got this camera and having alot of problems with quality especially in low lighting, getting alot of motion blue and pixilation, anyone got any pointers for importing quality? also thinking about selling it for a canon DSLR with HD recording.

@tomduff89 I has so small sensors if you compare it to DSLR's. Canon xl1s was great camera 10 years ago. But it's too old nowdays. I also sold mine two years ago.

i need a little help, im about to buy a mac in australia and either a canon xl1 or xl1s from usa, im aware that they record in NTSC not PAL which is what we use here in australia, does anyone know weather this will create any problems for me when viewing/editing/playing back?

@icouch This is the PAL camcorder not the NTSC model. Same camcorders just different frame rates for PAL and NTSC markets.

Hi. Your videos are awesome. I'm working with my Canon XL1 in parties, and editing in my Imac with FCP HD express. Usually I finish projects in 100 minutes length with 20 to 25 GB each. Good to make clear that FCP Express HD, do not includes Compressor. The thing is : If someone knows the proper settings in XL1 and FCP EXPRESS Pro HD to export MiniDV tapes and burn it in IDVD or BLUE RAY with Crystal clear results (or look alike) in a 52 inch plasma HD 1080, I will be very happy to read it.

@LFMtvChannel7 The Canon XL1 does not shoot HD and neither does the XL2. The (somewhat) new XL S does shoot HD. Although the XL 1&2 don't shoot HD the image is great and for 1/8th of the price(XL1– About 1/2 for XL2) of the XL S it's a pretty damn good camera.

@gjflix Hey. Thanks for your answer. I know that my XL1 it's not HD. The question is: If your export the files from Final Cut HD Express in 1920x1280, I wonder if the files will be HD (or look alike) to show in a 50 inch HD T.V. The idea comes because I was thinking to buy a Blue Ray Burner, to get those files out of the computers in HD to watch it in Blue Ray..

People say this camera is outdated, past it's best and that the HV20 is better.. I disagree. I own the HV20 but want this so badly. It creates something beautiful. Who cares about HD, this camera is beautiful.

@GeorgeMaier The HV20 is a consumer camcorder - this is a pro level camcorder- there is a difference. If you want one of these - you can pick em' up for about £500 on ebay.

Hi, I think you should buy hdv camera like canon xha1. It haves a lot better quality. If u buy a used one you can get it pretty cheap. And if your filming alot of action and handheld make sure your camera haves CCD censors not CMOS censors. Otherwise you'll have this so called ''rolling shutter''

Hi. No you cant change the frame rate. Maybe on post, but not in the camera. Newer HD-cameras like sony ex1 one have ntcs or pal options which is pretty neat.

thanks. i actually tried render this video with many different options.

i found that the best way is to render file as mov. and using h.264 codec. i used adobe premiere so i scaled video to 1024x576.
