  • From what Kollias says, the swivel thing just kind of happened as his technique evolved and he demanded greater speed. I imagine it must reduce tension somehow.

  • This guy seriously needs to be locked up before someone gets hurts

  • the pedals might catch on fire

  • this isnt george. george goes heels down

  • @swordb88 no. just...no.

  • 2 dislikes, probably from those 2 bass drums

  • @FaboMaiden :D

  • This is so insanely sick!!!!

  • The only reason I think people swivel is to keep time. I have never swiveling at all until recently, and it was just a twitch reaction from my hands starting a 4-4 beat. You need to be able to make micro movements to avoid flamming, so really, moving your feet around is pretty important at 260, but past that, like the last Mayhem song on their last record, 290, you need to be either tapping or have some magic feet.

  • this guy never seems to make a mistake.

  • I don't believe that the swivel is an actual technique, personally. I haven't played drums in awhile, but about 4 years ago when I was in a band, I was doing probably 200+ bpm and my technique was flat foot, with just the ankle, almost like a Moeller bounce. One day I was just jamming and maxing out my drum kicks and my vocalist comes up to me and tells me that my ankle was swiveling and I didn't even realise it. I think that motion just comes naturally when going at that speed for balance. IMO.

  • @drumgroovy Cool man! I agree!

  • @Bearthoughts The first person to really advocate swiveling as a technique was 'once fastest drummer in the world' Tim Waterson. I guess the flat foot is the only technique to go with if you're doing straight 16th or 32nd notes with the kicks.

  • @drumgroovy george says this, alll the time. He just said that consciously doing it, 2 strikes on each swivel helps to keep it even and consistent.

  • @drumgroovy swivels are mostly single strokes, but enhanced to a shivel to give it more drive and speed.

  • PERFECT, just perfect nothing else !!!!

  • owowowowowowowowo ....dude ....if he kicks someone all of his bones are going to break like chopsticks

  • HOW

  • The loudspeakers that play the trigger sounds arent close so the bassdrum is really quiet.

  • I used to be able to play like that, then i took an arrow to my knee

  • Definetly some practicing going on there!

  • Why won't NIKE sponsor him?

  • its not even the bass drum its a constant buzz like the real bass.. lol RESPECTED.

  • i'm not a drummer, but if i was, he would be my principal influence!!

    This is just epic!!

  • this is mind blowing . i mean MINDFUCKING

  • Meh

  • The test results haven't come back, but I am pretty sure he is faster with one foot that I am with two. O.o

  • I need to buy Nikes now !@#

  • he looks like he is literally floating off the ground when he swivels

  • sometimes i like to pretend that i could do the swivel technique but i end up embarrassing myself infront of my friends

  • \m/

  • looks like he's electrocuted when both feet swivel

  • i think i will star playing golf or something. .

  • Nike is so metal

  • while watching near the middle i was waiting for something to catch on fire..... i don't know why though......

  • Chuck Norriss' beard told him to play like that or else.

  • @riverfallscory Pftf!, Georges feet snipped off Norris's bear and said "come out fist!, and stop hiding like a bitch!".

  • nike should sponsor him for running marathons behind his kit..

  • Epic ..... O.o

  • this is chuck norris?

  • @wipezama chuck norris doesn't come close to george kollias

  • @trifdrummer without milk

  • Ride a bicycle, - u scumfuck

  • i bet he can cross 100m in 5 seconds! :)

  • Maybe NIKE is the secret!!!!!

  • @rafforca Wasn't that an old Nike commercial where they said...."it's gotta be the shoes" ha ha. That would be great if shoe companies started to give endorsment deals to sick death metal drummers.

  • I have the same shoes!

  • 1 person is wheelchair bound

  • got a cramp just looking at it

  • i'm buying nike shoes

  • Needs HD sound

  • 0:35 im like "how can he play so fast, hes just rubbing his feet on the pedals"

  • look his muscle

  • He have another foot in he's foot...

  • he always wears the same shoes xD nike shoul give him a signature model, the doublebasskickassshoe...

