hi great to see the astoria in bundoran there there as a little boy i first seen big tom and the mainliners also port there was pontoon dance hall WASNT THE devil supposed to be seen there at one time the priest at the time said in the homiley , THERS NO NEED FOR THE DEVIL TO APPEAR ATALL BECAUSE THERE IS MORE THAN ENOUGH OF HIS WORKS GOING ON IN THE WORLD
Having never being to any of these dancehalls I feel we the younger generation have missed out - remember the excitement of my brothers and sisters getting ready to go but they were all gone by the time I was allowed.
@fatcat1949 We froze and sweated in equal measure and met some great people along with promoters who tried to rob us blind but we had fun and made what we thought then was huge money. Sadly it went as quickly as it cam..lol
The way things are at home and with the scourge of emigration it might not be such a bad idea to open a ballroom in London again. Thanks for the memories.
Superb 5***** Brings back memories of some great times. So sad that so many of the ballrooms are now gone , The National Ballroom in Parnell Square was one of my favourite. Thanks for posting

Pontoon! ...The dancing mecca of the west!
Couldn't wait to get the "western people" to see who was playing there at the weekend.

A singer who doesn't get the praise he deserves. As for the dancehalls where better that the Portland in Glasgow and Derrybeg Donegal.
