people you mean? It's not as if a guy who plays a djembe can play to that many people without power.

  • Don't be a dick. It's a problem of logistics. A jazz trio, solo acoustic act or a fucking spoken word artist is going to have trouble performing in front of more than 100 people without aid of the power and PA system.

Part of NiN's act is the electronic portion of the music, but it's also the environment of all the lights and electric backdrop behind them. Not to mention they use an extremely intricate audio system.

  • WE ROCKED IT TOO HARD AND THE POWER WENT OFF!! nice one

  • I was formerly a sound engineer and this brings back memories of this happening to me a couple of times. All those eyes looking at you as if it was you that pulled the plug! I'm glad they where able to get on and finish the show.

  • I just seen myself in that video getting pulled out of prime position by security =[ hated that security guyy. made me loose my spot for the rest of the show.

  • Yeah i don't know about the rest of the world so much but the majority security guards in aus can go fornicate their grandparents for all i care, "security" lol

  • Why did he pull you out? I remember being in the front row a NIN lollapalooza 2008 and the security guy kept trying to pull me out. I guess he thought I was getting hurt or something. I was pretty wasted but I was fine. I had to rip myself out of his hands several times before he left me alone...

  • i was getting knocked around pretty bad and cause im only short and was at rail he seemed tro think i was a whimp.

i wanted to kill him. fucker. LOL

  • Somethings gonna get BROKEN!!!!!!!!!!

  • No, something GOT broken.

  • classic trent moving 1,000,000 to the top to kick it off with a bang again and make the show as awesome as possible!

  • damn i live in baltimore! they never seem to tour anywhere near here and the DC tickets were sold out by the time i found out there were playing there! I REALLY WANNA SEE EM!

  • What are you talking about. They just came to DC a few months ago.

  • and they were sold out... can u read?

  • At Merriweather? No, they weren't sold out. I got my ticket the day of!

  • I love how down to earth Trent is about it all. Something could've gotten broken (har har har...) but not this time.

  • woulda been kinda funny if the power went out again at 4:27

  • LOL!

  • haha i was thinkin the same thing.

  • the tech people are lucky that Trent isnt acting like in the 90's, im sue he would be in jail for the murders of them tech peoples.

  • It wasn't Tec's fault, power grid for part of Syd was down; I was there.

  • he has most of my favorite NIN songs on that list...

id sell my soul for those tix...and to see that show.

  • the song closer is not on the list on 1:51 lol

  • They didn't play it at Perth either, which was a shame.

  • Eh, Closer is overrated... It was a pop hit, I'll take his current work or ANY track off TDS any day over that one. Also, he even said at one point that he couldn't stand the teeny-boppers all grinding to one of his songs while having no clue about the rest of his music.

  • hurricane, germany.... cant wait... hope they play 1,000,000 at the beginning!!^^

  • ???

  • Technical Difficulty? Nine Inch Nails? NEVER!

  • they wre effin' amazin' yesterday.

  • seeing NIN in London in July - will be my 4th time seeing Trent - very excited!! Ive been an avid fan for around 14 years!

  • atlanta GA the 10th baby

  • The material you tooked is MF great.

    Amazing band.

  • NIN ROCKS THERE THE BEST

  • like in the very beginning? lol that is trent i think

  • PNC on June 6th? I'll be there.

  • Susquehana on the 5th

  • how funny is the escape plan. Sydney is so tame, no chance of a riot!

  • thumbs up if you're going to go see them in concert soon.

  • yea bro, seeing 'em in noblesville, IN

    rock 'n roll!

  • Worst attempt to troll, ever.

  • if it's NIN, I could wait for days until they fix technical difficulties.

  • i wonder why they were so worried about their safety with us? did they think we were gonna burn the place down or something haha!

probably the last time we'l see them in Aus and it was a night il never forget =)

  • Erm, why was there a child whining from what appeared to be the backstage area? *raises eyebrow*

  • Because there was one there.

  • this is a good answer. ^

  • Was an awesome show, shame the encores were cut. Also, when the power came back on, the air conditioning didn't :(

If only there was some Bohemian Rhapsody footage from the mosh pit! Thanks again to Robin for throwing us some water on the rail - the ACES staff we're pretty terrible in that regard.

