I remember my dad playing the entire "At Peace.." album all the time. This is one of his favorites from the album. Brings back memories. Thanks for posting.
I had so forgotten about that song! Takes me back to college, listening to Frankie Crocker on WBLS in New York, when my only worry was what would I wear on Saturday night!
Have to agree...this is a great dance song. To me it's got the right combination of musical sound and lyrics. Very romantic-it is in my favs now. So makes me want to go out and dance like I used to way back. We were young, and pretty in a way that only youth can give you. It brings on a smile and gratitude for the times I've had <3
I'm lovin this song! I don't really remember it from back in the day. They really remind me of the Emotions on this song and I've never compared the Jones girls and the Emotions before because they both had their own sound and style that set them apart from each other but this actually sounds like an emotions song to me.
This 1980 R&B dance track is another favorite of many from these beautiful, and talented sisters, the groove is as smooth as silk, and it's funky also. This one was popular with the ladies at the rink and the parties back in the day, when this was put on the turntable, they grabbed you and pulled you on the floor, lol, good memories, fantastic 80's R&B from an equally fantastic R&B singing group, R.I.P. Valorie Denise Jones (1956 - 2001)
@3811iberis I am going to cry if I continue to listen to this song! The Jones Girls were and are still my favorite group from my growing up years! you could hear them backing up so many vocalists and then they finally came out on their own with their own body of work and they killed every song! These women brings so many memories for me! Boyfriends, break ups! RIP Valorie my sister! I was so hurt to hear you had passed! Now you are singing with the angels in heaven where you belong!
@debgirl12000 - Aww', don't cry sweetheart, I understand the sentimental wave of emotion you felt hearing this R&B classic, songs like these take us back to times that we cherish, when we first connected with it, it's an emotional attachment that will never leave us, especially the special times that we long to return to. That's what music like this does, it helps us relive simpler, sweeter times in life, and of course, the not so good times also, hold on to as many good memories as you can...
Ahahaha Thats an awesome Conspiracy, its true tho, its like the media would rather play 1 song 100's of times a day whether it be on the radio, or TV, Something is wrong with the Media
I agree! I know that, by listening to the radio we listened to our parents oldies, so now this is our "oldies" but they dont play it or have an okdies station in NY! Miss them late 70's to early nineties classics!
I never compared them to the Emotions. I liked them both but the Emotions had been around much longer. I'm from Chi-Town and the Emotions rocked us from middle school thru high school (Harlan High) on the south side of Chicago. They lasted longer than the Jones Girls....but they are both great girl groups and deserve their places in the spotlight!
This song takes me back a ways to the time my hood was clearly divided into 2 rivals camps, fans of the Jones Girls and fans of The Emotions. It was a healthy and innocent rivalry.
I remember rather well that these were some fine gals back then. I'm sure the remaining members are still equally striking.
the first time I saw these ladies perform was 1980 I went to a taping of deny terio dance fever. I heard the song on the radio but I didn't know who the artist was. when those ladies started to sing my friends and I had the entire audience rockin. those were the days.
This was a fantastic tune to play and sing! I grew up in Detroit...and remember when these girls broke out of Central High and captivated the R&B world with their sound. They were fabulous in my childhood and they are STILL great! Gamble and Huff were truly brilliant men to put them in the Philly International roster. They had a great run and we just don't see the likes of them today...everything is photogenic and shallow now.Never mind how you sound, you have to look whorish to get ahead.Sad...
Classic chooon from the Jones girls. They certainly don't make them like this any more. Music like this just brings a smile to my face and conjures up so many memories.
This was and is a great song to hustle to! It's too bad that club music isnt like this anymore When it was about dancing and having a good time, not ass shakin and gun shots!
And ... The Jones Hirls have not been matched YET - like The Emotions, these divas are real singers and their trademark harmonies stand on their own today ... and always will.
Thank you sooo much for posting this joint..you have no idea what memories this Jones Girls joint brings back..i think i was a teenager and had a big crush on this one particular girl in the hood..all the basement parties back then..this was when you danced your ass off..and dreamed of being on Soul Train..to show off ya stuff
I remember this song from my preadolescence in Nairobi (circa 1980), but have neither stumbled upon it since, nor upon anyone who was similarly into it...
The copy I had sounded somewhat funkier as it had been slightly slowed down and had its rhythm and bass enhanced...
