Oh, this brought back memories! I can still taste the fried clams from Joseph's! I must've ridden that roller coaster ten times in a row on many days and I still remember the 1968 Weymouth H.S. prom at Nantasket!
I spent a few weeks every summer in Hull, 70s and 80s. Joseph's pizza on the boardwalk is still the best flat cheese pizza I have ever eaten in my entire life. I have such found memories of Hull, Nantasket Beach, and of course Paragon Park.
We always ended a day at Paragon with a chocolate soft serve and chocolate jimmies.
To Mr. Aronofsky: I love these Paragon Park videos and the great memories they bring back. I have favorited your "Remembering Paragon Park" video to my YouTube channel, and sent it in a link to my younger sister as well. She told me it brought tears to her eyes, just as it did for me. Thanks again for posting these truly precious memories.
Every year I would visit my grandparents summer home in Hull. Of course, each year we went to the ultimate Paragon Park. Those were the days, I have not been back since I was 18. Now, I am in my 50's so sad things have to change. Heard the Park is gone, and there is not summer homes anymore. Those were fun times.
I grew up in Weymouth in the 50s and 60s. What a time! Nantasket beach and Paragon Park were a huge part of my youth. Who remembers Arnie Ginsburg broadcasting live from the WMEX trailer in Paragon? Remember the mermaid on the Surf Ballroom marquis? Shortly after they opened they had to lengthen her hair to cover her breasts! I was about ten years old, I think. I wish I could go back, if only for a day...
Many fond memories of the park.Lived in Quincy, and went to the park from the 40's on. I remember the little stream going through ti in late 40's to the 50's. Roller coaster was bought by 6 Flags in Largo MD. Got to see it in the 80's when I was working in Wash.Dc. Hope it is still being enjoyed. Also, glad they saved the Merry Go Round.I can still see my Grandfather riding it with me. Such memories.
Awesome video,,, so many fond memories!! I loved the Rollercoaster!! I would ride it over and over!! Thank you for sharing these photos.Ill always miss Paragon park,, we went to Nantasket beach today,, hadnt been there in years and I looked over to where the Comet once was and felt sad!! Sure they have all these super size parks now. Paragon will always be my favorite!! :)
OMG! How I miss this park! I grew up in another town close by, but went often! Clamstrips and ice cream at Howard Johnsons, the Wild Mouse, COngo Cruise, Scrambler, Mattahorn, then in the 70s Uncle Sam;s (formerly the Surf)...memories, all of them great, I wish it was still there. Mid 60s thru late 70s..what a time! Thanks for posting this! xoxoxo
OMG, what memories! My Nanny had a house on Beach ave and my aunts and uncles would take me to paragon at night to ride the rides. I loved the carousel, it's still my favorite beach in the world. Now, as for the rollercoast, Mom said No, she thought it was too rickety, so I couldn't go , but fascination, the arcade, the people, the place, the BEACH, best memories I have in my life, I love it!
Oh my God . . . I lost count of how many times my family went there in the '60s and '70s. I loved that place. This video actually brought tears to my eyes as I thought about all the good times from my childhood. It was still operating in the '80s but no longer had the rides, just the arcade and the beach. Here's to Paragon Park, Brockton Fair and Rex Trailer (boom boom BOOM TOWN!).
Fantastic video that gives me nothing but smiles and great memories of my favorite home away from home as a kid growing up in the seventies. The coaster is in a new location and has been toned down a bit but at least its still operating. It will never be the same as it was at Paragon but the memories of it will never be taken away. Thanks for posting this awesome video. One of the best I have ever witnessed on You Tube.
wow...i have a few really good childhood memories from that place. i remember the story's of cars falling off the rickety big roller coaster(don't know if it ever happened) i got to ride it once when i was finally tall enough sadley it got torwn down soon after...
It didn't get torn down it was taken down piece by piece and it's still in operation today at six flags in Maryland i think. It's called the "wild one".
Thanks for bringing back some of the best times of my teenage years. I my parent knew about the stuff my friends and I did inside the kooky castle! Not much else measure up to the great times paragon brought us. During the eighties, my parents would actually drop off myself and another half dozen teens and leave us for the day. man, I could go on and on. Thanks!!!!
