wasup player, i got the software from you, debranded and everything worked fine, thanks a lot. i got one issue thoug, i'm trying to use a tesco sim on it and it's showing that it needs unlocking, and i've tried getting it unlocked, they can't do it.

shouldn't the debranding taken care of that, i see on your vid it does. please help coz i'm stuck with the phone in my palm and a simcard in my pocket.

Good video. I would do this, but I would lose my free sat nav through Orange. At least I think I would!

Shame cos the phone has the potential to be great. It takes rubbish photos at present and the sound on vids is terrible.

you dont lose your orange maps if you debrand it, all you have to do is download the orange maps apps to your phone again, i belive when i did this on mine all i had to do was text 'orangemaps' to 247, but, go on the orange website and itll tell you how to redownload it, and it will still work like it did on your contrract tarrif, the only difference is that it wont be on your widget menu, but you will find it in your applications foilder

Thanks mate. That's the most helpful comment I think I've ever received in You Tube. Now that I know that I can retain the sat nav (which is a life saver when you're lost) I'll go for it and debrand it.

Orange have put so much crap on it, but it has the potential to be a great phone.

Also that one page is half fileld with their options and the shake control is not fully used...

after much much muchhhhhhhhh hesistance as I as cautious about this and didn't want my new phone to break, this works flawlessly...and it even kept my orange maps as well! which is fantastic. i'm about to try the samsung updater now that came on disk and see if that works, but top work mate

I cannot recommend this enough. I got my i8910 through Orange and was gutted with how slow it was and how bad the touch screen response was. I decided to flash it using this product and it's like having a new phone, it is sooooo much quicker, the touch screen response is much improved meaning texting is a lot more accurate and you get the sweet widgets for Facebook and Youtube. How Orange can get away with supplying this phone with such bad software is beyond me. Flash it and see!

Because it can brick the phone if not correctly updated and because it is always the same version 1.47 it is not necessary to flash it!

Yes, it is the same deal as the walkthrough in the video.

Flashing the firmware may remove everything on your device, I suggest you do a backup before attempting it & restore from the backup once it is done.

debranding doesnt do it, but after debranding, you should b able to upgrade your firmware to the latest version via Samsung PC Studio 7.

I can confirm in the latest firmware, they have indeed replaced the Audio Codec. There has been much talk about the poor quality of the Audio Codec used, Samsung have now addressed this and replaced it with another, increasing the Audio quality.

Hi,

Yes it works fine with VM WARE, so long as you have a USB 2.0 port and you have installed the drivers ok.

Nay you should be fine, depending what firmware it comes with you might have to reflash it, to get access to the samsung updates quicker thats all.

The firmware update i have at the moment is the last one you will need as once you update with this firmware it allows you to use the samsung official updater software.

Once debranded you wont see any sign of orange.

If you mean the small text in the top left that shows what ever network sim card you are using. If its unlocked and you put a T-Mobile sim card in, then it will say T-Mobile.

If its usb 1.0 what will happen is it will boot up with a PC Error Logo, you can still get in to the flash loader so dont worry about that. You just need to then get a 2.0 usb port to get the flash to work correct.

If you flash with the USB 1.0 port you cant use the phone until you reflash it again with 2.0

How does flashing the phone effect your orange contract? E.g. Will you still be on the same contract with orange with all the benefits that you pay for?

E.G. If you get free orange maps - which i find a useful tool, Or if you get free orange internet access will you lose this? Is there a way to keep this?

This shouldnt effecrt your contact at all. I personaly dont use the orange maps, never did get it to work. However you are able to download the app again and install it on your phone and carry on using the service and know others have chosen to do this.

I'm running google maps and Garmin on mine.

Debranding is a term which means to replace the current firmware; which in this case is Oranges

Orange are well know for changing mobiles firmware/software for there own, this means there own apps/tools and even removal of others which you would normaly get.

By debranding you return the phone to how it should be.

at a guess you are trying this on VISTA? an inf files will only install on XP. This is covered in the first part of the video. If you get your hands on an xp machine you will be fine

Yes it did on mine as I had a USB1.0 & it failed utterly.

When it tries to reboot you get a picture of a an exclamation mark flanked by a phone & a computer. That basically means its fooked until you get it flashed viaUSB2.0.

You can still get the blue screen though by holding down the 3 buttons & flash again.

ALSO!

You have to make sure that you are charged up as well at least 3 bars.

If not you will DEFINITELY have a shiny black brick!!

so you took your usb out whilst flashing?! i'm afraid NICHOLASSA1 is right, you can try flashing the phone again(this time letting it finish.) if THAT doesnt work then yes, you are left with a very expensive piece of plastic, and since flashing and debranding voids the warranty theres not a lot you can do with it.

But before you start fretting try flashing it again.

Everyting was going ok with the flashing until I forgot (I think to take out the USB cable).

I have a picture on my screen of a phone on the right exclamation mark in the middle & a commuter screen on the right.

I ran it on XP.

But my computer is very old & it took ages to do.

I have Samsung PC studios.

It did binary ok, downloaded ok & flashed ok but rebooting failed on the phone even though it said on pc symbian download complete.

I can still get the blue screen by holding the 3 buttons down.

I will try it on another faster pc & with USB2.0 as well.

I will let you know.

Or else it is to Carphone Warehouse Express repairs.

This is a common error caused to flashing on a 1.0 USB... Once you try it on USB 2.0 it will be fine.

I did get the problem sorted the issue was that if you use the debrand software you must FIRST ensure that the Samsung PC software is loaded and only AFTER that put on the debrand software and run it.

it removes the custom firmware put on the phone by orange, ie the orange shortcut bar, orange custom menu icons and startup and shutdown images e.t.c

debranding basically puts on the software originally put on by the manufacture without any branding on it

You'll need Windows XP but I'm running Windows 7 and have installed the 'Windows Virtual PC' which runs 'Windows Virtual XP'.

It opens a new window, on your desktop, exactly like an XP desktop.
