Christopher Nolan with Halo? This doesn't look like what think he would do if he handled Halo...More like what Steven Spielberg would do, if the rumors are true...When I think Christopher Nolan. I think "The Dark Knight" and "Inception". This trailer doesn't cut it. Good job on the trailer, though...
Nvm ps I'm making a series called The Fall Of Reach need voice auditions for the following noble six already is taken so here's the list noble 1 noble 2 noble 3 and 4 along and 5 and the old noble 6. And marine voices will be from the game. Covenant side arbiter (the one that's watchs noble 6 die) and that's all.
Kind of an update on my thoughts for the HALO films. How many should there be. NINE. You heard me, nine.
Because if you look at it in context. The original game trilogy is in of itself a final act, the end of the war. And Reach would be like the end of the Second Act, the war at its most intense and despairing period.
And I said we need to begin at Harvest to witness First Contact. Human reaction alone is worth it's own trilogy, including messups with Cole Protocol and the Insurrectionists.
Not sure about the choice of theme though. The slow segments could be retained. But the hard-hitting parts could be replaced with the one from Combat Evolved.
I'm glad you asked! There was a series of live action Halo trailers made for Halo 3, directed by Neil Blombkamp (the same guy who made District 9). A lot of the others are from the excellent CGI cut-scenes for Halo Wars. Look up 'Halo Landfall' if you want to see the completely live action commercial. Its well worth it :)
Well they would need to do some adjusting because not everything in book form works into a movie, but on the plus side sticking to one production time would avoid the style inconsistencies between Fall of Reach and the Flood. Ugh, I just shuddered the thought of live action CGI with the Flood.
Yes and yes (though in my opinion, Dark Knight was very overrated). It's a vdieo game not a comic. As much as we'd like, it will never be taken seriously. It's a historical fact. While these days people see comic books as literature and therefore worthy of true attempts at good (Wolverine excluded) film making, video games seem to be viewed by and large as mindless entertainment. Unfortunately as a result we'll always see the likes of Uwe Boll, or Resident Evil
Why was the Dark Knight 'overrated'? It wasn't nominated for an Oscar like that vacuous Avatar thing.
It doesn't matter if people don't or didn't. People didn't take FILMMAKING seriously in a time before, and they didn't take comics seriously in a time before that.
To be honest I'm interested in changing the industry if I can.
If the people in power aren't doing their jobs now they the regular people should 'revolt'.
@bloodrunsclear Like I said, my opinion, I just enjoyed Begins more. Why even bother bringing up Avatar? Intelligent movie goers already know it was a pile of crap. Unfortunately, we're the minority.
That's good attitude to have man. Don't think for a second that I'm trying to dissuade your ambition. I couldn't agree with you more actualy. I'd love to see a worthwhile video game movie. I'm just saying that it would more than likely not be what everyone would hope.
@bloodrunsclear i thought it was from the halo 3 soundtrack. what track did you use though? i cant remember which one it was but it sound soo familiar!
You should make updated ones for all your trailers ( this is also on another video) because if i were you i would also use avatar and other space movies
movies they should make: Halo movie Resistance movie Fallout 3 movie (the Road warrior, you could say, but nah...) Call of Duty movie Spyro movie Red Dead redemption Lost planet Assassin's creed Destroy all humans yeaaaah...
@McChang117 Cause they only made landfall. We Are ODST & all the 'Believe' shorts were Rupert Sanders' work. Far superior to anything PJ & Co. put out.
LOTR was all well and good, but I have 2 questions - What good film has he made since? and District 9 was excellent, but Blomkamp's style is gritty and real and lack Sanders' polish. It doesn't suit Halo.
By all the factors you pointed out, HALO has the potential to being even an ultimate example of being called "Humanity's War."
I am already thinking that they could even do a trilogy or two of the 27 year Great War that happens between first contact on Harvest and the final battle Reach before we even get to the Game Triliogy. All about humans at the height of their power realizing they aren't alone in the universe and they are about to be wiped out.
Being already an advanced civilization on hundreds of planets, this already plays a great advantage ahead of the any Alien invasion on Earth. There can be multiple different scenarios which these two civilizations can engage in rather just two on Earth. 1) They kick our ass 2) by miracle we kick back and win.
In HALO, there's more room. The humans can make a stand but are still being pushed to the brink and they learn more about fighting the enemy in varying engagements.
And it be nonreptitive since fighting a foriegn enemy is a learning experience. On Harvest when they make first contact, it'll be like a horror film where we are both awed and afraid of seeing REAL aliens and having almost no clue on how to best fight them. As time and battles wear on, we develope a deeper understanding of them on each different confrontation until Reach it's pure epic warfare where man makes his final stand before Earth.
I'm so far putting a lot of ideas for cool action and SFX it looks like, but I also think to put humanity in it. 27 year losing war for humans, it's like all that humanity itself after finally reaching into space is being wiped out in an instant. We are suddenly crushed by forces in the galaxy that we never realized, we see our struggle for survival in such an expansive unventured universe. What can we do against forces superior to us meselly humans? Fight or give up?
What story do we follow in this War? Srg. Johnson is character we know little about between Harvest and Reach and being one of the longest survivors of the war, it'll be quite a journey to follow him through all the fights we went through and all men under his command surrounding him are dying so frequently. All types of characters that have brief appearances to his whole story arc. While showing MC infrequently develop into the SPARTAN that'll be humanity's savior.
Yep, I put a lot of thought on how far you can carry a franchise. The whole history, background, characters form such a large detailed universe that I'd to expose that universe as being as amazingly deep and complex as our own. Well it is kind of our own, since it's humanity in the future. I give credit to Nolan's Batman films, LOTR and Star Wars for inspiring me to look at the universes created in fiction in such deep detail.
I appreciated the depth of your thought on this matter! A lot of people completely disregard video game properties as viable for films, but then again a lot of people did the same for comic book movies in the 60s too. I think Halo and other games too with so much attention and passion behind them deserve the kind of care you exhibit. To paraphrase the Nostalgia Critic, anything can be epic and interesting as long as you try. Thanks for the food for thought! :)
And speaking of Christopher Nolan, Inception has got me juicing up an interesting idea. What if before the Forerunners made the Halos they created a another weapon, a DreamMachine themselves to fight The Flood? Since the Flood controls the hosts' mind as well as the body, all being apart of a hivemind centered at the GraveMind the ForeRunners decide to subconciously fight the swarm mentally to disorient it from within down to the Source.
Technology can take you places, the Halo franchise could use that to advantage by going outside a fixed genre. Rather than always be massive warfare, here it can be more of scifi thriller where the greatest scientists from both sides are fighting for control of the mind. Another test of might between man and alien. Like I mentioned about covering the HumanCovenant War in a trilogy or two, an installment like that could serve as a great appetizer before getting to the HALO rings themselves.
@AspergianMind but Mastur Ch33f is a pretty cool guy, he kills aliens and doesn't affraid of anything... ha! anyone recognise that from a certain comedy series?.... i love Halo, it's a REALLY good idea and all that..... which is odd, since i got a PS3 and have probably actualy played halo for like only 2 hours.
they just keep making other crappy scifi movies cant they just put money in this -.-
i would make alot more money then some bullshit District 9 i mean ?
it boring and crappy also backstory is shit there is efryting from begining of 21 century i mean Halo had efryting it own charecther, whepons, ships, music, names
I agree, it's not his kind of film to make, but would be fantastic to watch if he did it.
Though the Alien and Predator ARE more in his reach as in his taste. They are more based in a gritty reality, at least the first 3 Alien films, but both can return to real if Nolan did them.
Besides it is a franchise that needs fixing. Ridley Scott doing the Alien prequel soon is a step in the right direction, but Nolan can make them #1 again in SCI-FI. He can make a crossover work, I'm sure he can.
i dont think christopher nolan's vision fits this type of film, dont get me wrong though nolan is an amazing filmaker with a bright future and the halo franchise has ALOT of depth in terms of characters, storylines, action, with potential to become a GREAT film but i believe nolans vision is toooo realistic for this apporach, i think someone like james cameron, or jj abrams or even peter jackson himself with make better sense.

