That's correct. Spelling it "Kefka" is an Americanization. But then again, so is "Aeris" (instead of "Aerith").

Either way, I still think Kefka is such a better villain that Sephiroth. Just watch some Dissidia fights between them and see how much Kefka owns Sephiroth! XD
