I believe, and you can correct me if I'm wrong, that Nissan did not include the "Skyline" name because it does not share the same chasis as the current Skyline, known as the Infiniti G35. The chasis for the R35 is built specifically for the GT-R and is shared by no other car, hence why they dropped "Skyline" out of the name.
Ok, people I'll break it down as simply as possible. Nissan SEPERATED the names "Skyline" from "GT-R." Much like Toyota did with the Celica/Supra. Why? Because:1) it was time to develop a new Skyline sedan/coupe for global sale that can also double as an upsale "Infiniti"; and 2) It was also time to develop a new GT-R that would re-write the supercar rulebook. Simple. And they did it. And yes, it's a MORE than successful hair to the RB-powered cars!
OH FUCK!! There is a Mines version of this BEAST already?!! beware, supercars your asshole will be stretched and thrusted by a GTR very very soon.....
It's because its not based off of the Skyline Sedan like past GT-R's. The G35 is a Skyline. Its chassis code however is V35. The new GT-R has an R chassis code to maintain the cars tradition of the R code. Since it stopped at R34 the new one is the R35 naturally.
Chassis is R35, the R35 skyline is the U.S. infiniti G35, R35 GT-R is only known now as the Nissan GT-R. why do you have to ignore what everyone else said?
Yes you are right, they dropped the SKYLINE tag out because from the chassis onwards, its a totally different machine.

It's R35. R35 is the chassis code of the new car, which follows the old Skyline GT-Rs that ended at the designation of R34.
And there is NO "R35 Skyline".

Yes. It's not a Skyline anymore. It's just a GT-R.
