I believe this is where they filmed those Rockpalast concerts in Germany somewhere. Quite a few shows were filmed in the early '80's there and it looks like the same venue with the hill. Other shows recorded there were Stevie Ray Vaughn, U2, Thin Lizzy, REO, and some others. Saw the Outlaws in June of '79 with Boston and Van Halen in Raleigh,NC at UNC Campus stadium w/ Outlaws and Van Halen kicking the most ass..
I have signed pictures I took of all of them, also signed album covers (even by the photographer who took the cover) Was back at the tour bus with them, they were all pretty cool. Lots of FUN!
Saw Skynyrd and Outlaws together in El Paso in mid 70's. Outlaws did one encore and didn't play GGHT. The crowd was pissed. Skynyrd did two encores and didn't play Free Bird. Crowd was about to start a riot when both bands came out together and did 25 minute medally of Green Grass and High Tides and Free Bird. Have chills now just thinking about it. Don't you wish you would have been there.
i seen them play on the new river in radford virginia river jam one of my top 10 all time favroites bands ever long live southern rock taliked to the band after the show one of the coolest bands
Saw them at the height of their powers, 1976 (SF winterland with Lynyrd Skynyrd) and 77 with Marshall Tucker Band at the concord pavilion. A great band. The bass player is wearing those big freaky 80s glasses--how very un-southern rock of him!
The greatest rock band ever! To all of you who say them live you know what I mean!! Billy and Hughie were so awesome together, The Guitar Army will always live on!
Skynyrd, The Outlaws, Marshall Tucker Band, 38 Special, etc. -- brothers of southernhood is what I call it. Those wild eye southern boys have this big very close knit family/friends circle ... an unbreakable bond with no rivalry, but more like a support system! Somewhere along the line they all know each other somehow. This one knew that one, grew up with this one or that
Yeah, I'm from Orlando and all the Southern Rock Bands gave me a belief system, their experiences performed gave me ideas of what its all about. American by birth, Southern by the Grace of God.
This one knew that one, grew up with this one or that one, went to school with or was a friend of a friend who did, and I think it is terrific.
There will never EVER Be another Billy, and Hughie..Its Crazy all of the Greatest Southern Rock bands were plagued by the early deaths of their most gifted Guitarists. I agree with Beachie 321 below me, Ladies and Gentlemen..won't you welcome the FLORIDA GUITAR ARMY the OUTLAWS
this was the hey days for me-this song still pulls something in me-i seen a lot of bands-i seen the music change, but you can still go to a party and jam this song and people will wach you play-it turns heads-peace
looking at the people watching the concert, I just think, what are they doing. But then I come to the conclusion that I would probably be doing the same.
i mean, this song is just amazing, and is just one of the best pieces of music, but this performance just isnt that good....if only it was live id feel it better, but still pretty damn good...
I gotta weigh in and agree that GG&HT has better guitar parts than freebird. GG&HT is a masterpiece containing amazing guitar solos and funky rhythm bits. The solo that starts off approx 2:50 in this version starts it for me. I can listen to this song repeated over and over....and over! My roomate in college used to play this album and turned me on to the Outlaws. He also exposed me to Johnny Winter. Rock on!
You simply cannot compare Skynyrd with the Outlaws. Why do ppl always feel the need to compare bands and songs? Why not just enjoy them? The reason a musician STARTS playing is for pure enjoyment !! Usually. I hate when ppl compare FreeBird to GG&HT because they are two completly different songs from two great but completly different bands. Just enjoy the fact that we have all these fuckin awesome Southern Rock bands to listen to KEEP IT ALIVE WHITE PPL...!!!!!!!!!

This song is unreal. Never can be done by anybody except this Lineup right here.
By the way, dont compare Freebird to GG&HT, Two WAY different songs.
Both are amazing.
These solo's are beautiful.
Drummer & Bassist are working their ass off too.
Just an all around amazing band.
