  • I know the feeling well Dave.

  • @is1943 It gives us a chance to make changes, but that short took some finding

  • Interesting video Dave.

Too bad that you had to dismantle so much. Well that you've found the mistake and this is good.

  • @WoelkerVideo Cheers Gunter, now it give me a chance to re designe the layout for next year

  • Ive been through that sort of problem myself, but it all worked out for the best in the end. good luck and have fun.

  • @drdexter Thanks, I think it is for the best with me, at least now my wireing looks in better shape, and now I need to designe the layout for next year

All the Best to you and your Family for Xmas and the New Year

    Dave

  • Don't you hate it when you spend hours looking in the wrong place for a short. You certainly went to town tracking this one down. It is all part of the fun of the hobby. Have a good Christmas any way.

    Ken

  • @KEFKen 1 Certainly caught me out Ken, but hopefully now rectified and a chance to re-designe the layout

All the Best for Xmas and New Year

  • Good on you Dave, I'm sure the new section will be better than ever, and I look forward to see it in the new year....Bob

  • @robmasterman Certainly gavd me a headache that one Bob, but sorted now, and now useing proper connectors for the droppers to the bus , so hopefully should prevent it happening again, and as I said , gives me a chance now to re-designe the layout, keep me busy for a few of the winter month`s.

    Cheers Dave

  • @robmasterman I still waiting here! :) Have a good Christmas!

  • MO WAY!!!!! hope it gets back into action soon!! :)

  • @mongoosekid14 So do I , but yes have solved the electrics now, so just a case of re-planning the layout a bit

    Cheers

    Dave

  • Hi Dave. I went back and paused the video. It looked dessolate. As if Beeching had been! Well done for eventually finding the fault.

  • Aww man that's tragic, hope it's back to normal again soon!

  • @Rabbitbunvoo found the fault now , but it had me puzzled , it was one of the droppers to the BUS line that was causing the short, and of course even after disconecting all tracks and bus , it was still shorting due to the tracks being interconected with the bus .

    We live and learn

    DAve

  • patience of a saint ? realy feel for you but i know you can rebuild cant wait to see the results regards trev

  • @2009trains thanks for your confidence Trev, think it will take a little longer than I thought, just finished re -0wireing the lights and the bus, and compleated 2 of the main tracks , so hopefully will have the track all laid by next week, ..then we start !!

    DAve

  • Shorts are some of the hardest things to find and can be ebought to make you pull your hair out sometimes, good luck with the relaying and rewiring

    Stewart

  • @hollpoll Certainly are a problem Stuart . but now sorted and have spent 2 days re-wireing a new BUS line with new droppers all connected with proper connectors instead of just joining the wires, so finger crossed can now start redesigneing the layout

    dave

  • I happend 3 times to me that wires were touching. I feel sorry for you.

  • @karelfromholland Thanks, not easy to find , but that is what happened to mine on the droppers to the BUS line, took some finding, but new Horizons as they say.

    Cheers

    Dave

  • Absolutely heart-breaking to see the layout all dismantled Dave.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the rebuilding!

  • @Staratino It will keep me busy Rikki , just very confusing, flustrating, and a pain in the butt. O well!!

    Cheers

    Dave

  • sorry to hear you have probs sometimes these are the problems that get us motivated again to change things ,im ripping up about 3 station platforms next year have to make my layout more organised its a right old mess down at eppsfleet lol

  • @steveallen808909 As you say seve, it gets us motivated to make that change that we where going to do ...sometime....but same time could do without the hassle of finding the fault.

    Cheers

    Dave

  • unluky i had that promblem on my old layout

    hope you get it fixed

  • @TheBlinky126 I have found the fault, but it is putting all back to-gether that now is the pronblem

  • Hi Dave, Best of luck with maintenance and will look forward to a 'Grand Opening' video when all is complete. Happy soldering!

  • @PineTreeJunction Thanks Lindsay, I think it could be a while, but got a bit done now and so far so good.

    Dave

  • @howarth004 Keep on chuffing Dave. We need to see those videos from our favourite indoor railway!

  • Finding an electrical shorts can cause me to pull my hair out, that is when I should have became a Railroad Electrican instead of a Engineer. I'm glad you found the fault Dave, that is a wonderful layout.

  • @ATSF1927 I did the same Don, and not a lot left, but as said fault found , so now it is trying to designe something new.

    Cheers

    Dave

  • Poor chap.

  • @Cornishnproud123 These things are sent to try us .........but wish they didn`t

  • Glad you found the short Dave! They are never found quickly enough, are they? Cheers,Peter

  • @strafrag1 Cheers Peter, yes it was only after more or less destroying half my layout that it was discovered....we live and learn

    Dave

  • Sorry to hear about your problems , that is certainly a major bit of refurbishment about to take place !!!!! Phil

  • @REGWARNE12 Bit of a problem that short caused, and me being ham fisted went a bit far trying to find the fault Phil, but just starting to get it back , but as you know trying to re-lay on board that has been used before is not easy, Keeps mye busy ?/

    Dave

  • Ouch! ahh well we modellers love to model, it will keep you busy Dave. Have fun mate.

