I also think that the movement should begin to form a loose set of goals that everyone can agree to. I do not think these goals should be framed as 'demands' because this word is too strident and coercive. A set of goals will allow individuals to focus their energy and to organize at the grass roots without caving into a more authoritive agenda. Leadership has to take place at the grass roots, within each individual, and a list of demands would work against the movement.
I'm beginning to wonder when the Federal Government will step in and begin to protect the democratic rights of these protestors. Ten or fifteen Federal Marshals looking out for the rights of the protestors would do more to insure public safety than all the police in New York. We saw this same kind of abuse in the old south during segregation. The local police and the courts were working against change. Where's Obama? Where's justice?

If the protestors would listen to the police....the police wouldnt have to take the measures they do. And all it takes is ONE person to threaten of police officer and that officer has every right to get defensive and use force. I also think that the movement should begin to form a loose set of goals that everyone can agree to. I do not think these goals should be framed as 'demands' because this word is too strident and coercive. A set of goals will allow individuals to focus their energy and to organize at the grass roots without caving into a more authoritive agenda. Leadership has to take place at the grass roots, within each individual, and a list of demands would work against the movement.

I'm beginning to wonder when the Federal Government will step in and begin to protect the democratic rights of these protestors. Ten or fifteen Federal Marshals looking out for the rights of the protestors would do more to insure public safety than all the police in New York. We saw this same kind of abuse in the old south during segregation. The local police and the courts were working against change. Where's Obama? Where's justice?