  • what shoes does he wear?

  • his feet are moving so fast it just looks like he's rubbing the foot pedals...

  • 0:36

You can just imagine some kind of machine attached to the tops of those legs, just off camera, instead of a person. xD

  • He is recording music for Tom&Jerry

  • his feet are literally fucking gliding on the pedal

  • Oh, *Okay meme face*.

  • What... the.... fuck

  • i bet you that happy feet penguin would be nuts on the double kick

  • It's actually a commercial for nike.

  • 'bem ti sunce u picku !!!

  • This man is clearly possesed by some sort of "awesome" demon.

  • This video is interesting because in his clinics he mentions that he uses heel down for more speed or at least a combination of heel up/down, but this looks like all heel up, and hes playing pretty fast so now Im a little confused.

  • Nike, making afro americans run fast and george kollias play fast, no racial hate intended, just a joke;)

  • i hate the swivel technique.

    Why?

    because I can't do it

    D:

  • @WretchedDrummer It's actually ankle motion, he just swivels because it helps him with balance.

  • @sebbimon Hands down one of the most talented drummers out there!

  • @WretchedDrummer Definitely the most technical drummer ever. In my opinion there is no best drummer, because all drummers are great in their own way! Same with music, hate seeing people bashing about which band is the best. :--D

  • @sebbimon I believe that Virgil Donati is more technical than George, but I prefer George and I love Nile, not Planet X...

  • @Blacklorigine Idk, but aint Planet X and Nile a little bit far away from each other, genre wise? Nile is Tech Death, Planet X is progressive as hell? Indeed, he is very talented but yeah.

  • @sebbimon he's fast, but far from technical. i've only ever heard one or two time signatures and no polymeter out of him. if you want technical metal drummers (of which there aren't many, you really want latin players for the crazy stuff), try thomas haake or blake richardson.

  • @shaolinkungfu666 Well, i guess we took technical in two different ways. Yeah, i know Thomas, one of my favourite drummers also. But what i ment is, that he have (possibly) mastered all speeds up to 300bpm. In that way he is technical :p

  • @shaolinkungfu666 If your only definition of "technical" involves time signatures, then you're missing out on a lot of what goes into drumming. The intricacy of Kollias's drumming combined with its speed is something that neither Haake nor Richardson can even come close to touching.

There are a number of drummers up there with him, but not too many.

  • @zgates i'm talking about actual intricacy of parts. blasts, while fun to play and listen to, are terribly simple in theory. he doesnt do anything difficult from a music theory standpoint, he just plays extremely fast.

  • @shaolinkungfu666 I have seen him do some really technical stuff, but I do think blasting is overrated, and prefer some independence instead of just rolling between the hands and feet (I prefer the sections where he's playing a back beat on the hands and double kick on feet). I'd add Danny Carey to that list, more super technical stuff, but done really tastefully and with subtlety.

  • @anarchisttomato agreed sir.

  • @sebbimon Totally agree with you!

  • @WretchedDrummer he said, he dosn't use this swivel stuff. he just tries to hold the balance

  • @WretchedDrummer im not even sure hes doing the swivel technique there but its hard to tell. i think he usually does the glide technique which is like the swivel but you don't wave your heels back and fourth to the beat. when you get up to higher speeds, if drummers decide to move there heels back and fourth its usually the glide technique because it would be too fast to move there heels like that.

  • @WretchedDrummer Try playing heel-up, but two notes either side of the pedal at something like 16ths @ 140. It's a really basic form of swivel, but it helps stave off the muscle tension, which swivel is really good for. Just heel up moving over to the left and the right for each two notes is a great way to start, and you'll be surprised how much longer you'll last. George tends to swivel at high speed with one note per side. That stuff's crazy! :D

  • @WretchedDrummer It came natural to me when I got Axis pedals.

  • @WretchedDrummer don't worry, it isn't a technique at all. :)

  • my idol with great footwork....

  • Hysteric feet. Amazing...

  • Looks like he's Flying *v*

  • He looks so relaxed...That's technique.