  • nah dude, the aircon came back on, but it simply wasn't powerful enough to deal with the rise in temperature which happened during the poweroutage. Not enough time to cool everything down again. Was there too.

  • Comment removed

  • This is what will happen at all concerts if we don't switch to renewables!

  • YOUR PRETTY PATIENT PEOPLE..KUDOS

  • well, such things could happen.better wait awhile than go home at the end, cause technic stuff couldnt get fixed.the main thing is the show carried on,instead of been canceled.then i would be pissed.

  • Somebody's little girl is talking while the band's heading back onstage. I love babies with strong opinions! :)

  • i guess this is by far not the first time that nin faced a power outage on stage so i guess you get used to the fact that you just have to wait it out no matter how big you are. proves their character though. suprisingly i was mostly amazed by the scanlines the 5d mk2 produces when the lightguys launch the strobo-leds.

  • So glad this got posted, shows how great the band was in a crisis, and the patience of the fans as well. Oh yeah... you rock power dudes!!!

  • "we rock it to hard." nice line Trent.

  • is that Danny Lohner walking around after the power comes back on?

  • I weep for the loss of JMJ's jew-fro.

  • i wonder if all the live footage theyre uploading is going to be on the DVD...

  • this truly gives anyone and everyone an idea just how professional and not to mention classy trent is with certain situations, and how he treats his fans. he gives them the dignity and respect he feels they deserve, if not more, and he tries his hardest not to disappoint them. there are so many bands out there that should be watching this and taking notes. this is how you stay in the business for 20+ years, folks. just awesome.

  • I remember ever second of this power shortage, great to see what they were all thinking / doing behind stage. Even though we missed a good 30 mins of a show, it was still a fucking fantastic show! Love NIN!

  • haha... ilan: "we should just... let's just finish it acoustic."

  • This shows how Trent loves his fans!

  • hey justin has a kid!

  • he has 2 in fact xD... girls..

  • and he brings them on tour? sweet!

  • pretty reasonable guy for being a rock star

  • He is. Very professional musician.

Caught him like 3 days into the start of the tour in Calgary and they had some issues at the beginning of Echoplex so Trent stopped it and was just like, "ok when one or two things fuck up we can usually go on but when 5 or 6 fuck up we gotta start again. We want to get it perfect for you." and explained how they just started the tour and all.

  • trent reznor is so freaking sexy...gah *drool*

  • yeah... has anyone else noticed how fucking hot he looked in that vid imparticular? when he's wearing that red shirt and talking to the viewers at home...

my god. now he may be twice my age... but dear god the things i would do to him with or without his permission.

  • I love that Trent cares enough about the music and the crowd momentum to rearrange the set list and put 1,000,000 as an opener.

  • mmm

  • as a nin fan i know you nin fans know a lot about camera, artwork, etc. and i was wondering if any of you would know what the best hd camcorder thats the cheapest price would be? thanks

  • I just got a sony HDR-SR11 for $650 on ebay, and I cannot believe how bad ass this video camera is

  • shit happens but at leas t the show went on

  • RIIIIIIGHT... It wasn't your fault, TR... It was just the assholes around the arena.

  • I know nine inch nails band memebers change all the time, but without josh, not so good.

    JOSH FREEZE IS THE MAN!!!!

  • josh freese is awesome, but this new guys pretty damn good to, especially when you consider he's only 20.

  • and alessandro??

    what about ale??

    xD

  • Right?!

  • they may not have done an encore but they still played around 22 songs which is pretty damn good. and boo hoo if they did'nt pay closer, you know the do have other songs. if you think of it from trent's point of view he's probably bored of playing closer, and anyone that's seen them more than once could be getting bored of hearing them play it.

i've seen nin 3 times now and one thing that i find great about them is that every set they do is completely different.

  • Agreed. That was the fifth time I've seen them and I think that the setlist (particularly the Ghosts containing one at Soundwave) was tailored towards the older fans. I mean... The Downward Spiral live..... ahhh I can die happy! But I didn't really need to see Closer or even Hurt again live. brillianr show.

