@tx130c It's from the cd "Stars and Stripes Vol. 1" by the Beach Boys, where they had all kinds of guest singers- this one was with country singer Doug Supernaw, which I thought was great. Colin Raye also did a wonderful job on "Sloop John B".
On June 24th it'll be the 100th anniversary of the Texas being laid down for construction!
That's cool! I wanted to take the elevator up the Washington Monument, but the line was so long and I didn't want to waste my time there standing in a line! Going to the top of the San Jacinto Monument would be cool too!
Yeah! Texas is full of so many great things! I've gone there more than any other place outside of Oregon/Washington/Idaho. My only problem is the heat! Being from the Oregon Coast as 70 degree day is about as warm as I want!
Those are some awesome pictures with that great music! Who sings that??? You make videos quite the same as mine! Pictures that you love with music you can apreciate! Most of the videos on youtube are people talking about crap for an Hour lol! I guess not many people can apreciate videos like mine! Except you and a few others! Ive always wanted to visit Houston! A place called Freeport near the sea!
LOL! Thanks! There is a lot of neat stuff around Houston! In fact, Texas is full of great stuff-especially San Antonio!!!
"Long Tall Texan" is a Beach Boys song sung by Doug Supernaw with the Beach Boys singing backup. My favorite singer, Clint Black sings "I'll Take Texas"
LOL! Yeah, I grew up fascinated by them all & still am!
The Missouri is at Pearl Harbor/the Wisconsin at Norfolk, Virginia/the New Jersey at Camden, NJ across the river from Philadelphia/the Alabama is at Mobile, AL-she sheltered 18 employees & their families during hurricane Katrina & was damaged & had an 8 degree list which has been corrected to 3 degrees as repairs continue.
The North Carolina is at Wilmington, NC/the Massachusetts at Fall River, MA/the Texas, of course, is at Houston & is the only Dreadnaught style battleship left. The only other battleship left in the world is the 107 year old pre-dreadnaught, British built, Japanese Mikasa which led the fleet at the Battle of Tsushima. No other battleships are left in the world! Sad so many were scrapped!
Well its not exactly a battleship, mainly classed as a cruiser, but its the oldest steel-hulled American pre-drednaught warship, the USS Olympia. Located in Philadelphia it is a nice exhibit.
Yeah!!! I saw it!!! Such a beautiful ship!!! We had the Battleship Oregon here- it was of the same time period, but in World War II they gave it for the war effort and it was used to transport munitions. After the war it was sent to Japan to be scrapped and probably turned into razor blades! So many great historic ships were just thrown away!!! I'm really glad we have a handful left to see!!!
No Actually it is a battleship, been classed as one since they lay down her keel, as well as her sister BB-34 New York they were both some of the bigger Battleships of their time, first battleships to carry guns 14 inchs and bigger.
I thought at first he was saying the Texas wasn't a battleship too, but then I realized he was just talking about the Olympia, that even though it's not a battleship like this, but that it's still a great old warship to see.
LoL. Yeah I guess I could have worded it differently to avoid confusion, but yeah I was talking about the Olympia. I know the Texas is a BB. I've got to walk her decks a couple times as well.
I have that ability to say one thing but have it sound like something else too. In my head I know exactly what I want to say, it just doesn't always come out right!
i always think of a trucker in his cap riding along in the night in the rain on a long haull journey playing things like this, i sometimes find a little on the radio (not great reception) and i like to have a play for a bit :)
Thanks for sharing, Rog! Looks like it was a good time for all involved! Funny to think that there was a 17yo T-DUB not too far from you when you filmed this. You may have even walked right past him :D
i know the song at the beginning is Long tall Texan but who sings this version great video too the USS Texas is Beast

When I was coming back from San Antonio, I stopped here.
It has the fastest elevator I've ever been on.

The Long Tall Texan song was first done by the Beach Boys. This was from a tribute album to them and they sang backup on it.
I figured for this I had to use songs with Texas in them.
: )
