This car is better than corollas. Nissan sentra is 2.0 31 mpg. Sentra is really well made, but worse than ford fusion mpg. Fusion is really good. Chevy is good, but break system is not and mpg is worst.
I have been driving a 2011 limited for 8 months in Utah. I got 33 mpg for 3 months. Now I get 26-27 mpg. I think most elantra drivers get about 27 mpg. If you consider because of 40mpg, I don't recommend this. I like the leather seats. 180w is enough for sound, but I got a amplifier and a sony sound system. You should be careful of backing. Blind spots are a lot more than other small cars. I used to drive a corolla 2011, nissan sentra 2010, ford fusion 2011, and chevy malibu v6 2010 in New York.
i purchased new 2012 elantra....Happy to be the owner of elantra...but if i am parking the car and leaving and coming back after 30 minutes, then i will not be able to unlock the car by remote, also the clock and radio will reset?......why this happens....i am from middle east...also dust is entering to the car through the corner of rear view mirror....anyone plz giv a reply...........
After doing months upon months of research and weeding through several makes and models of vehicles, I finally came upon a final decision and chose the 2012 (not 2011 like this video shows) Hyundai Elantra (GLS with prefered package). Just bought it a couple of days ago but so far, I'm very happy with it. It has actually surprised and impressed me even though I did all that research and thought I knew everything about the car. You just get a lot more bang for your buck with this one.
Only thing I find annoying is the headlights and taillights they wrap around the front and rear to much its like wheres the fenders and rear quarter panels. The lenses take to much of the body structure.
The Elantra does not get 40MPG highway. Check out that data on the website 'fuelly'. Consumer watchdog has sent a letter to president Obama and to the EPA stating that you car does worse that what the EPA tests reveal, and Chevy Cruze consistently does better than what it's EPA values are. Both the Elantra and Cruze are 33MPG combined).
The Cruze gets an average of 28% better mileage than the Elantra.
Stop lying please. My mother got an Elantra, always in Eco mode, can't get more than 25MPG
I'm still amazed that some people still think Koreans still make cheap low end products. For example Samsung and LG is considered one of the top consumer electronic companies in the world. Korean ship building industry is considered the best in the world and world's tallest building in Dubai and many top 10 tallest buildings in the world are build by Korean engineering companies. Hyundai and Kia definitely have grown into a world class auto. It still have ways to go but I'm impressed.
It's amazing how far this Korean brand has gone in less than 5 years ... and now they have their own identity without being accused of copying from other car companies. Wondering if there will be a hatch / wagon Elantra available since that would be what I'm looking for.
When the "consumer watch dog" of the consumer organization measured the fuel consumption of Hyundai Elantra in response to consumers' complaint, it was before and after an average of 25 MPG.
The organization announced officially, saying, "The real fuel consumption of Elantra has large deviation with catalog fuel consumption."
In quest of fuel consumption re-measurement of Hyundai Elantra, it appealed to EPA, and came out.
I just got my 2012 2 weeks ago! I love it! It has been giving me 29.9 mpg in the city. Haven't had a chance for a road trip yet, but I'm sure it will deliver 40 mpg as promised. The usb is great. Bought a 4 gig flash drive, and loaded all my mp3s on to it. Hours of music, and all controlled from the wheel. I love this car!!!!!
@danjoe79 yes gas mileage is super inflated on this car. check out fuelly . com the average is about 30 if you are getting 40 on the highway the average should be higher
@heroheroic If you get a GLS without anything on it, you won't get fog lights, but you can get a preferred package for the GLS that adds them in. They're also standard on the limited trim
@heroheroic Depends on which model you are talking about. I believe that for the 2012 Elantras, Hyundai started including a Preferred Package option for the GLS (the low-end trim). The Preferred Package has a few select features you will find on the Limited ( the high-end trim), like Hands-Free / Bluetooth, lit vanity mirrors and such. Fog lights is one of these add-ons. For 600$ or so, it's actually worth it than shelling out an additional 2000$ for a Limited.
Yes. the car is good looking but if you planing to buy it then test it during longer rides. I found the front seats uncomfortable for longer trips and the trunk opening is small when you trying to fit bigger items.
Just bought a fully loaded Elantra Limited with Nav just last week. I wont be one of those that tell you it's an absolute must buy and I love it, but I will tell you that it will not disappoint and I actually do love it.
I could go on about how I test drove the civics, sentras, corollas, and even the new Hyundai Veloster, but it does not matter. In the end I picked the Elantra. I get 36mpg combined - that should say enough. If you want power go get a V6 Accord. Drives like a BMW - I would know.
The video's title states: '2012 Hyundai Elantra GLS Review' yet the first thing out of this talking head's mouth is '... and then there's this - the brand new 2011 Hyundai Elantra'.
If you're going to go to the trouble of doing a 'review' on a car, the least you can do is review the right production year of the car - not last year's model.
I've been in my friend's Elantra and wow is it roomy! It's quiet, comfortable, very well equipped, well illuminated inside, good handling, and smooth. I never thought I'd say this, but the Koreans are REALLY doing a great job. Usually the Korean stuff I see are crap (cheap drum sticks, guitars, drums, and mic stands), but this is actually really nice.
I just got to say that I've had an elantra for six years and had barely and mean barely had any problems. It's an awesome car. I love hyundais they are very efficient.
@Karime18 Yes, you're right. I've had an elantra 2003 for two years, and I bought it used with 82,105 miles on it. And I use it a lot; I've made long trips on it, last time i did one, it was 600 miles on one day, here in centro america and I have never have any problem. Not even a single one, and the engine is very strong, fast and all the way a soft ride. I even use korean tires: hankook, which are very good indeed. I love my hyundai and I'm not changing it for any other expensive brand.
@makeupkatie95 Thanks for the reply. Going to a car show tomorrow and the Elantra is a model that will be available to test drive - can't wait. Continue enjoying your amazing car and stay safe on those rodes.
I went a Hyunda drive event today. It was a road course setup in a parking lot. No Genesis coupes, sedans or Sonata Turbos. Everything else thought. The Elatntra was my favourite. Now Hyundai how about a 1.6L Turbo--185hp witha DCT. Sold
I thought the Elantra looked pretty hideous in photos. But when I actually saw one in person I was surprised. It looked bloody beautiful. Better looking than any other car in its class.
No spare tire though. All they give you is a can of fix a flat and a piece of crap plastic air compressor. How about giving you run flats if you're not going to supply a spare tire?
@Ozymandius666 Yes, I know that you use Litres, I'm saying the rating provided for 58mpg is using the imperial gallon as the 'g', which is smaller than the us gallon. when the math is done, the converted mileages are approximately the same. The engineering of the vehicles is identical.
I always had american cars i have a 2000 ford focus and it is great and runs great.I kept my focus and just bought a 2012 Hyundia elantra and this blows out any other car in its class. It has alot of leg room and is pretty fast, drove a 2012 focus and this car will never come close to a Hyundia elantra. This is by far the best car i have ever bought if i had more money i would buy my wife one in a heart beat.
My 2005 XRS Corolla gets 37 MPG on the highway, and probably a bit better once I take a road-trip using non-ethanol fuel (which there is a gas station close to my home that offers not only ethanol-free, but also 92 octane).
As for this car, I like it a lot better than the new Civics.
Seems great and just got one like in this video, silver GLS, sunroof etc. Very comparable to high line Camry (owned those prior), but saving thousands and probably better warranty and 5 yr. road assistance deal etc.
These do look nice but I bet it does sit really low and the visibility could be an issue. I'm definitely going to test drive one of these..I like my '07 Focus but I'm ready for something new.
I wanted to buy the elantra, but what they don't tell you is that it sits so low, and has poor visability looking down in the front. My wife's line of vision was about 15 feet in front of her. Not safe at all.
My husband works for Herz Rent A Car at LAX airport. Ever since this particular Elantra came out its being rented like hot cakes. They have a fleet of about two hundred Elantra's and as soon are people return them and they are washed they are back on the road being rented by someone else. I drove one and its an awesome car for less then $20K. MPG's are constantly in the 30's, roomy and quiet interior, look's decent and they all come with a 100K mile/10 year warranty. Go Hyundai!
I'd prefer to have the Chevy Cruze, it just fits my tastes better. I'm not saying the Elantra is a bad car. I think it's impressive how far Hyundai/Kia has come in just 5 years.
@StuinthaHouse The Cruze is a solid car, but already starting to lag a bit. It's a nicer ride than most. Not sporty, but more comfortable. It feels more like a mid-size sedan than a compact, which I guess is exactly what GM wanted to do.
@StuinthaHouse i like the chevy cruze too but its actually just a rebadge daewoo lacetti, makes you question the reliability on daewoo first as they didnt make it big in the US back in the 90's but are actually big in china today. the cruze has already had a few recalls, something about the steering wheel popping off at high speeds.
some people said the design is polarizing. but for me it looks good over all. the good application of the fluidic lines is amazing. in some angles it looks mean and mad in some angles it looks happy and just a fun cruiser
@BigCivic those guys are those people who hate the development of kia/hyundai. they belittle the efforts that hyundai/kia has been making, they forgot that honda, toyota and all others started small and rise slowly right? its just the matter of time folks hyundai/kia will prove you wrong.
This car is better than corollas. Nissan sentra is 2.0 31 mpg. Sentra is really well made, but worse than ford fusion mpg. Fusion is really good. Chevy is good, but break system is not and mpg is worst.