  • Hahaha! that was fucken awesome!

Even thought waiting for 40 mins got a bit annoying, but it was sooo worth it!

    Trent was a GOD!

  • fuck yeah, the way trent handled it was awsome.

    Also

98 bottles of beer on the wall, 98 bottles of beer, if one should fall.........

  • That was heaps cool. Fuck, if I was the security dude I would be overwhelmed being in Trent's presence lol

  • Awesome

  • HAHA, i was there, i thought it was i joke

  • haha, I love the YEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!! when Trent comes up on stage again.

  • They "rocked too much"? ahahah! AMAZING band!

  • first up, there was no unhappiness etc in the crowd - we just waited patiently... some singing some queen (sad but true - i'm sure there was irony in there somewhere!)... although it would have been nice if the bar was open! (power off though damnit). they didn't play closer/starfuckers on ANY of the shows (that i know of) in oz. the only song they didn't play that i expected (after seeing them at soundwave) was Hurt. but they pretty much played the full set as far as i could tell.

  • this is how badass trent is, his show held a country's electrical power hostage

  • Fuck Ilyan i love you.. hes so lucky to drum for him!

  • The power grid buckled under Trent's sheer awesomeness.

  • Haha, couldn't have said it better myself.

  • horden pavillion = shit venue

  • thx for video, share more, guys :)

  • umm... did they actually play the encore? on the piece of paper he has it says they were gona play 4 songs in the encore, but after head like a hole the stage lights went off and the house lights came back on, i waited abit n heeps of ppl left so left aswell. did i miss it?

  • 'Hurt' is normally the encore, did they do it while you where there? if not you missed them coming back maybe.

But if you look at the set list on the paper, 1,000,000 the 1st song was like half way near the bottom but opened all the shows on the LITS tour

  • They didn't really do an encore... It kind of felt that the "intermission" meant that they would just keep playing instead of doing an official encore...

  • Guess you guys were too hot for the place. Glad the Aussie's got to hear the rest of your set

  • If the lights went out in one of their shows and I'm there, I'd go backstage and rape Trent.

  • lmfao! XD

  • Ha ha ha! :-)

  • this is the NIN Ive missed so much!!!

  • Cool stuff! Thanks for sharing.

  • i remember when i was there i couldnt stop laughing at the fact he said HULKAMANIACS lololololol

  • I'm pretty excited for them to announce the NA tour dates!

  • Trent is so awesome...I think he would be an awesome person to meet one day.

  • trent has really cleaned his act up and he is just so clean and genuine to his fans and everything

    xox

  • This why I love this band , they are truely devoted to their fans, I bet Trent doesn't do this for the money (like most of the shitty bands of now-a-days) , Trent does this for the MUSIC , for his FANS . LONG LIVE TRENT , LONG LIVE NIИ .

  • Ooh... the backwards N is a nice touch.

  • Thank You Trent!

  • Couldn't trent just sing karaoke or something through the megaphone? I'd totally pay to see thAT! *o*

  • and that's why Trent Reznor KICKS ASS PERIOD. I need to see NIN live before I die. damn the hiatus :S

  • Same here, dude. I still have not and it fucking sucks. BUT the unofficial your dates say they are coming close to home (for me)!

  • I imagine he wished to exculpate himself as well as let the fans know he was thinking about them by posting this video. He has every right to do this of course, and I only admire him more for it.

  • lol trent changed his shirt before he came back onstage. :)

  • Freaking HOT

  • Comment removed

  • cool shit, NIN!!!

  • You really have to respect performers and artists who have a huge following/fanbase. They had to keep it in the back of their mind that if the crowd did get hostile, they were going to have to bolt out the back door with drivers already waiting. They handled it very well and the audience seemed to be patient. They still have to keep their guard up at all times, which really makes me appreciate my privacy.

  • WOOHOO!

  • Why aren't you guys angry? He had every intention of playing the full set, but at the end of Head like a Hole the stage lights went down, main lights up and no encore, not even a chance for Reznor to speak. This mean that for probably the last tour NIN does, and not to mention a $100 ticket, they didn't play Starf*ckers, Closer or Hurt.

