ok.. i was doing dishes. briefly dropped my phone in a pot of sudsy water... immediately threw it in a bag of rice and blew dry all superficial water. Saw this solution. Vacuumed for 10mins... and she is back in motion.

I should mention that the battery sensor is still pink but the phone sensor is red.

Dropped my one month old Galaxy S2 in the toilet this morning, and after crying for hours and leaving it in rice for most of the day I came across this video. You need to give it a good 15 minutes to half an hour with the hoover, and be thorough with the battery because it's the most important part.

Voila! Mine is now back to normal; possibly even working quicker than before. But I've definitely learned my lesson and I think insurance is much needed.

I just washed my droid and tried this method. IT WORKED! Phone is working properly even though my water damage sensors are marked red now. Give this method a try first if you don't want to deal with the insurance because more than likely water damage WILL NOT be covered. My phone is working fine with no problems. Vacuuming works because it actually sucks the water out and whatever few minerals molecules left from tap water will not be enough to stop connections from working, but saltwater is another thing.

Dipping it in pure alchool would help too, but only after you rinse all the salt off.

My mom dropped her phone in water more than once. She rinsed it in demineralized water and simply let it dry in a warm place, without anything else, and it came back to life.

Next time you drop it in sea water (or any salty stuff):

1- Get demineralized water (lots of it, a gallon) from the drugstore

2- (Remove cover, battery, SIM card, etc).

3- Rinse it by submerging it in demineralized water.

4- Rinse it again, as many times as possible, to get rid of the all the salt and minerals, you don't want any trace of that left in your phone.

5- Do clevonamerica's genius vacuum trick. It should work.

What will corrode/interfere with connections in your phone is the minerals in the water. Sea water is the absolute worse. Salt will corrode about ANYTHING.

What you want is for any minerals to get out of your phone's connections as soon as possible after you drop it in water and to remove those minerals and salt before corrosion happens.

(BTW, this is why rice doesn't always work. It depends on thye amount of minerals in the water).

Glad I found this video. Be careful with the hose though. You can probably suck up some rubber gaskets covering the elevtronics on an iphone 4. I used this vacuum technique along with 91 percent alcohol cleaning and placing in dry rice with silica packets. Waited 2 whole days and phone works like new. I was sceptical at first. So far no phone problems and didn't have to update my phone.
