Oh HELLS yes. Sure he's a little older than in the book but this depiction is fine by me. He looks a lot like some of the engravings of him in old editions.
so this part HAS been filmed nearly exact like in the book! I 've often thought it was impossible to film this branding thing.
and actually, this is the first Jean Valjean I have seen who realy has white hear. This is so like the book. Very good job! Less films are so close to the fictie they are showing. If the same can be said of the ending... must be hard. Also the casting for the role of Marius was a good thing. This man looks very good, just as Marius is always described.
What happened to Javert?! This was one of his shining moments -- it says in the book itself how calm he is, and pleased with himself! why, it even says "he sat in a lordly way"!
Why did they cut all this out so he could quickly cry out his lines and be off? Is it that Valjean is being treated favourably yet again? Is this another one of the movies where Javert is seen as an individual evil?
I didn't even know they made a dubbed version of this version !!
Very strange for me to hear all of them speaking in english for the first time ! Especially Bourvil who used to have a very different voice compared to his dubbed one.
Would you mind uploading the whole thing? This is one of the only films that features Eponine and I really want to see the whole thing. Great vid! (Too bad for the bad English dubbing though.)
Gabin IS Valjean. And Bourvil is the great Thénardier.
But I don't like Javert in this version. He's not tall and not slim enough, and he has no "chilly aura". Also, he's gray and mediocre. Not the tragic hero we love.
But the movie is good. At last, accurate, it has all the Amis (could somebody upload some barricade scenes), but Enjolras is dark-haired and absolutely not an angelically beautiful boy...
Yeah, it's me watching again, I wanted another look at Monty. This is seriously the only video on youtube with him in it (well, with his name on it, anyway). At least we got to see him whip out his knife. ^^ I think the guy's starting to grow on me. Even the anime version too, who is, admitedly, scary as hell in appearance.
Gabin-JV pwns with his table throwing. =D Oh yeah, and Marius is not a total dolt this time. Happy day.
I've seen this version, and I like that it's pretty faithful. I don't really like the chubby actor playing Javert. He just barely touches his lovable snarky self in this scene, but at least there's a little bit of it. I recommend taking a look at the anime Les Miserables: Shoujo Cosette. It takes some liberties too (especially concerning Cosette's time with the Thenardiers - she makes friends with Gavroche), but on the whole it is quite faithful. And there's a good deal more Monty in it. ^_^
I know! It's all very exciting. I spent half the movie wide-eyed with my nose against the screen, hardly daring to believe that they had included so many details...
It's from the 1957 movie starring Jean Gabin. I got it off eBay for less than $5 very recently, and I've seen several other cheap copies going as well. It's the most faithful LM adaptation I've seen, and I'd recommend it to anyone. It's kinda cheesy, and makes up a little, but it still all around rocks. But yeah, were you asking if I have other clips of Monty or if I have other clips from this movie?
LOL they translated "Arc de triomphe" into English

The actor who plays Valjean is the greatest French actor ever: Jean Gabin! Can't believed it's dubbed!

I'm in the musical of Les Miserables and just got cast for Montparnasse and wanna know what he does in the musical- can anyone help me out?
evann300 2 years ago
Well, he basically says "Go home, 'Ponine, go home, you're in the way." Extra points if you continuously try to feel up Eponine.

Hey me too! It's a little awkward because I'm a girl and... yeah...
corntastic2cornness 2 years ago
of course, first of all he speaks french, and not english... :-)

@evann300 well, if the attack on rue plummet has it's intro, then you have a short conversation with Éponine before the traditional rue plummet

@evann300 never mind, i looked at your upload date, and i don't think that was helpful

This version is the closest to the book of any I've yet found. And Marius is certainly the best, though I don't much care for the Jean Valjean.

I kinda like Jean Gabin. The problem with his performance is the really crappy English dub.
Which is why I'd probably sell my soul for a region one DVD of that film in the original French.
