wow, you get some true fucktards talking shit to you about your stance. I'm sure you figured out that its best to keep your weak hand farther back on the forward stock... nice 22 though. I've been thinking of getting one of these for a while now. Do you have any issues out of it? picky on ammo? magazine issues?
@MilitantPIG I never had any magazine issues or ammo issues. I shot mostly Remington ammunition through it. Sometimes I would cycle Federal ammo through. No problems. Just keep it clean, and it will perform. I did buy a 30-rnd banana clip for it. You can find them at Bass Pro. It worked well with the rifle. It's been a couple years since I've shot this rifle, as I am now in Afghanistan shooting bigger and better weapons. :)
@VicariousReality7 the 597 is hands down a better design than the 10/22 its bolt is the biggest diffrence ive noticed less like a rimfire bolt more like a centerfire bolt .. in true Remington fashion you cant disassemble the bolt .
welli purchased one of these rifles...and i wasnt impressed at all ...i shot around 200 rounds through it it jammed on every 2 rounds...and then the extractor broke and a load blew the back of the shell off and blew fragments in my face...it shoots accuritly when it does shoot but it jammed more than anything
I have this same Rim fire rifle. I always use Federal .22LR rounds because I have never had even one faulty round. Unlike the Remington .22LR rounds were 3-4 of them won't shoot out of a box of 500 rounds. I am able to shoot my Remington 597 as fast as I can, and It doesn't jam unlike my friends who all have Ruger 10/22's. This could just be because I actually take care of my rifle and clean it after every use.
This rifle makes some noise but it's not extremely loud. I can safely shoot it without hearing protection although that's probably not recommended. It's not loud enough to hurt my ears.
If you handle a gun properly it shouldn't get damaged... Synthetic doesn't necessarily last any longer than wood. There are still guns from world war two and older that have there stocks in excellent condition... And think about this... They were in a war, they're going to get damaged and they lived through it.
now thats bull synthetic parts last way longer than wood ones.............wooden parts need a lot of attention to be in a good condition.......im a wood stock fan my self by i admmiitt that the plastic parts are tougher
Thats bull shit. Wood needs like no more attention it that plastic. What extra attention do you need ? NONE ! plastic cracks easier, Isn't balanced, and should there be a problem in your stock such as the area around the screws that hold the action in, gets damaged, you have no hope of fixing it yourself. Lets remember this... Guns aren't meant to be thrown around, dropped off buildings and run over by a truck, If you handle your gun properly... It wont get damaged...
Your the one who needs to get open minded, How would i know all of these things if i wasn't open minded enough in the first place to try it ? Wood is better... It should be wood and metal on guns... not plastic and more plastic... and maybe a little metal. Sure plastic might take better be driven over by a truck, but are you really going to do that ? wood is superior....
dude both of my guns(870 500) have wooden stocks....i have a spare plastic forend and stock 4 my m500...the wooden parts are scratched due to the vegetation we come across when hunting.....my plastic parts which i use on rainy days are good as new... i love wooden stocks i like the way they bond with the metal parts but i admit that plastic parts are nearly immortal...........many of my friends use them 4 years and they dont have a scratch......
Wood doesn't rot easily... Sure if you stick the gun in water and leave it there for 6 weeks it will...but remember, if your handling your gun correctly you wont damage the stock. Plastic is for 12 year olds.
Now i really dont get how stupid someone can be, plastic is used in every modern firearm....plastic, " DOES NOT CORRODE".....is that a little too hard for your head to wrap around?...wood " DOES CORRODE".....do i need to spell it out for u? , im not even going to reply next time for your stupid reasoning and complete ass backwards incompetence.....wood is natural, therefore breaks down..got it? Plastic stays for years without signs of decomposition...just bc its pretty doesn't mean it will last.
