Everyone is focused on fixing the school system, nobody is asking why we need a school system at all, kids could be engineers and scientists at 16 years old if they were allowed to choose what they they're interested in learning from a young age instead of being forced into a 12 year system that teaches nothing other than how to take standardized tests which has zero carry-over to the real world.
People need to understand that the public school system is not about education, it's about money.
I don't think you can shift all the blame on the educational system or the government. Schools are one side of the coin. The other side is the community where these kids live. You can have the best schools but the drug culture and fucked up communities (single parent households, neglectful/abusive parents etc) will draw the kids back in anyways.
Where the hell did you get that info? American universities are very good (like Harvard etc) But schools suck some serious ass. Especially state schools or how they call them...
i'm not advocating a call 4 communism but i don't think America can call itself the "Land of Opportunity" w/out supplying a basic tenet 2 its citizens. more money should be flooded 2 schools in need regardless of race 2 assure that every American child at least has the chance 4 success. give em the tools & then let true competition commence. There's no such thing as free education and this is why it fails the public system. Public schools were made for one thing: to keep AMERICA at its knees. We can't even compete with 3rd world country students because the aim was to keep the majority of student dependent on the "system". Private school doesn't fare too much better either, but its a heck-of-a-lot better than public school. The system fails because the system was never legitimate to begin with. Education is not really free.

Despite the fact that we have had oppressive leaders who have subdued us, education is still the only way out of poverty, and the parents push there kids a lot on that, despite the fact that our educational system is much tougher and brutal than here, people still go to school in droves.
