wow, how much was that publicly owned helicopter and it epic failed, and how much was that privately owned cell phone and it epic won??? private sector does everything better than the public sector....even saving lives.....thanks for making that abundantly clear Google, maybe now people will start to understand how inefficient and ineffective the gov't is when compared to what the private sector could do.
@wolverineks private sector demands inefficiency to make money. In the grand scheme of things...gov't is the lesser of two evils.
If big pharma/security (private) wasn't running the USA right now...america wouldn't be in the middle east...wasting lives and hundreds of billions of tax payers money (which could have went to education and maybe some more of these helicopters).
so yeah. gov't is better...but USA is so far gone that its too little too late anyways.
@salakast When a ad is streamed on YouTube, it's actually another video on YouTube itself, so everytime this video shows up as an ad, it counts as a view. That explains the 1.5 million views and 29 comments.
The footage is real and taken on a go pro camera attached to the winch operators helmet. All 28 winch rescues we performed that day were recorded. We were so glad to have saved so many lives that terrible day. The family shown at the start were the first people we rescued.
This is one of those stories that really pulls the heart-strings and may bring tears to some. For me, it was both. I was a world away from the devastation, I constantly thought about good friends down under knowing they were in some danger zones and I was glued to articles on updates and video taken. Amid all of the devastation, at least there are some positive stories to share, however there were far more devastating stories. This story is bittersweet, great ending, but many weren't so lucky.
How did they film such high-quality footage during the disaster? Is this just a really good reenactment? Multiple camera angles and scene seemingly still flooded.
@withfilesfrom I don't think this was staged at all. I was captivated by this video and I saw that there was an interview with Mark Kempton and it turns out the video is a part of protocol when doing rescues like this. Absolutely incredible, there is other footage they had taken from the other 28 rescues and it's equally shocking and heartwarming. I'd suggest taking a look. Look under search for Mark Kempton, Senior Helicopter Pilot.
are none of you actually noticing that google is using this tragedy as a fucking advertisement? thanking the rescue workings and creating awareness about this incident is one thing but using this event as publicity for google maps? such fucking bullshit.
the video made me so sad until the rescue worker started talking about google maps. then i just had the biggest wtf face for the rest of the video.
I liked this video because it shows how google actually saved lives unlike some of other less google related ones but I do miss the old search stories
I hunted this down just to like it.
