Loneliness and wonderment combined. Lovely. I deeply apologize to whoever composed this song for making it my ringtone. Had to do it. When my phone rings now I become hypnotized and forget to answer it.
i had this piece on loop on my headphones for almost 3hrs as i was travelling from London Stanstead to Oxford by bus. This was my first 3hrs in the UK and emotions connected with this piece will live forever. :) Thank u, Squarepusher.
The moment I saw this scene....with this piece of music.......damn man. What a feeling of overwhelming solitude, but magnificent appreciation of life in the city below.
Ha I just figured it out this music is meant to represent the feeling one gets when they finally get the wonka bar they were promised as a kid...all is forgiven, all is perfect...(followed by cathartic sigh)
I love this movie, it has many great scenes in it including this one. I love the music throughout the movie. Before this scene, she stubbed her toe really bad and as you can see, her feet is fine, lol.
I loved this scene. It captures her alienation, her lonliness, her sense of feeling rejected by her husband, yet it captures the happiness she feels overlooking the city, knowing that somewhere at there is the key to satisfaction, the key to happiness. Thanks for the upload! :)
this fills me with such indescribable beauty and melancholy...Squarepusher is one of the most brilliant musicians alive, and this is the greatest scene ever.
This is the scene that made me fall in love with this movie. The first time I watched it I just teard up, It was exactly the way I felt, The way she is looking over the city, alone and numb. I've never seen a movie that was able to show what depression feels like. I will always treasure this movie. Thanks do much for putting up this scene!
The only music that seems to come close to the emotional intensity is the harmonica in the end of the original All Quiet on the Western Front. I wouldn't even dare to compare though!
This couldnt be done better, i just watched it like 10 times, the music and how she is sitting just looking longingly out of the window is so sad, it is a perfect film.
The greatest single music cue in film. I don't know of any other that so perfectly captures the picture, the thought, and the emotion in a 45 second shot.
@timcthefilmguy I think it's a toss up between this and the scene in 28 Days Later with "The Ascension" playing. beautiful cinematography and beautiful music just like this; what do you think?
This is my favorite movie of all time.

2 people are certainly entitled to their opinions. They're also morons, but again, that would be my opinion.

@timcthefilmguy I agree. I think it's film's true art form, before dialogue was introduced and filmmakers experimented with music and cinematography.

@timcthefilmguy sorry I meant "An Ending (ascent)". the clip of the empty highways and windmill etc.
evrgood 6 months ago
@timcthefilmguy agree. But check out some 21 grams scenes, or Kieslowski's "blue". Music really works great in their films!
