heard him 43 years ago, still love his guitar work amazin' ..underated amongst most blues players eg. EC, SRV, Buddy, BB, Page, Green but he has nothing to hold back to me right up there with the best of them ...slide, pickin', boogie, slow blues doesn't matter one of the most versatile stringman who has ever picked up the instrument!! like the "surf" groove at end
Glad to see so many great comments here about JW. I saw him 40 years ago and hearing this or anything he plays still gives me a jolt like it did back then. I don't have words to describe the the good times I've had listening to him.
and to think metal guitar players jack themselves off to a metronome for years and never end up half as fast and melodic as johnny. technical expectations and popular opinion are killing music.
Mercy hot licks......there are many great guitar players......but faster than Johnny ??........well... Johnny turns the light switch off and jumps under the covers before the room goes dark !!!\
@radpcdrums Amen to that....SRV couldnt even run on the same track as this cat...saw both several times.SRV was good(with moments of REALLY good),but not an original by any stretch of the imagination...JDW the III on the other hand is 100% his own melting pot.
I saw him at the Beachum in orlando 1990 or 91 play this exact song combo. He blew the place away!! The most amazing guitar player ever!! He deserves a Grammy more then a lot of people that have received them After the concert everyone there was in a daze saying "holy shit!!" a lot!! Johnny will always be my favorite!!!
I saw him in 1991 in Orlando and he ended that show too with this same combo. During 'Used to Love Her' he had the place hopping then like flipping a switch he had everybody mesmerized during 'Rumble'. What an amazing talent. HoF material without a doubt.
Like I've said before, Johnny deserves the Rock Hall of Fame--MUCH more so than so many recent nominees. I think it might take a MASSIVE write-in campaign. How about it everyone? Interesting comment(s) about Europeans liking Johnny. Looking back, you can see it was his European tours in the 80's & into the 90's that really drew the biggest audiences. Americans were already sliding into crap. There are several versions of Johnny doing "All Over Now"--check them out--changed with the years.
@DonARen1950 Man whats up with the R.R.hall of shame?I wouldnt wish that on a sooner dog. This shit is in smithsonium where it belongs. Man this aint the dooby brothers.Once the hall of shame gets it its raped diluted and comercialised.please!
Show me someone who can sing while playing, solo like they got three hands, and spit out enough energy on the stage for two grown men, and i'll show you a liar. 'Cause there's only one, and that's Johnny Winter.
Always, always, always loved Johnny's version of "It's all over now" because he puts so much energy into it! Love the Link Wray as well. I still consider Johnny as one of the most under-appreciated guitar players in the world. Rock on brother Johnny!!!
No asshole, we do not realize and or how would or could we, you can sure bet I could care less now if your an indication of a typical fan, I have never heard the name Link Ray to bad your comment turned me off from checking him out, after watching this video posting and and that's all you can say it tells allot about your mental mentality.
Even europe has enough 3-chord-guitarists. Why should we appreciate a further white trash icon.
BTW Link Wray has lived in Denmark for his last years where he received social services and medical aid for free. An appreciation he would never received in God's own country.
Yeah, I saw Link play in Blawnox a few years ago and he had this redhead, white-skinned, big-boned chick there with that was half his age (obviously from Denmark). Anyway, every time somebody tried to shoot some video or pix from the audience, she would get up and start bitching and yelling at the people to stop. Her performance was almost as enjoyable as Link's.
Looks like health care is finally coming to the "land of the free"...
Where are all the JW fans on this one, my goodness it does not get any better, every rock/blues lover in the world should see this rare clip, I mean this posting sums up his career, brilliant, It just does not get much better than what you see here, send this clip to all your email budies and lets keep Johnny going, he is after all "still alive and well"....

I'm sorry, but Johnny Winter is the baddest motherfucker of all time. Stevie Ray, you are a close second, but unfortunately, "you can't touch this!"

Johnny Winter, in his most humble way, has told most guitarists to just about hang it up with this display of talent. He is "The Man!"

Was it The Station? It was one of the two. Regardless, his talent is undeniable. Pity the unbelievers.

Do any of you assholes realize that the 2nd half of this video is a tribute to Link Wray!?! I don't see his name mentioned anywhere here!
What's the problem, are you all Europeans?

Your grammar sucks bad enough to prove that you are probably another Eurotrash loser pretending to be an American that "loves the blues".