I'd almost forgotten how much fun i had when i was a kid. When my parents would leave my cousins and myself there for the day, boy did we get into some wild adventures that we never told them about. Definately some of the best times of my teenage years. They tore it down not long after i got my license, god that could've made for some even better times.
Wow! What a ride down Memory Lane! I had tried to find Paragon Park on Google Earth and it was GONE!!!! What the heck?!?! I'm with you sparrownightmare!
I have so many awesome memories of my summers in Quincy with the grandparents and Braintree with my cousins.
My brothers and I were allowed to hang out there by ourselves. But that was in the late '70's. What awesome times those were. Wish it were the same today. I feel bad for kids these days.
I loved this place... my graduating class from Junior High came down here on the boat and we had a blast..it must have been 1990....no , check that, 1968 ...:)
My grandmother and uncle lived in Hingham, Mass, and I lived in West Virginia. I would visit them every summer when I was a kid, and I do remember Paragon Park and Nantasket Beach. It was great fun and I have many awesome memories. On a whim, I decided to look it up, and sad to see it's closed, although it's not a surprise I guess. I also remember loving to ride the big blue water slide across the street from the beach. I guess that is gone too.
I miss that place! It was my first rollercoaster ride and I was so scared, but then it became my favorite. I remember being at the Park in it's final Summer of operation. So sad how all these places went under or sold out. Paragon Park and Salisbury Beach were part of my familis outings/vacations for years. I really miss those days, but feel fortunate enough to have experienced them.
thanks for posting...I lived in Hull and had the pleasure of riding 98% of the rides. I worked many a summer at the park scooping ice cream and then serving clams. I could hear the kids screaming on the roller coaster from my home!
The last time I was there, in around 1983, I took my niece and her friend. We were in the Kooky Kastle, and the ride got stuck. We were on the second level, about to go out onto the balcony, so we got out of the car and walked out onto the balcony. The people standing outside watching were surprised to see us walking out instead of a car coming out. We said, "It's stuck!" and an employee came and walked us down to where we could get out. Strangely, it's one of my fondest memories there!
A former classmate sent me a link to this video in remembrance of our date at Paragon Park after high school graduation in 1966. The video brought back some wonderful, if nonetheless bittersweet, memories of a bygone era. Too bad that we can't insert ourselves into the video and relive those days again.
I remember going there with my parents in the early 80's. I miss that place. all thats left is the carousel and the boardwalk. I'm 31 now and I was between 5-9 when i went there. I'll always cherish the time with my parents there especially my dad who died when i was 18.
This was so great to see. I grew up in Hull in the 60's - 70's and spent much of my Teen years at Paragon Park. Any one else here that went to the Broad Cove in Hingham in the 70's or The Surf in Hull ? If so, please respond. I want to tell you about a Reunion Dance coming up in November 2008.
I remember Paragon park....Kookie Kastle was my favoite ride, then when I was a teen, the giant rollercoaster probably was...even though, I nearly crapped my pants! That's when summers were fun!
As a teen I took a bus from Braintree to Quincy, the another bus to Nantasket-it was safe to do that-unlike today, always managed to ge a lift home after checkin out all the good lookink guys..thanks for the memories!
Thanks from a Germantown (Quincy) kid living in India now. I lived in Hull in '80&'81. I spent every summer day I could checking out the girls and "working on my tan" on Nantasket Beach. Young and stupid sure was more fun than old and stupid! thanks again
Nice job. Could use some music though (like a carousel or something.) PP closed just as I was hitting my mid-teens. I feel like I missed out on some good times just as I was getting to be tall enough to ride the Indy 500. We used to walk there from Quincy once a year for a fundraiser (and free day pass.)
Being from Dorchester, Ma orriginally, I had spent many a weekend at Paragon Park/Nantasket Beach growing up. It was a wonderful part of my youth because it had a personality all of its own. Unlike the super parks of today (six Flags,Disney & Universal) I am 52 and now live in Omaha, Nebraska and do miss the east coast. Thanks for these pictures - I used to love to go to Paragon Park in the summer, & we could see the roller coaster cars going up and over the tallest bit of track from our house in Hingham when I was young. Such a shame it was taken down.
Having spent many happy summers there in my youth, I could recreate my own soundtrack from those images - not to mention the smells. Thank you so much. Got any more?
