Trains actually ran to Llanidloes until closure on 2nd October 1967. The Presflo wagons were not for "repairing a dam", but carrying cement for building the huge Clywedog dam.

As there are more steam locos been preserved, there is a lack of railways to run them on excluding Network Rail which require intensive assessments of heritage steam locos. Most disused lines now are cyclepaths which most of them are useless!

The last train I can remember seeing on this route was a Class 24 with about three 'Presflo' cement waggons in tow taking cement to repair a dam I think, on the remaining truncated length of line.

Excellent film. I'm doing a charity walk from Moat Lane via the abandoned railway line to Builth Road in the summer. The Llanidloes to Tylwch halt line being my favourite stretch of abandoned railway in the whole of Wales. The remnants of Penbontbren junction and AA bridge being a particular highlight as I have done the Llani to Tylwch line 2 times already.

i work on the p-way on the main line and im just curious why you never filmed the actual junction at moat lane were the platform still exists ????

AIDYH1. So you noticed! What happened was that the walk took so long through undergrowth, overgrowth etc., that when we were nearing Moat Lane Junction a number of the walkers had to break off and make a dash along the main road for the train from Caersws to Birmingham. So we missed the very end. Frustrating.

Will make the journey again soon to see the remnants of Moat Lane Junction. Thanks. JFW