Umm... What planet are you from... I want you to count the number of wooden stocked guns... There are plenty of wood stocks out there for people who can use a gun. If you don't stick your gun in a fucking swamp and leave it there for 6 weeks and come back it won't rot. Plastic is cheap and shity. Plastic cracks easily. Plastic doesn't weigh very much so your gun is too light to shoot. I want you to go and look at some guns from world war two, They went through a war and are still fine.
@rdcd20 Actually if you look at almost every old gun lee enfield has some nice rifles that are rotting away. Almost every gun made now is plastic. I dont know when the last time you were in a store that sold firearms but they are all plastic
@joshuadawson25 thats one particular brand of rifle. There are guns from well before the 1890s with beautiful looking wood stocks. Not every gun made now has a synthetic stock. @joshuadawson25 Glocks have synthetic frames. Go look at some old 1911s, wood grips, steel frames and they're still reliable. The stock doesn't make the gun itself more reliable, that depends on the quality of the action.
lol who taught this kid how to hold a gun. Try holding a 308 semi the same way with a scope on it and see what happens, ahah make sure to post the video.
I have this same rifle and I love it. I have put tons of rounds throuhgh it and have few jams / misfires. I clean it alot often because I'm bored (rem oil down the barrel, in the action and on it, rem oil the magazine, run wipes down the barrel). But honestly, I probably don't need to clean it as much as I do because I just like to do a scarface and blow off rounds with my 30 banna clip. Anyway, this is a good rifle and I would reccomend it.
well the remington is alot more accurate than the ruger and its cheaper. The ruger has more aftermarket parts you can buy (stocks, barrels, clips etc) but its more expensive. The trigger is alot better on the remington. To make the ruger as accurate as the remington you have to tinker with it and buy new parts. It prolly costs about $150 extra. The remington 597 models earlier than '05 jammed like every ten rounds, but f you buy a remington model later than '06 you wont be dissapointed.
i shot threw a 2X4 from 60 yards away with an ar-7 (an expensive low quality peice of crap that looks cool and thats about all)and stingers, honestly a 9mm round wouldnt do much better than that. now a 22 hornet.. that will definetly kill most anything that can die.
bikerD15: I read that these jam a lot is that true?
I have heard that as well. If you take proper care of the rifle (oil, lubricate, etc) then the rifle performs smooth. From my experience, I haven't had a major problem with jamming.
Yeah, also, something else that might help it not jam as often if yours or anyone's is jamming, is to check the bullets. Using your fingernail pull up on the tip of the top bullet lightly to point it up as much as you can without popping the bullet out. That will help the bullets to load smoother and faster. It helped a lot with me.
Ha, maybee at 5 yards right in the eye, but no- i use it for squirrels, rabbits, skunks, coons and common birds- w/a good scope you can smoke any small game from 100 yds.
It depends on the market but right now the canadian dollar is worth 96 cents US. So that would come out to say $275 USD or so. Thats just a conversion from the price above to USD. Obviously the price would differ depending on availability and location of purchase.
The package just came with the rifle and the 10-rd clip. Normally the rifle retails for $125-$130 in Missouri however it came with a discount which brought the price down.
If you absolutely had to you could kill with a .22. Fortunately, I've never been in that type of scenario. However I have heard of people getting killed by a .22.
And the velocity, since it is a .22 would be different than that of an AR-15.
Can you shoot 17 hmr rimfire bullets out of that i want to see if you can because i have that gun. you should get some and show us. if they are in 22, im pretty shure they are.
