The Creeper is what a virus or computer virus - even. is thought to look like. Ever notice huge pieces of art viewd from high in the sky in Minecraft look more clearer because each block is like a pixle, we are like microscopic people in a world very zoomed in. I think that's why notch made the creeper the shape it is. It's a virus up-close.

I don't think of them as insects or dinosaur-like. This is a representation of my own interpretation of them. You might try checking out the latest version if it though!

It is green, actually. Maybe not the bright saturated shade you expected, but skip to 1:55 to view the final rendered results.

The model is differently shaded in the 3D viewport in real time, so it doesn't look the same as the final result. It's just like a "preview" mode.
