yea cause I am really going to be carrying a sword around at the same time some other guy is carrying a sword, and somehow we get into a fight, and on top of that I decided to also take a knife even though I already have a sword on me. sounds likely.

having said this I always thought it would be awesome to fence with a knife in your off hand for competitions and stuff. however if his intent was to help with competitions, then he fails to demonstrated proper footwork for fencing.

My protagonist in my book actually uses a cavalry sabre and a bowie knife in the big rescue/battle at the novel's end. Great to actually see it.
