Good medicine but tough to swallow, especially deescalation. One thought about just giving the mugger your wallet - this could possibly bolster the bad guy's confidence almost guaranteeing there will be another victim.
Good advice, reinforcing the notion that lethal force is last resort only.
Depending on the situation, it may be better to give a mugger what he wants unless the mugger presents details in the conflict suggesting that your life is in jeopardy, such as if the mugger is forcing you to go to a secluded location. It's a matter of judgment.
Unfortunately, ego can get in the way of wisdom or, to put it in a crude context, a man can get into trouble when he thinks with his balls more than his brain.
I should make it clear my disagreement with a particular statement is, quite possibly, a misunderstanding of intent. In fact, the advice on the XS Big Dot sights was so good, that after I got mine, I convinced my chief to purchase them for the rest of the department come the new budget year. If my schedule ever permits it I would love to train in Tennesse with Mr. Yeager and his training cadre. Just a disagreement on a minor point...but that's why Baskin Robbins has so many flavors! RESPECT!
This clip makes me think of Ayoob's advice concearning keeping $10 (or so) wrapped around a book of matches to toss to some undesireables in lieu of getting into a fight with them. "Sorry I offended you. Here's ten bucks, get yourselves a beer."
I think you just sold some videos...hell I've been meaning to buy them anyway. You were right about the XS sights I put on my 17,19,and 26. I will also be at the next tactical response pistol/carbine/medic course that comes my way. Now, I'm just gonna shut up and watch the videos. If i meet you someday we can debate shit all the way to the moon and find out we agree on a whole lot. thanks
I respect your advice from a legal standpoint..if for no other reason than it's advice NECESSARY for you to give as the operator of an entity that could be potentially held financially liable for less cautious advice. At the same time an armed man committing robbery is an armed threat, and since reading his mind is beyond my ability I have to read the fact that he's armed and threatening me as the deciding factor. The only control I have over his actions is a bullet in the apricot.
Once again I need to remind you that you are only seeing a small piece of the video. There is much more to it than this clip. Look at my other videos...there is NO shortage of shooting.
The video ignores nothing. You are seeing a small piece of the entire program. While no video can ever answer every question my points are still valid within the context of the discussion.
Ignores the other possibility- how do you know if the person isn't going to shoot you anyway, it happens too often these days? And if you have children, do you also risk their lives too?
Anything you own is just stuff. Stuff can be replaced. Your life or the life of someone else cannot. Nice video. A breath of fresh air after a lot of the macho posturing normally associated with this field. I agree with another poster, this seems like the type of thing we learn in the martial arts... force is to be used as a last resort to protect lives, not stuff.
Sounds like a great addition to the Force on Force class. Was a great learning experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is a CCW person
The last points you made are pretty interesting. It could be egotism or it could be people just not wanting to give up their stuff to some crackhead looking to score a hit. It is a double edged blade though, yeah it sucks to get robbed but legal fees suck worse. But if you hand your wallet and theirs some important info in there (soc security, etc) then you probably had your identity stolen too! Just keep from the bad parts (should be obvious to everyone packing) and you'll be fine.
I respect where you are coming from and have a great respect for teachings of yours thus far, however I disagree with letting someone take from what is rightfully your own. The idea of the victim fighting back is the NO.1 biggest deterrent, possibly over time slowly changing the actual mentality behind the initial confrontation.
I think my point is sound, however, no life should be connected to any monetary value and is to be held in total regard. That is what makes us human. Thanks again for informing others through your experience. Always look forward to the ever broadening of my personal arsenal. Especially when its upstairs. Weapons are just tools, your mind is a weapon.
I would not kill over my wallet either. But in this day, how can you be sure they will stop with taking your wallet? Seems to me, many will take the wallet, and then kill you for the "fun" of it.
Depends on the criminal. Most robbers won't do anything other than what it takes to get food for themselves that week. Killing wouldn't help most of the time. I've heard the "throw over the shoulder" method recommended a lot. Throw your wallet behind the crook (if you can). If he goes after it, you run the other way. If he keeps coming towards you, get ready for a fight. But don't take my word on it.
I am unsure where you get your vast knowledge of criminals but they aren't robbing and stealing for food. They are out there doing evil things for drugs.