Apologies, backwardsed that. The imperial gallon is larger, granting the higher perceived mileage. 1 Imperial gallon = 1.20095042 US gallons .

I've only had my 2012 for less than a week and I'm totally in love with it.
MetallicOpeth 7 months ago
@Dandelion7777777777 I'm pretty sure it's the 2012. It's a GLS model yet it has fog ights. That's something new on the 2012

Go Hyundai!

Looking good Hyundai.

I'd prefer to have the Chevy Cruze, it just fits my tastes better. I'm not saying the Elantra is a bad car. I think it's impressive how far Hyundai/Kia has come in just 5 years.
StuinthaHouse 8 months ago
@StuinthaHouse The Cruze is a solid car, but already starting to lag a bit. It's a nicer ride than most. Not sporty, but more comfortable. It feels more like a mid-size sedan than a compact, which I guess is exactly what GM wanted to do.
BigCivic 8 months ago
@StuinthaHouse i like the chevy cruze too but its actually just a rebadge daewoo lacetti, makes you question the reliability on daewoo first as they didnt make it big in the US back in the 90's but are actually big in china today. the cruze has already had a few recalls, something about the steering wheel popping off at high speeds.
matrixloader 8 months ago
@matrixloader Yes, a frightening, yet slightly humerous, recall.

some people said the design is polarizing. but for me it looks good over all. the good application of the fluidic lines is amazing. in some angles it looks mean and mad in some angles it looks happy and just a fun cruiser
crimsoninred 8 months ago
@crimsoninred Totally agree. No idea how anyone could think it's ugly.
BigCivic 8 months ago
@BigCivic those guys are those people who hate the development of kia/hyundai. they belittle the efforts that hyundai/kia has been making, they forgot that honda, toyota and all others started small and rise slowly right? its just the matter of time folks hyundai/kia will prove you wrong.
crimsoninred 8 months ago
Hyundai's making a nice new image for itself. Love these videos, great review and editing.
