These look to me more like indentations than raised structures. Perhaps these are really mining excavations. The ridged, stair-case pattern is often found at such excavations. It's very hard to believe these would have gone unnoticed for so long if they are ancient pyramids. And what the hell is Fallout 3?! OK, Wikipedia time... OK, some old game with crappy graphics. Clearly, very, very pre-MW3!

@HajeSortra: Except that China indicates there are documents to suggest they are burial mounds... so why all the speculation that isn't what they are? If anyone would know, wouldn't it be the Chinese? The fact that the pyramids in Egypt are ALSO burial mounds should lend support to China's claims. This is their culture, their history. It is part of a culture that is still alive, so why not believe the people within that culture?

@ravenrabbitt Except that the pyramids in Egypt, specifically at the Giza site, are NOT burial mounds - no bodies have ever been found inside them. There are absolutely NO documents that say these Chinese pyramids are burial mounds, the burden of proof lies with those who claim they are. These are facts, not speculation.

Technically, pyramids in Egypt were glorified burial mounds. Whole royal families were buried within along with various servants and slaves. Given the elaborate nature of many burial mounds in the Americas made by native tribes... it isn't that far fetched that these are also burial mounds.

I've been living in China for the past two years.

I'm not going to say that it IS what they are, but I can say that things that look exactly like these are used for farming.

More surface area per square metre of ground, but more importantly a vastly more efficient irrigation system.

It is odd though, usually they aren't used unless they benefit from both these things, but in such sparsely populated areas, there really is no such space benefit, and they're more expensive to construct.

Every single one of those is a trough/depression/excavation point in the ground. They are either to be used as mining sites, or as the place where a new structure/building will be put in place. Likely structures to be placed there; factories, mines, power plants. All of these obviously need a deep foundation.

I would like to mention that pyramid building is known to exist in many other countries besides china and egypt. They were used as ground markers to track the stars; they were a place of worship to be used as a temple for making offerings and sacrafices; they were used as tombs or buriel grounds; a place for meditation; they were used as landing mounts for sky vehicles.