  • @sperojunction Fun we call it...??? Keeps the gey matter working I supppose , but a pain in the but some times..LOL

    Dave

  • Oh dear that was a biggie. Hope u give us a few videos on how lay scenary ect.

  • @poisonarrowfrog100 Hope someone can send me a video on how to wire up , which is easy then to find a fault ...we all learn by mistakes.

    Cheers

    Dave

  • that is a bugger!! On the positive side.......looking forward to see what you do next with your layout! Looking forward to the next update!

  • @MrRozboy I can think of better words that a bugger, ?? but thanks for your comment, as you say chance to udate and alter.

    Dave

  • Thats a bit of a bummer Dave sorry to hear it , but I too have had this experience in the distant past, I do hope this gives you an opportunity to make the area a little differently, as you say all good fun ! best wishes Chris............

  • @chrisrussell1 This things are sent to try us Chris, and as you say an opportunity to change part of the layout, always a problem with baseboards though when been ballasted , it is a begger trying to get it smooth again.

    Cheers

    Dave

  • Funny how layouts change in 2 hours after taking 2 months to build, look forward to seeing the new 2012 area 51,cheers Tony.

  • @sheba31 Just glad I found what the problem was Tony, took me 2 days, always something that does not come to mind to start with, and thinking when I had disconected the bus , that it could not be the cause. But it was.

    Cheers

    Dave

  • thats why my model railway is only 108 inches long.

  • @danwarren97 A good idea that, think I should reduce mine, it would be easier to manage.

    Cheers

    Dave

  • Good luck Dave! ;-)

  • @60007SirNigelGresley Cheers Frank ...as they say new day ..new start

    Dave

  • good luck restoring it Dave

  • @pwalpar THANKS WALTER, IT WILL KEEP ME BUSY FOR A WHILE

  • A lesson for us all - thanks for sharing it. Regards

  • @dahliadelux It all makes work, but if we can lern from the mistakes it is worth it (I think??)

    Dave

  • Can't Wait to see it done.

  • @TrainMadJames Thanks, you may have to wait a little while though

    Dave

    DAve

  • @howarth004 Hi Dave. us pensioners have time.Dave

  • @locomotive67 I have had less time to do anything since I retired, always busy , no rest for the wicked??

    DAve

  • oh no that is exactly what as happened to mine and that is why goldsworth is gone, a big pain but our layouts will be running again soon. hopefully

  • @jaannetts16 Hope so Jaike, at least the fault has been found, so can get stuck in again now.

    Dave

  • i think it was just an excuse to get away from xmas shopping with the stigg, ruddy el if im going to have all these problems with dcc ,ill go back to dc , by the way dave my problem with my 66 sound ,was the chip had burnt out,so another £100.00 for a new one,

  • @488scooby My own fault Ste, should have checked that bus line first not last, it teaches something all the time, ...start playing golf , could work out cheaper.?/ Nearly as bad as having to buy a new sound chip ? least that is easaly amended, passed your comment on to the Stigg and she thinks you are right

    Dave

  • much work Dave. The electrical problem is good to keep in mind before making a large model, throughout its design to be simple after repair. But you're used to the great work. that it is better than before.

  • @Branch170 Very much work I am afraid, but it will be a lot simpler wireing from now on, we learn by our mistakes Unfortunatly...

    Dave

  • @howarth004 If I can be useful in some electricity be sure to ask.

  • @Branch170 Thanks for the kind offer, think I have just about sorted though now.

    DAve

  • Hi Dave…I live in dread of this happening to my layout, and as I said on my web site WHEN!!! it does eventualy quit I will lock the garage door and leave the country…..Looking forward to the reincarnation!! of your new layout.

    Sam..

  • @HillsideModelRailway Hi Sam , just glad it was found, what I could not understand was I had diconected the bus from the mains, and diconected all joins between the tracks, but of course under the layout the bus was still conected to each seperate track , so when I was testing eack track individually it was still connected via the bus, did my head in to be honest, but oportunity to change a few things now.

    Dave

  • And theres me thinking I'm having a bad day with the static grass applicator(just needed a new battery).happy modelling.

  • @percomotion One thing Kev , we live and learn (the hard way) trouble is also I used the same colour wires for all the different circuits. O Well !!

    Dave

  • @howarth004 I dont understand wiring thats why I'm not DCC(but I do use four controllers) kept my wiring simple and basic and yes I used the same two colour wires throughout. So Dave what ideas do you have for your layout?.

  • @percomotion Not too sure as yet , but want to incorparate a tunnel again , and maybe put the Town scene up above , have to get all that trackwork sorrted first and as you will know once lifted it is a begger to clean the baseboard and usually I begger up the points when uplifting them
