In fact, Digi-eggs don't seem to even exist in this season.

But I agree, season 3 does seem to show the death of digimon alot, but I think they where referring to a point where a digimon is beaten and the data is either consumed by another digimon or deleted. If so, eventually that digimon would be beaten and set the consumed data free.

When the one that combines all the code crowns together has the power to remake the Digital World in his image, and bring back any Digimon he wishes. That was Taiki's plan in the last episode to gain the Code Crown and bring back Shoutmon, so they have a chance to beat Bagramon.

And it makes sense why it'd be like that, after all, this Series is WAR-BASED. If characters just came back to life as Digi-Eggs RIGHT AFTER THEY GET KILLED, then we wouldnt have such emotional deaths like we did, now would we?

Digivolution as a natural process, whilst caused by power, could be indicated by age. The motif can be found in the japanese names of some stages, which were the ones likely to come about by just existing and absorbing data over time (Baby, child, adult). Only digimon that managed to survive a REALLY long time were likely to reach the mega/ultimate level naturally, as they'd been able to gather enough power. This is why digivices are such a big deal - they cut the time process down by centuries.

@pokegnome2 In previous seasons, all Digimon are shown to break down in forms if they lose energy, no matter who they are or if they belong to a tamer. As such, it's NOT age. It's a measure of how powerful they are. In Xros Wars, they don't suffer this; all Digimon stay at their form regardless, bar those affected by the Xros Loader, as age dictates. Not power. So you're incorrect; this season is the first where digivolution is a strictly natural process when looked at commonly.

If you take in large surges of power, such as from a digivice or absorbing other digimon, then you get there faster, but can expect to go back. This series is certainly an exception in that the age itself affects your form, even if the same one. Baalmon goes from a shrimp to being just the right height needed for Beelzemon.

But surges of power in previous seasons do allow them to Digivolve, such as the original Leomon to his mega form. The point is that age in previous seasons hasn't matter, it's just been incidental. In this, it's all that matters.

I'd actually forgotten about Leomon's digivolution to his mega level. And yeah, it does seem to be what matters. @AtlantaHammy In all other series, digivolution isn't aging. It's powering up. In this one, "digivolving" is simply an aging process. This is lampshaded by Tactimon in reaction to the first Flash Digivolution; "Not possible! It took me ages to achieve this form!"

It's not power boosting, as much as a passing of time. And Flash Digivolving is just an intensely rapid passing of time.

Also, Warp Digivolution is simply a skipping-forms mechanic.
