Great video - I'm going to try this out as I've had similar problems. Seems obvious once you say it but if you hadn't I'd probably have carried on bashing my head against the proverbial wall.
@timianity Trust me when I say: "I KNOW THE FEELING!!!" I originally had the footage that I use as a demo clip in this video on 'BetaCam-SP'. But I lent the tapes to someone who never returned them & was left with just the VHS copy I used to view over & over again.(i.e.: 4 editing purposes). So I 1st thought it was due to my VHS copy, then my DV converter, & the list+weeks went on with myself banging my head again a wall till I researched it 4 weeks! then got the answer & made this tutorial...
@timianity I know, I know… I'm soooo late getting back to you! Sorry about that :-(
Just wanted to say: It was quite sometime & plenty of 'Head-Banging Against Wall!!' research before I found the answers that are now within this tutorial!
good tutorial although I'm still trying to figure out how the problem starts. I know it can be because of the difference of the frame rate between the timeline and captured clip or possibly different field dominats. I'm currently editing a short i shot with a Canon XH-A1 in 24F and my timeline and capture is at 24fps on FC but i still get interlace problems
@mrxxbrian I'm Sooooo sorry 4 not getting back to U sooner then now… I figure you've figured out the answer to your Q within your comment by now, but I'll reply just the same… 1st, to answer you with a 100% confidence, I'd need to know exactly what U mean by: "but i still get interlace problems". (i.e.: on output, viewing on your monitor or external NTSC monitor?, etc…)
@mrxxbrian But 1st instinct is to reply with: Take an approx. 1 min. clip where you are having the problems to use as a test, make a new 'Time-Line' just for the test, & play around with the filter within your Editing software(By the way, what are you using? FCP, Premier, Mac, PC, etc.?) that controls your fields & see what looks best. Again, as I say in this tutorial, "If viewing the vid clips on your Mac via FCP, then you have to reduce the size of the CANVAS window 2 '50%'
@mrxxbrian Then, as long as you're using FCP, you should be able to see your clip without any missing field or, if you prefer the phrasing, you should be able to see your video clip correctly. When you have time, post me a reply letting me know if & how you fixed the problem...
OK, well 1st thing I did was did a quick search on the web for your camera because I'm not unfamiliar with that Canon model (Canon XH-A1 in 24F) I take it the camera your using is the pre-HD otherwise you would not be asking me this question yeah? Well I'm running out of Char.s to use for more of a real reply then above so I'm going to send you a message via YouTube (uhhhhh.... email I guess you'd call it) Look for it in you YT in-box & please let me know what you think.
ohhhhhhh, thank you sooooooooooo much please please tell me how to make a preset, i always have to redo an effect over and over on each project! this would really help! :|
Sure, will get to that soon. I just got back from my vacation & of course I caught a cold or something so right now I only feel like sleeping + my voice is kind of raspy.. But I get on that this week sometime...
Hmmm... Maybe you can send me a video showing me your "hardware" set up + explaining the situation. I feel this would help me more then a text message... I'll be sure to view it with in 2 or 3 days(latest) if not as soon as you send it, & reply a.s.a.p.
P.S.: You said "LIVE FEED"... Which console are you talking about? Are you hooking it up to a TV that is Interlaced or a newer HDTV? Is the console even able to send out a HD signal?
Let me know the details & I'll do my best to make a short video within the next little while that might help. But please give me as much of the details of your set up as you can 1st.
Well, it really depends on what exactly you mean. Are you referring to a "Interlaced" signal? If so, in whatever digital editing software your using to edit your clips find where the "De-Interlace" filter is & use it. Then if your not a 100% satisfied with the result(i.e.: maybe some of your fields are missing so your not seeing all the frames you want to see) full around with the "De-Interlace" filter settings. 1st & Most important! Make a copy of your project just in case... Hope that helps

@mrxxbrian Opps! I meant to say: "Set your CANVAS WINDOW IN FCP @ 100%, NOT 50%" Sorry about that…
Happy Holidays by the way :-)
