Hmm, I know what you mean by no influence of any kind which is really out of character(like you said at least the other times he had an excuse). Then again he always did give Christine and Janice weird looks too lol. I'm not a big fan of Droxine. I guess because she was so young looking and so innocent that when Spock as interested in her it was like an old guy being interested in a young teenager (kinda creeped me out). It's ok though I like the Romulan Commander even less lol!!!

oh and Spock and Leila aren't good either. She wanted to change him and make him part of their community, but Spock is one of a kind...and by his nature, an outsider. That's why I think Spock and Zarabeth work so well together. She didn't want to change him, she accepts him as he is. And they connect because they both feel alone and like an outsider. Sooo yeah sorry for the rambling. Good vid.

Ummm well i disagree. yeah, leila wanted him to love her the way she loved him for years and years, since back on earth. But spock could never return her love. Therefore, the only way she can have him is to drug him with the spores, ie change him. Zarabeth did not try to change him. The changes that did happen to him in that episode, however, were due to the time portal conditions.." The point is that it was not Zarabaeth's doing.

On the issue about Zarabeth's lying.....I feel that it was out of desperation. When McCoy confronted her, she did not deny her lie. And when Spock asked her if they could leave, she admitted the truth even though it meant she would lose him. She didn;t even ask him to stay with her...she accepted the consequences. But with Leila.....even after Spock realized what happened to him and got better, she still wanted to change him again and wanted him to come back.

One more thing...Spock even realized what was happenig to him in "All Our Yesterdays" and that he may never be able to go back (because of the destruction of the original planet with the time portal), and Spock STILL wanted to stay with Zarabeth. (OMG that is my favorite part.....so sweet and romantic <333) And all the while Zarabeth never insisted on him staying...she just went back to her lonely existence.

That is where the spores come in. They strip away fears, discontentment, anger, guilt, and let people just be who they want to be. They set Spock free from being forced to control his emotions. They let him be him and he was happy. He could love Leila the way he wanted and she him. Their love was a long time coming. Leila was never trying to change him. She was helping him.

hmmm Spock/Uhura. Honestly I'm not the biggest fan. If you think about the series Uhura wasn't even a big character. Christine Chapel had a larger part --they even did a whole episode devoted to her. I happen to like Spock/Christine better becuase there was actually reason to believe there was something between them. Why she wasn't a character in the movie (they did mention her name once) I don't understand.

yeah the new movie was iffy with me. i enjoyed the spock/uhura stuff, but i wasn't totally convinced. I understand that it's supposed to be set in an alternate universe, but yeah uhura wasn't even a big character. And even though i don't like spock/chapel, i am also really puzzled as to why they completely left her out of the movie. ???

I wish Spock had more love scenes though. lol I think he is the best star trek character ever. My fave used to be Data, up until i saw the movie and TOS.

Leila is the only woman Spock ever had who actually knew him for a long long time (not counting T'Pring). From what I gather, Leila understood Spock on a personal level. She knew he couldn't love her the way he truely wanted to inside, until he was free of the guilt of breaking Vulcan taboo --showing love (it was never not having love).

You're right about Spock not being able to return her love. This was only because he was struggling to be completely Vulcan. We know he did love her by what he says at the end of the show (about self made pergatories that we all have to live with). Vulcans DO love they are just not allowed to show it (hellofa way to live)--not to mention the fact that Spock was half human(more emotion). But Leila wasn't trying to CHANGE Spock...she was trying to HELP him because she knew him so well...

Yea, that's Leonard for ya. Just the right movement at just the perfect moment. He's such an incredible actor. Spock was who he was because Nimoy basically created the character. I never get tired of watching him lol :)