I don't think you can shoot 17 hmr's out of this rifle. I am working on a new video that demonstrates this rifle. It will go into detail about it more than this one.
i have had my rem 597 for two years and have fired 30,000 rounds yes 30,000 rounds through it and no problems i have a jumbo scope on it and shoot a 3" group at 120 yards if you have problems with jaming you are not properly cleaning your rifle and the magazine the base plate of the mag pops right off and remove the spring and follower clean and oil i will post a proper cleaning of my gun here soon and show you all i can fire 500 rounds with no jambing in consistent groups
I know this probably is a stupid question but I've seen this gun with the scope combo and the combo still comes with iron sights right? I just wasn't sure because pictures show it without the sights.
the 30rd Banana clip does every once in awhile. But it's not very good quality either. I haven't had any problems with the 10-rd clip that came with the rifle though, it works great. But the key to limiting jams with the clip is to make sure the bullets are in right, and that the top bullet is pointed up as much as you can push it with your finger nail with out it popping out. If your clip is causing problems there is a section in the manual about the proper way to load the bullets.
I owned a 597 then traded it in after a long time of watching all the videos and custumizations on the internet, about the 1022. And i had to pay another 100 dollars for the 1022 after trade in. I regret it all the time. The stock 597 is easily better than the stock 1022. After puting about 300 more dollars into the 1022 it shoots about as good as a stock 597.
I picked up the Mossy Oak Camo at Walmart...Scope and Rings for $26 and Remington Hollow point 550 round for $13. I own a Rugger 10/22 ive had since 1990...great rifle also...I think people talk up the 10/22 as it has been around longer so more fond childhood memories and also lots of customizations available for that rifle...The 597 has not been around very long but i find it more comfortable to hold, dead accurate, very reliable and a better price
how good is the gun overall in like hunting and target practice and is the aming at like 80 so yards
plus how much u get it for...
i was looking in a gun book where i get my guns and the exact one u have and colour goes for 170$ i just wanted to know how much u payed for it, and nice shooting
Overall the gun in my opinion is very good. If you clean it right and make sure everything is in working order, check the bullets in the clip, etc, it works very well. The only time it jams is when I do something wrong. With target practicing it is also very good. I hit on target, perfect aim without a scope at 179 feet which is roughly 60 yards. So add in a scope, and it is good for I'd say up around 150 yards. I bought mine at Bass Pro for around $115. The 30 .rd clip is ok but jams often.
i might get exactly that one on the coming up wednesday in fact i might get like 2-3 guns on wednesday a shotgun and 2 .22 rifles if it is possible for me. But 95% chance i will get that gun witha extended mag and like 1,000 rouns with it...
i hope its good and its good quality tho, i know i will have fun with it
wow, that's crazy that it jams. The only time mine has jammed is when I did something wrong. Most of the time it's that I loaded the clip wrong. If it starts jamming, pull the clip out, using your finger push the next bullet's tip in the upward position until it is in the clip at the maximum angle pointing up. I found out that's what's been the problem with mine. I haven't had a jam since then, and that was about 4-5 months ago.
I hit the the target on every shot, the middle circle more than once. Also, in this video the rifle was moving around a little bit, due to the way I was holding it. However I felt more comfortable holding it the way I did in the video, then I do holding it normally. Oh, well, I hit the center more than once, so that's decent aiming.
Great choice of rifle! In this particular video I was shooting Federal Hollow Points. I don't like them as much as the Remington Thunderbolt ammunition though. As far as FTF's. I have had only a couple, but it was just because the bullet wasn't pointed up correctly in the clip. Just pulled the clip out, fixed the next bullet, put it back in, and shot just fine. So, nothing major. I really love shooting this rifle though. One of my favorites. It's accurate, and smooth.
ahh they gave me hell for my first shooting video to... lol

tinsel15 3 years ago
the 30rd Banana clip does every once in awhile.

I own a Rugger 10/22 ive had since 1990...great rifle also...I think people talk up the 10/22 as it has been around longer so more fond childhood memories and also lots of customizations available for that rifle...The 597 has not been around very long but i find it more comfortable to hold, dead accurate, very reliable and a better price

same here, it is very accurate, and comfortable, and if you take care of it, it shoots very well.

I have that rifle and it jams like crazy.Yeah keep your eyes open and youll shot better
Okieduckman 3 years ago
wow, that's crazy that it jams.
