Sure anime DVDs may seem expensive. But you must also take into account that supposedly the cost to dub each episode is around $10,000 to $20,000 dollars. With Samurai Champloo there are 26 episodes. Twenty-six episodes x $20,000 = $520,000. There is also the licensing fee plus other miscellaneous fees.
Not a lot of people pay retail for anime anyway. What do you think would be a fair price?
what? then their company wouldnt even make money..they would be losing money..but i guess thats why FUNimation seems cheap by releasing season part 1 and part 2's instead of jst one complete season..but then why make dbz seasons 35-40$ when some seasons have more than 30 episodes..and make shows with less episodes more money? because there are more dbz seasons? and im not entirely sure what retail is so if u have time to explain it would help lol
My best guess is that FUNimation has already recuperated all their initial investment when they first released DBZ (Dragon Ball Z). And because of this, they can now re-release DBZ at a lower price tag.
FUNimation is re-releasing DBZ in more economically cost effective sets to entice new buyers. These $35 - $40 dollar price points per set is used to milk even more DBZ dollars.

Very true and it should be noted that Samurai Champloo is one of Geneon's current titles that FUNi's doing distribution for so that's another big difference since FUNi also has a few of Geneon's expired titles as well and those (just like the latest half-season & Viridian sets) are gettin the "6-7 episodes a disc" treatment.
Great job on whoever did the Samurai Champloo boxset packaging. I own all the Geneon singles already, and the fact that you retained all the singles' artwork AND the staff interviews for this boxset is amazing, and a real treat for new anime fans. Great work.
And some of the Part 1/Part 2 sets will now be in keepcases? Neat.

The dub was absolutely brilliant. Champloo is certainly an incredible series. I am going to make an assumption (it might not be true), but would I be incorrect to say you favor subs given that Champloo has one of the better dubs around.
for the facebook contest, i still prefer a random draw as apposed to the closest time to post. it's like saying only the people who are closest to the time have a chance of winning it, whereas everyone is included with a random draw.

champloo is some kinda jap/ asian dialect for "mixed" becuz mugen has a "mixed" fighting style and jin is actually a samurai.
