Oh my. What to say....therewas good effort made just not good enough....pitch probls throughout. And Sarah sounded like a child and coalhouse sounded like he was trying to hard to sound like Stokes but.....ah idk.
I have to say that the Producers of this show must be stone deaf. You think some in the crew or orchestra would have jumped up and said " We can't show this,, these performers suck" my god there are many many of great actors who would have made your heart skip a beat with this beautiful music. Black theatre takes another giant leap, backwards. My god. Find a note any note. He's so flat, he's sharp. You are not Brian Stokes Michell, Be yourself. Pat Boone is Blacker than these two. Represent FCS
I think it would be pretty f-ing unprofessional for a crew member to say that a show needs to be canceled because of talent. Just because this one actor is not the strongest singer/actor doesn't mean that he represents the downfall of "black theatre." Wth does that mean anyway?
If you didn't know, Ragtime is opening a revival on Broadway in October. This is a very challenging show. If this is High School, you should be very proud of your accomplishments with such difficult music.
yes he was pitchy at points and the orchestra had issues too... but the song is still such a powerful one that I found myself moved by there obvious intent to do the best they knew how! brava to both!
i have to disagree with some of you...i think he was wonderful...very nice for coalhouse (who in my eyes has a very rough sounding and spiritual voice)...i really liked it...they sounded good together too
I have to agree, his voice is not too strong. Then again it is live theatre and what can he do? He was probably tired. He says words silly sometimes, but shes very poised.
okay so i agree his mic is too loud. He wasn't using an English accent. So i dont know where that is coming from. And i dont know WHATTTTT you're talking about with the lack of pitch. Yeah there were a couple questionable spots, but you make it sound it was complete trash. That's far from true. It sounded extremely nice towards the end. Sheesh. Criticism is one thing, but being harsh is uncalled for.
1. Coalhouse isn't English so there's no need for an English accent.
2. Are these highschoolers? Or is this just a town with not alot of musical talent because what the HELL? Coalhouse is overmiked which is apparently meant to make up for a total lack of pitch. Those notes are PAINFUL.
love this play

Wheels of a Dream is a great song and can be extremely powerful and moving when with strong singers.

Good song... the voice is a bit weak though. Nothing some voice training can't fix!

It's not an English accent. It's over-enunciation, which sound better without a mic.

Oy,
1. Coalhouse isn't English so there's no need for an English accent.
2. Are these highschoolers? Or is this just a town with not alot of musical talent because what the HELL? Coalhouse is overmiked which is apparently meant to make up for a total lack of pitch. Those notes are PAINFUL.
