  • Hey man im not sure if you will respond because this vid is kind of old but i have a question for you or anyone else that can answer it. I get how to mix the music but how to these groups like tiesto, daft punk, wolfgang, bloody beetroots actually make the sounds they have in their songs?

  • @imnotedward There are many softwares used to do that. Sound studio is one of them. I actually use a keyboard plugged to my computer to play notes using the effects given by Sound Studio.

  • thankz j. nice tutorial it help a lot

  • Those Kams look almost identical to the Citronic PD-45s..

  • hey thanks for this vid. im a beginner in djing and i really dont know what im doing. but this vid helped quite a bit. do you have actual lessons anywhere as im a brit as well. or do you know of anywhere in the northwest that i can get lessons?

  • Fantastic, liked so much >:D

Nic job, thanks for the tuto...

  • Your comments at the end are right on. I personally taught myself, never watched anyone, cause i was afraid of having their style instead of my own. And decided to watch a dj tutorial video today for the first time. came across yours. I actually mix backwards from the way you do and most other djs.

ANd agree with you totally about letting the records tell you how to mix them. People shouldnt worry how others do it, just play them and feel the flow and be creative. Art is creating, not copying

  • jesus that was awesome, such an inspiration!! i'm a beginner in dj-ing, but i get all the stuff you're saying! havent got my own equipment yet, but as im gettin technics, i started to wonder what kind of mixer i should get, any tips?

  • bloody hell you are good. Can't stop watching and learning from your videos!

  • TOUGH TITTIES!!! lmao

thomas bangalter is a total bamf.

  • I like your style of teaching :-)

    great vid J!

  • Hey Johnathan, great vid as always! Also, I was wondering if that is the Thomas Bangalter from Daft Punk that is on your right deck?

  • Yes, it is. Great vid, as usual!!

  • yes, the same chap. j

  • hey my man you got good voice good attitude ....anyway Im a local l.a. dj who is also in the t.v. business......you should come out here and more than likely you can have a t.v. show......

  • Damn how many sets of decks you got i only watched 3 of your videos so far an you got 2 differnet sets in them lol.

  • great mix j!

by the way, haven't you got 3 camera's? how about putting some on tripods and let them record simultanious? of course you'll have to edit the video afterwards but hey you've done 1700+ vids i think you know how it works :-) keep up the good work!

  • what i do with trance music is

drop bass out of 1 for a bar of 4 then on the 1 beat of the 2nd bar on deck 2 i will have a beat cued with just the bass on the eq..... drop it in 1 beat miss 2 1 beat miss 2 then speed up the drop in untill u are droping a beat in every beat if that makes sence... the drop bass in on deck 1 again and x it over... makes the sound bild up better works well with drink just before a brake down....

  • thanks mate,I like the track 2...

  • j that mix was the dogs rocks espec with no headfones!! sick

  • thanks for the info!!! j

  • great great great as always!!!!

  • its gud dat u learnin people but u av 2 av the 1210s dnt u fink then avin the kams the got b the lowest decks u can get .

  • to be honest the kam ddx5000 are quite good! with more features , but i stil like the sl1200!! j

  • ncie one, i wish to be a professional DJ...God bless u 4 this vids!

  • love your videos. They are very amusing and you know what you're talking about. I like the end cause it's so true. It all comes down to using your own mixing techniques. Don't try to just copy others. Do what your ear enjoys

  • every*

  • nicely done john man thanks for these vids and eery1 remember practice and n_joy

  • I volunteer as camera man J :) I still use all your stuff for my mixes.... and again I have started to teach my mate to mix..... after the first 5 hours he could do basic mixes and now he is playing around with all the other buttons :) all due to your work here on youtube m8! Thx for everything and keep it coming! I hope you've seen my latest mix on my channel

  • Thanks man i understand it now it will make my mixes a whole lot better keep up the good work

  • messing with the EG? you mean EQ?

  • I knew I'd been scratching my mum wrong...

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL nice one

  • Exxcelent Mixing :-) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • grazieeeeeee

  • Thanks Man

  • nice mix J :)

  • nice pool table

  • really helpful..totally enjoy it =)

  • That tune 'keep pushing' seems to be very good. Where I could dowload it from?

Maybe someone could post a link?

  • Great video. This is a very useful video. Sometimes I see people messing around with the eq frequently and wonder what they are doing but don't hear any difference in the mix. Thanks for the video. A point I would like to make though is also it depends on the mixer. Some have a lot of distortion.

  • Yay, Roulé! You've got good taste, Jonathan :3

The track is Colossus, for anyone who is wondering. Absolute Frenchy banger of a track.

  • The best topic to talk about..

    Grazie Jonathan!!

  • Thanks, but as a beginner I still have trouble with that stuff (im not that used to this).

  • You'll get there. All you got to do is practice,pratice.practice.

I had alot of trouble at first as well.

  • sometimes i wish you would use words like "break" instead of "nacker". people with limited skill in english might get confused. ;)

  • when you play with the LOW MID HIGH you can actually hear the song with "more" knob into it dominate the one with "less". its quite fun and u can practice alot with this. i use this technique to fade to the next song..

  • what are those 2 knobs neer the light on the kam's!

  • haha a master of your craft sir, good show ha, for definitely a good mix. i will apply that as i go thanks.

  • finally, a vid that isnt about lighting :P haha jkjkjk

  • that's what i do but then again, i find it only useful for intros and outros but not really the mix itself.

I tend to use effects during the mix.

    But, that is only me...

  • Nah, i do the exact same thing! i think it must be a natural thing for us bedroom dj's

  • totally

  • I run sound all the time, I know where you are coming from when you say the tune will tell you.

  • I think i we found "FRANKIE WILDE" (Joking).

    Brilliant Video once again.

  • hahaha frankie wilde ftw!

  • very nice, i really needed this.

    thanks bro.

  • Deadly advice! Thanks again.

  • very nice man

    explained allot to me!

    great help

  • the mix was tight! and thanks for the inspiring tutorial

  • elaskins what you do is great and thanks. but I think you need to rate your vids novice compitent ..pro etc. some vids are not relevent to some and more relevent to others. hope you get my point and not negative. thanks

  • Ellaskins you are so helpful and inspiring thank you.

  • What you said at the end is so true.

  • nicely done in the end!!

    but a bit sketchy vid

    anyway

    big up ellaskins

    "practice and enjoy"

  • Agree, but remember this is P U N K!!!! TV, you want clear and cut stuff go watch that old school stuff,, lol
