There are Russian language venues funded by foreign governments, aside from the above two named, Georgia has KanalPik for instance, and it serves pretty much the same purpose as RT. The fact that RT has success in the US is due to the fact that they often cover things US media would not touch.
RT is (I think) a Russian answer to Voice of America and Radio Free Europe. The idea is to give the voices on the fringes in the West a place to express themselves, much like VoA and RFE/RL do in Eastern Europe. They do so indeed in some instances, however with Alyona they just employ a member of the leftist mainstream. And it is not just the case with her show, other shows there have a clear leftist slant.

I used to be a reporter, and yeah, always ask for email. I'm glad you know how to deal with them. In all fairness to Alyona, though, she's had staff from Reason on her show and treated them pretty fairly. And Reasonites do make their libertarian bias very clear. Reporters need to stop claiming to be unbiased and disclose their leanings. It is pretty cool, though, that RT contacted you.

I have also found that if you go your own way, people hate you, I think they may be starting to fear you Bern. I got an email from a feminist and apparently a satanist as well placing a curse on my parents. I emailed her back and amongst other things to never ever join our side. because we dislike whack jobs. Alyona also defended Planned Parenthood when the latter got de-funded. Given her record, it is a wise choice not to appear on her show.

There are Russian language venues funded by foreign governments, aside from the above two named, Georgia has KanalPik for instance, and it serves pretty much the same purpose as RT. The fact that RT has success in the US is due to the fact that they often cover things US media would not touch.

RT is (I think) a Russian answer to Voice of America and Radio Free Europe. The idea is to give the voices on the fringes in the West a place to express themselves, much like VoA and RFE/RL do in Eastern Europe. They do so indeed in some instances, however with Alyona they just employ a member of the leftist mainstream. And it is not just the case with her show, other shows there have a clear leftist slant.

I used to be a reporter, and yeah, always ask for email. I'm glad you know how to deal with them. In all fairness to Alyona, though, she's had staff from Reason on her show and treated them pretty fairly. And Reasonites do make their libertarian bias very clear. Reporters need to stop claiming to be unbiased and disclose their leanings. It is pretty cool, though, that RT contacted you.

@pinegrove33 I 100% agree that they should be as critical of the kremlin as they are the US, UK and European governments.
But at the end of the day, 50% of the truth is still the truth, and there is a LOT of truth on Russia Today about both of 'our' respective governments, researched by our citizens (im uk). Just saying anyway. I'm sure that if you were to watch a few episodes of her show, and other shows on RT, they are quite diverse in content and ideology and truly show our news stations up.

@pinegrove33 I don't watch her show,but I have to say I like present day Russia they have really discarded their Communist past & Putin has done right by his people on so many levels,he has also rebuilt their religious roots. And has even caused a baby boom in Russia,Russia is now a growing economy thanks to Putin because he kicked the Oligarchs that were a remnant of the Bolshiviks that nearly destroyed them so its not. Surprising our media hates his guts.

Agreed. I get the impression that Putin has zero guilt and will never apologize for focusing on his people's own problems. When jihadists tried in 1999 to cut off Russia from the Caspian by invading from Chechnya into Dagestan, Putin smote them and put them in the ground. Putin is Hyperion to the satyr of Yeltsin.

@crypter27 Yes. I'm of Eastern European descent and lately I've become fascinated by 20th century history and what my ancestors and fellow Poles endured between Hitler and Stalin. What really blows my mind is recently learning of the Haavara Agreement (Transfer Agreement) of 1933, and having never heard this historical fact mentioned on the History Channel or any other propaganda piece posing as a "documentary".

@crypter27 The Zionist Federation of Germany and the German govt signed an agreement in Aug 1933 to facilitate Jewish emigration to Palestine. What offends me is not having learned of this German/Jewish partnership via any well-publicized documentary (such as History Channel's recent docu The Rise.) Rather, one is taught that our German neighbors were either stupid/gullible, or uniquely selfish/ethnocentrist, and German Jews considered themselves more German than Jewish. Talk about a Big Lie!

@crypter27 Yes. I've seen it with the vilification of my Slavic brethren the Serbs in my lifetime, and I'm discovering gross distortions of history more and more lately. I'm becoming a sad and wiser man but my eyes are open to protect myself at all times.