I'm sorry you two were disappointed, but you had every right to be! Really, filmmakers have all the money, all the technology, all the man power they need. There needs to be passion there to make it all come together, there needs to be integrity of vision and craft.
oh and lets hope to god that Michael Bay doesn't direct this movie lol. The action will be amazing but the story and characters will suck just like in Transformers.
As enjoyable as the Transformers series seems to be for many, I think Halo could be more then that! Like The Dark Knight this property has potential to be moving and suspenseful, not just a special effects thrill ride.
Your only putting Transformers though. Armageddon was a great film by micheal bay with characters action and story so was The Island. He just screwed up on Transformers 2
Look at Bay's entire back catalogue. He's not a particularly talented actor, and his films only really cator to the immature, hot headed and unimaginative.
if cris nolan can make this work you never know sundley uwe boll will fuck off to his cave and decent movie games like legacy of kain and half life will be founded
One problem with Halo...it requires CG for things like space and energy swords and covenant weapons being fired and the list goes on and on. Christopher Nolan doesn't like CGI. But if he did agree to make this film then it would be amazing.
no matter what anyone says, this trailer looks real. If I was an annoying 12 year old kid on Xbox live, I would have believed...it was real. GREAT WORK!!!!
well to me, pretty much all michael bay movies are the same: emphasis on explosions and action, and not much of anything else. i don't personally even know if christopher nolan would be the kind of director to do something like "halo." his works tend to be much more grounded in reality.
So my trailer looked like emphasis on explosions and action and not much else, like the wretched Transformers movie? I've got to work on that.
Also 'grounded in reality' is an odd description for someone who made Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Halo could be realistic given the proper respect and not considered merely an action franchise.
Dude, the trailer itself is fine and well constructed. I just don't know if Christopher Nolan would be the ideal director to take on something that is as action oriented as Halo. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are darker, brooding, and methodical. Peter Jackson's initial involvement made sense because he can make an action packed epic with emotional resonance. Another suitable director for Halo could be Alfonso Cuaron.
oh come on. The transformers movie wasnt that bad. Yes it did have the emphasis on action and explosions and was too focused on the humans, but it was still a fun movie to watch. Far from perfect i know, but i thought it was decent.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I may have been harsh, but I'm frankly mad at Transformers since it was the kind of movie I'd been afraid would be successful: big effects with no story or characters. The effects were jaw-droppingly amazing, but it is the last movie I can remember falling asleep during because I didn't care about anybody in it. I just wish they'd put the effects, and the voice actors, and the potential story, to better use.
Christopher Nolan would definately be the perfect choice to direct Halo, but if I hear that Uwe Boll will be doing Halo I will go to wherever he is and throw a hatchet at him.
Interesting angle with this one. It's like a documentory of a science fiction war that has long since ended. It got me interested in a movie franchise I wouldn't normally give a second chance to, which is the point of a trailer. Good work!

I just wish they'd put the effects, and the voice actors, and the potential story, to better use.

duuuuude that was awesome. Question though--where'd you get those Elite clips? I haven't seen them before.

Thanks!
Those scenes are from the first released cutscenes for Halo Wars, a Halo themed RTS.

He's actually described in the books as a 'pale young man with many scars'.

Good work!
