I loved it. Pay no attention to the "expert" peanut gallery. What a pain in the ass they always are. A song is performed well and enjoyed, or it's not. Simple. Cheers to you, great job.
I don't like to be a partypooper, but this song was written by Al Green (1974) and covered by Talking Heads (1978). This version is as boring as batshit. You could replace the drummer with a drum machine and nobody would notice. The guitarwork is fairly poor. The singer? Need I go on.
You're not the 1st to point that AG wrote it, but we're basically doing the TH arrangement, so that's how we listed it. Pointing this out yet again does give me an increased respect for your depth of musical knowledge and adds greater credibility to your critique.
As far as the drum part, I deliberately kept it simple. I like the drum machine idea though. I could get a beer while it plays the tune for me.
Don't let me put you off your music. The main thing is that you enjoy what you are doing. Seriously. But I stand by my critique which I think in your heart of hearts you know is correct. And the error that you made in attributing the song to Talking Heads comments on your depth of musical knowledge, not mine.
Fair enough. At this point, I've been playing far too long to let anyone 'put me off my music'. While I don't agree with your assessment, it is what it is. But I do stand by the TH attribution, since the keys, guitar, tempo, snare sound, etc. are clearly emulating the TH arrangement, not AG. When we played it in bars certain people would try to impress us by telling us it's really AG, but out arrangement is TH, so that's what we call it.
Interesting comment by Hegemoner, but looking at his profile quickly he just appears to be a troll.
I actually thought the level of musicianship was pretty high across the board regardless of arrangement of the song, however, I am a musician and can tell the difference. So that could lead to some disagreements.
What matters tremendously more to me then a cloak-and-dagger critic like "hm," was the fact that I saw multiple peoples dancing with appreciation while the song was being played. This video/song representation is okay with me, especially knowing of mitigating circumstances that exist outside of a professional studio.
I think this was a great cover, the drum line is simple but that's what works in this song. The band chemistry is high and that what makes for a great show. Another great thing about covers is that it allows a band to add their own flavor to some of the best songs of our time. The vocals in this clip are great, lots of emotion. Keep it up guys.
I think it sounds good.

This is 100% Talking Heads arrangement, especially the first live ones. Nothing to do with Al Green's original in any form.
I would dance and sing to it - so it passed for me. Not as an album song (it's not adding anything to any versions) but as a nice addition to a gig.
Thanks, was nice
