@drdexter Thanks, I think it is for the best with me, at least now my wireing looks in better shape, and now I need to designe the layout for next year
@wattass7 Thankd Hugh, just now managed to re-lay the track and all is working, so next is to re -designe the scenics, and a bit more wireing to be done,
All the Best to you and your Family for Xmas and the New Year
Don't you hate it when you spend hours looking in the wrong place for a short. You certainly went to town tracking this one down. It is all part of the fun of the hobby. Have a good Christmas any way.
@robmasterman Certainly gavd me a headache that one Bob, but sorted now, and now useing proper connectors for the droppers to the bus , so hopefully should prevent it happening again, and as I said , gives me a chance now to re-designe the layout, keep me busy for a few of the winter month`s.
@Rabbitbunvoo found the fault now , but it had me puzzled , it was one of the droppers to the BUS line that was causing the short, and of course even after disconecting all tracks and bus , it was still shorting due to the tracks being interconected with the bus .
@2009trains thanks for your confidence Trev, think it will take a little longer than I thought, just finished re -0wireing the lights and the bus, and compleated 2 of the main tracks , so hopefully will have the track all laid by next week, ..then we start !!
@hollpoll Certainly are a problem Stuart . but now sorted and have spent 2 days re-wireing a new BUS line with new droppers all connected with proper connectors instead of just joining the wires, so finger crossed can now start redesigneing the layout
@karelfromholland Thanks, not easy to find , but that is what happened to mine on the droppers to the BUS line, took some finding, but new Horizons as they say.
sorry to hear you have probs sometimes these are the problems that get us motivated again to change things ,im ripping up about 3 station platforms next year have to make my layout more organised its a right old mess down at eppsfleet lol
@steveallen808909 As you say seve, it gets us motivated to make that change that we where going to do ...sometime....but same time could do without the hassle of finding the fault.
Finding an electrical shorts can cause me to pull my hair out, that is when I should have became a Railroad Electrican instead of a Engineer. I'm glad you found the fault Dave, that is a wonderful layout.
@REGWARNE12 Bit of a problem that short caused, and me being ham fisted went a bit far trying to find the fault Phil, but just starting to get it back , but as you know trying to re-lay on board that has been used before is not easy, Keeps mye busy ?/
Thats a bit of a bummer Dave sorry to hear it , but I too have had this experience in the distant past, I do hope this gives you an opportunity to make the area a little differently, as you say all good fun ! best wishes Chris............
@chrisrussell1 This things are sent to try us Chris, and as you say an opportunity to change part of the layout, always a problem with baseboards though when been ballasted , it is a begger trying to get it smooth again.
@sheba31 Just glad I found what the problem was Tony, took me 2 days, always something that does not come to mind to start with, and thinking when I had disconected the bus , that it could not be the cause. But it was.
i think it was just an excuse to get away from xmas shopping with the stigg, ruddy el if im going to have all these problems with dcc ,ill go back to dc , by the way dave my problem with my 66 sound ,was the chip had burnt out,so another £100.00 for a new one,
@488scooby My own fault Ste, should have checked that bus line first not last, it teaches something all the time, ...start playing golf , could work out cheaper.?/ Nearly as bad as having to buy a new sound chip ? least that is easaly amended, passed your comment on to the Stigg and she thinks you are right
much work Dave. The electrical problem is good to keep in mind before making a large model, throughout its design to be simple after repair. But you're used to the great work. that it is better than before.
Hi Dave…I live in dread of this happening to my layout, and as I said on my web site WHEN!!! it does eventualy quit I will lock the garage door and leave the country…..Looking forward to the reincarnation!! of your new layout.
@HillsideModelRailway Hi Sam , just glad it was found, what I could not understand was I had diconected the bus from the mains, and diconected all joins between the tracks, but of course under the layout the bus was still conected to each seperate track , so when I was testing eack track individually it was still connected via the bus, did my head in to be honest, but oportunity to change a few things now.
@howarth004 I dont understand wiring thats why I'm not DCC(but I do use four controllers) kept my wiring simple and basic and yes I used the same two colour wires throughout. So Dave what ideas do you have for your layout?.
@percomotion Not too sure as yet , but want to incorparate a tunnel again , and maybe put the Town scene up above , have to get all that trackwork sorrted first and as you will know once lifted it is a begger to clean the baseboard and usually I begger up the points when uplifting them
I know the feeling well Dave.
