i just fixed mine, if you have any cats or dogs and this happens to you it is possible that the servo sucked up some hair or dust, just take it apart and try it, if the gear is broken you can buy the servos for 10 dollars.
Thanx. I was able to work out the kink, by taking off the landing skids and removing the control arm from swashplate, and spinning the gears manually until they moved freely. It sounds loud and ratchety when it moves, and it buzzes sometimes when fully extended, but it flies fine for now.
I bought it damaged off Craigs List, for $50 (full McX RTF kit)
needed top rotors, inner shaft/rotor head, & battery.
I just got my replacement parts today and it was cheaper than expected. 12 bucks at local hobby shop for 120 mAh battery and top rotors (picked up a few extra rotor blades and an extra battery too) . Still waiting for aluminum rotor head/shaft assembly $11.88 shipped. I was able to temporarily repair and strengthen rotor head by wrapping a strip of aluminum around it that I cut from a soda can.
I have the same problem, I can't find a replacement servo gear, only the whole unit. So I'm going to try to work out the kinked spot in the gear. Any suggestions?
@justinchrist762 I would call E-Flite up and see if they will replace your entire board. That's what I did. They have always been great about replacing stuff. I also sent back my 1st Citabria for a stripped servo. Since then I've gotten another mCX, a Vapor, a mSR, and the new J3 Cub. I think they must have made some improvements to the servos, because only the first two I had stripped.
This exact same thing happened to me after a crash and I was able to fix it myself. First, I completely removed the 5-in-1 unit from the frame, with the battery disconnected, of course (take out the two screws, disconnect elevator and aileron servo arms, disconnect rotor motors, unwrap antenna). Then I manually rotated the problematic servo (the aileron in my case) several times through its complete range of motion by turning the big gear with my finger. Hope this works for you!
I also managed to strip inside threads on the plastic guide where link rod connects after a crash. With mCX powered down, if move the large gear few turns then I can "feel" the friction while rotating at some "spots". Since plastic guide can't be replaced, I am going to replace the whole servo unit. What a waste!
I ordered servo units (comes in a pair), part number EFLH1066 from eBay seller hiprohobbies for $12 shipped.
Remove 4 small screws holding servo unit on 5-in-1. De-solder two wires.
I don't know. Both of my servos are pretty loud. It must be how they are geared. It still flies fine and I can't really hear the servos while in flight.
Oh yeah it is. I got an early Christmas present this year and got a Futaba 10C and did an internal antenna mod with the Spektrum module. Do a Google search for "spektrumizing a Futaba 10c. It should be the first link on RCGroups that shows up. The MCX flew great with the Super 8U and flies even better with the backlit screen on the Futaba 10C!
hi there! i just want to know if i can use my walkera 4#3b 2.4 ghz transmitter to e-flite blade mcx. they said this heli is a bind and fly, is my transmitter compatible with this heli? please help. thanks!
Yeah, this Blade MCX is bind-n-fly, and uses DSM2 2.4 ghz technology. I'm pretty sure that Walkera doesn't have dsm2, but uses some other proprietary 2.4 ghz technology.
Futaba is another example their 2.4 ghz technology is called "Fasst" and it isn't compatible and wont bind with the Blade MCX.
I know this is probably obvious, but make sure that the red dots line up. You might also take a needle or some tweezers to bend the tiny pins in the battery. That said, the battery connectors are poor, and only one of my batteries actually "snaps" in. The rest of them kinda fit. If you look at it wrong, it will come loose. It's a good thing this heli is so stable or the battery would become disconnected all the time.
Some people have had success fixing stripped servos by putting some CA in the gears somehow. I didn't want to try. I just called Horizon and they are shipping me a new 5 in 1 unit.
The 5-in-1 is expensive. Its about $50. Horizon Hobby has excellent customer service. I called them and told them what happened and they replaced my 5-in-1 for free.
Whoah dude, guess what? Just today I stripped the gear on the servo (one of the two tiny gears at the bottom of the 5-1 unit, not the rotor gears). But I called the hobby shop and asked them what I need to replace. First they said the 5-1 unit. But since all that is wrong with mine is the little gear I asked them if that little gear is available and they said YES! Make sure you are not getting yiped man! The little gears are cheap!!!
Wow? Are you sure it is just the little gear on the servo? Usually what gets stripped is the worm gear that moves the pushrod. You're lucky. Just to make sure, just plug in the battery, but don't put it in the holder and see if both servos are able to move.
I added some annotations to the video. The culprit was the battery. The manual says not to push it in too far. I pushed it in as far as it would go, but didn't notice that it was interfering with the elevator servo. Only one of my batteries touched the gear. Its aluminum corner wasn't folded as neatly as my other two batteries.
I like this video. great shooting.

Rick, what radio is that? I dont reconize it...
If you can fly the mCX well, a mSR is a good idea!

It's a Futaba Super 8U. I had the Spektrum Module in it. I now have a Futaba 10Cap with the same module. It works great with Spektrum stuff.

Would anyone know in the Blade MCX comes with a 72Mhz radio option?
Afrocanook 3 years ago
I'm pretty sure the only version that they have is the DSM2 2.4ghz version.

i think its the same one as mine.

Ouch yeah thats an expensive mistake (60 for a new servo) thanks for sharing, i'll make sure to be extra careful from now on.

Yeah, be extra careful. This little heli is too much fun for it to be sidelined because of a malfunction.

By the way, the servo replacement comes with both servos!

full servos or just gears
dingo7222 3 years ago
I only had to pop another tiny gear and everything is back to normal. No servo replacement needed.
Only needed if your worm gear is damaged inside the "servo".