Angry emails to Hordern please guys, we don't deserve to be treated like that.

  • Just be happy he didn't get pissed off and cancel the show.

Trent has bent over backwards for us fans as it is and the fact that he waited all the time to carry on for you guys is awesome.

  • And also, Trent has said ''take it away for a while'' 'a while', i can garuntee he'll do one more run in like 4 years time.

  • I know Trent had every intention of completing the set. His energy throughout was unbelievable. My issue lies with the venue, as the power failure was their responsibility, and so it was up to them to do what they could for us paying punters.

I've been thinking this through since then and every reason I've speculated has had a reasonable solution (albeit one that may cost the Hordern a few extra dollers in staff overtime etc.).

  • And it all could've been avoided with maybe a quick cull of less popular songs, I'm guessing it wasn't Reznor's decision to omit The Beginning of the End, Suck, Dead Souls and Hurt over, say, The Slip.

  • Oh ok, i see what you mean now, i thought you was jumping on Trent! Enough fans moan as it is!

I can understand though, i've heard it's not the first time this has happened at thast venue, so i agree, people should be writing in their droves to the venue. I'd of been seriously pissed with them!

  • I love that line, "The crowd's getting irritable, as they should be"

    PRICELESS!

  • I was there, but up the back so I couldn't hear what Trent was saying over the megaphone. The crowd sang Bohemian Rhapsody, it was great.

  • lol that was me

  • I love this backstage stuff. You really don't get much footage like that of NIN these days :)

  • I think they uploaded this to make people who were there to know of their intentions to play the whole set... NIN is really devoted to their fans...you don't see many bands that are so dedicated to us nowadays... I see Trent thinking all the time in his audience...Putting himself in their place.

Shows are made for us, you can see that, and you can feel that when you go to their gigs.

  • WTF? NIN TOO? This happened at Slipknot Machine Head too - Horden Pavilion really needs to up its game.

  • awesome stuff. reznor is the master. nin is such an underrated band, its rediculous that so many people dont know about this genious.

  • "And uh, we rocked it too hard and the power went off."

    THE MAN IS PURE AWESOME.

  • What camera is shooting this? it has a nice DoF for digital

  • It's a Canon 5D Mark II, and the footage is shot by Rob Sheridan, as was all the Sydney footage

  • damnit how did I miss this concert! I literally work right beside the venue and I had no idea! :'(

  • damn... i'd wait hours to listen to you guys finish your set. fuk'n seriously.

  • I love that you guys filmed that.

  • trent reznor 1987: pass the fucking JD. I finished all this coke. GOD MONEY I'LL DO ANYTHING FOR YOU

trent reznor 2009: OK gentlemen. The electricity appears to be out in this venue. What are next steps?

  • love u too trent, although we are still waiting in colombia for you to come!

  • ^_^ thank you, so much.

(BTW: Trent, you still got your good looks)

  • Dam they sound good.

  • NIN, Seriously is one of the BEST bands, And Trent is easily the best frontman in MUSIC.

Since he, doesnt care about downloading, remixing and all that celebrity shit. He has fame, money and everything. but he NEVER forgets who got him there. The fans.

Trent, from me to you, Im sure I speak for every NIN fan, We love you, and thank you

  • Wow thats really cool that they were filming backstage, gives you a chance to see how they are in a more real setting.

  • I counted about 22 songs on that setlist, damn.

(Pause it at about 1:53 and you can see the list pretty clearly)

  • Holy Crap... Trent's not a little kid anymore huh? I guess neither am I!

  • Wow, look at the playlist. It looks like there are about 25-30 songs!

  • Hah luckily I had a nice cool beer, sat back and chilled for the "intermission" =p

  • Wow, thats crazy to have the show stop like that. This video just shows how much Trent loves his fans and loves to play for us.

  • That is the most i have seen Trent talk (without singing.) since he cut his hair.

Love the band Listen for 13 years (half a year over half of my life.) and saw them in concert for the first time last year at Øya Festivalen Loooooved it. (and i don't love many things, I'm no whore... :D)

  • Thanks for sharing! I LOVE behind the scenes stuff. I could just watch the band drink water, its riveting!!
