Thanku for your review and it was very informative. I have a question if i was to do an professional job with makeup what would be a good suggestion of balance between the sigma brush and mac. Im just starting out and i want to have all the supplies needed but mac is very costty so im trying to find other alternatives without cuttting quality, Thanku

the reason your brushes are all shedding is probably because of the way you store them when you're drying them, if you store them straight up and down after you've washed them and they're still wet. because this is the only occurence ive heard of someone complaining that their mac AND their sigma brushes shed. just sayin. :)

actually, the 209 brush is for eyeliner, mac is split into 3 parts. 100 is face brushes, 200 is eye brushed, and 300 is lip brushes.

The 209 brush is not a lip liner brush! It's a eye liner brush :-)

Now, this was a really good review! ... I was a bit sceptical about a lot of reviews done by other people because sigma was sending the brush sets out to them for free, you know... and I believe it's hard not to be influenced by that when doing a review.

I live in the netherlands and mac is quite unavailable here, I really want mac brushes but I cant get them online anywhere so is sigma really just as good cause its not a money issue with me but sigma ships internationally. or should i put some more effort in getting mac brushes, cause again its NOT a money issue?

I think it is personal choice- I think some of the brushes are great and others I perfer the MAC ones. I would suggest if the money isnt an issue- to buy the sigma set to start with and as you can you can buy the MAC ones that you dont like the sigma versions of! :o) Enjoy!

Nice review Lisa. Based on your review only the 187 & 168 appealed to me (& quite possibly a redesigned 109), however, the longer handle length on the Sigma brushes is a real turn-off to me. Like you, I love the BE liner brush instead of the 219.

i'm pretty sure it's a lip brush because of the way it's angled inward.

while an eyeliner brush is either angled one way or just really thin.

I have used all of them and I have been using them since teh end of July while I have been away! They are great brushes for teh price, but they are not mac exacts!

thanks for a great review as always, i do appreciate your honesty. i have almost all mac brushes, but we're alike in the fact that if i bought a good brush that i like & works well and mac has one, i dont find the need to buy it cause i already have a great one. i dont spend the money.

My interest in makeup has somewhat increased recently and youtube offers a wealth of information and ideas (especially your channel!)! One thing I've never given much thought to till now is makeup brushes - and I never knew there were so many different kinds argh!!! Can I ask if when I buy a decent set of brushes, do they come with instructions as for what each brush's purpose is?

The sigma ones come with an explination- most others dont but the MA at the counter or store can help you there!

it is one of my least favorite brushes! :o( It is just not the best they make! The 109 is much better for powders and liquids!

Check out reviews of the MAC 138 on makeupalley. Great reviews. I love this brush for cream foundation & for powder bronzer application -- so much so that I have 3 of them. Also, gossmakeupartist did a video on using the 138 for cream foundation. For liquids I like the 187. My problem with the 109 is the extreme shedding & breakage which drives me nuts. I hate picking hairs off my face -- yuck! You'd think MAC could have rectified this shedding problem in all these years!

My SS150 doesn't spread out like that. It's identical to the MAC 150.

And, my SS168 is the exact same as the MAC one.

I also bought mine in March. So, they probably have changed the way they make some, just like when they changed the SS187 to be more dense.

I got the SS187 and SS188. They both bled a bluish tinge even after washing 4 or 5 times :-(

I also find the handles way too long for my taste. I ended up barely using them. My cousin also got the SS109 and eventually just gave it away since she didn't care for it either.

Great review! I am glad you are honest about your opinion. I have learned from experience, I will end up getting MAC brushes anyway, so might as well make the investment rather than having tons of "dupes".

I have this Sigma set and for a starter brush set it's very good. The only other brush from MAC you would need to add to this collection might be the 217. IMO nothing compares to the MAC 217

How long have you had your Mac Brushes? Have they always shedded from first use or as time goes on it sheds? The reason Im asking is cause if Sigma sheds and they are somewhat new but you have had your MAC brushes for a few years then there is no comparison and i only mean that in shedding wise. Make sense? lol! Maybe I confused the question. Dont you have to special clean your sigma brushes?

I have had some for 7 plus years and some are brand new! you should special clean all makeup brushes so you do not get bacteria in them!

thanks for your honest opinion! i was debating whether to get these brushes because i hear so many reviews. the only thing i don't like is that most of the people that make reviews are affiliated with the sigma company. they have to give them good reviews because they get the brushes for free.
