The distinction has to be made between 5th and 15th because the 5th Regiment (el quinto regimento) was under the command of Enrique Lister and was exclusively Spanish. I don't think mixing them up does justice to the memory of combatants in in either section of the Republican Army.

Pedantically, 'decimo quinto' either as a noun or adjective is correct, as is 'quince.'

Dragged kicking and screaming out of Ireland (to England) at the age of ten, he was my mentor on Irish History for the next 40 plus years. You're right, at times of trouble you don't choose your friends. At Finnish Winter War one of our most important supporters was Mussolini's Italy with their ideas about 'crusade against Bolshevism', whereas Hitler's Germany sided with Stalin. I know it's a bit awkward to fight for democracy with Fascist guns, but however they killed Russians just as effectively as weapons from democratic countries. If Frank Ryan got guns from Germany to kill Brits and fight for the Irish freedom, good for him!
