Are you using electricity from your home to power the pumps? You can get 60w-100w solar panel, charge controller, inverter, n some used deep cycle battery for under $500, just in case the power goes out and fishies die due to lack of circulation, n to truely free yourself in case disaster strikes, also, it can be used for back up emergency power. i'd be raising catfish or tilapia just in case I need survival food. Awesome garden you got there. I am very jealous.
@lingcod76 , The prices have dropped even farther now. I just bought my panels with a charge controller, 200watt inverter, and connections for $300 and they have since fell to $250. I happened to have 2 semi batteries laying around for my storage.
The pump I use is a 12v bilge pump, when it gets closer to freezing, I'll use the inverter and a 100 watt fish tank heater
a balcony would be tough, could you get at least 6 hours of good light?
I'm an advocate for moving away from cities. Been there done that. It's not worth it, you work & chase, to buy... you pile up all this worthless Chinese shit you never use; looking around... your life is a big pile of Chinese Shit. That's what happened to me!
When all you're really after, is a happy, love filled life with your family & friends.
It's all media generated EGO & it's the least important of all.
oh yea, I agree Trey, I want everybody to try aquaponics balcony or not. I was just suggesting (he a farmer) the low light & plant absorption rate, AND get OUT of the CITIES! lol
It's better then nothing I guess. but not just for the food supplement (that's good) but also for the connection to the circle of life.
Seeing how all things in life are connected & how you connection to them; gives you greater sense of things & your prospective. The city has noise & general bad karma, that's all
A dude from YT, used to work at Epcot Center Orlando in one of the garden areas... He said, the fruit would fall and break under their own weight, about a week before they were ready/ripe. so i jumped right on it.
Yeah the Fruit is robbing me alright...
If I kill these fish again, the fruit will end up costing me, like 30-$40 each. they had better wear a mask lol!
thanks, I'm hoping some people may try this Aquaponics stuff, at some future point, for fun- PLUS!
"...guru" is a bit much, lol but thanks odin!
it feels good, just knowing this trial-run test, may result in more than simple food production for my family... That people might try to take control of some to their food consumption/production, is a positive thing in my mind; even if it's only 1 family.

economy is way more than a little hard bro. He's probably lucky to have the apartment.
You can do aquaponics in a small fishbowl and houseplant as long as they both hold the equal amount of water.
