@i9vandFriends emo is a genre of hardcore/punk that uses more melody and personal lyrics, it's ridiculous to think the only emo is shitty pop bands like Fall Out Boy or MCR. Bands like Rites of Spring, Cap'n Jazz, Fugazi, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Snowing are excellent emo bands. To define emo with a band like FOB is like defining punk with blink-182, a horrible example of the genre as a whole. I love the hardcore bands you listed and hate FOB but people are very misinformed about emo.

Yeah the emo term was originally slapped on to Sunny Day Real Estate I believe... I think, and their first two albums were pretty good. Yes, and even the Punk label gets far too overused, but who cares? I doubt labels will ever effect whether music is good or bad.
