I've got a 1991 Diamondback Interval TG. It's cassette is a little too small aka to hard to push, but once you really start pushing it goes faaaaaast.
it depends on how tall the woman is. Since my allez, as show in this video, is a 60cm then it will work for someone about 5'11" to about 6'3" I'd say. If you search Google and look up "bicycle sizing chart" you should be able to find the proper bike size for you.
Just bought a 1994 specialized allez epic pro with a lugged carbon fiber frame, its gonna be a great bike, one of the first ever carbon fiber frames I think, anyway specialized bikes = awesome; too bad this guy has the down tube shifters...that, Sucks
I actually really love the down tube shifters on it, they don't bother me at all being down there. Lugged carbon fiber frame huh? that sounds awesome, have fun with it!
True! People always say how they love STI shifters so much more and how they don't like downtube shifters. I'm so used to them it's automatic for me to reach down and shift, I don't even think about it anymore. I personally prefer downtube shifters now
So I actually have a chance to buy one of these... except w/ Ultegra components and new wheels... guy seemed really nice and is asking $480. You seem to know a lot about this bike... do you think this is a good price? And how has the bike been working for you?
My ride on it seemed really smooth! Much nicer than the old steel bike I have right now... let me know!
basically any component made my shimano is great so the Ultegra components should be good. The new wheels are also a major plus. If the guy would take $450 that would be awesome but if he's firm on that price I say it's still good. How does the frame look? My frame didn't have any scratches or any marks on it... super clean! So when I bought my bike I was basically buying the frame. I payed $250 and had to get a new rear derailleur and head set... so that's pretty good.
my bike has been working great, the frame is nice and light and surprisingly strong. In my area there are quite a few pot holes and what not but my bike does fine. So basically I say go for it if the bike doesn't show any significant wear. If you have any other questions just let me know, I'm always down to talk bikes. Peace
thanks for the vid. I just bought a 2009 specialized allez sport this afternoon for 1300. Toga bike shop in Nyack, ny said it will be in in 3 days. This will be my very first road bike and I'm 37 years old. I hope I made a good choice.
I believe you made a very good choice, there are many great road bikes out there but you can't go wrong with Specialized. I don't know what type of components the sport comes with but I would up-grade to Shimano 105 or better, if it doesn't have something from that group already. You'll be fine with whatever components it has right now though. Once it arrives try and get some video of it and let me know, I'd like to see it. Have fun!
Thats pretty expensive actually, I just got a new one from my local bike store for £750. Either way, it's a great bike if you want to get in to road biking
> Thanks for the info, I'll check him out for sure. Yes, woohoo indeed for
> lifetime warranty haha
Yes, but ONLY if you're the original owner.
Still, with modern bikes, everything is pretty easy to do it yourself now. Bike frames now come with a very easy to install fork, since it's basically integrated.
I should also tell you, Sheldon Brown died last year. He was probably the most famous bicycle mechanic in the world.
Incidentally, I like standard EggBeater pedals on my roadbike.
Yes they are, I love riding around. Not to mention you can go a lot faster than cars sometimes. I'm also going to be building a fixed gear in the near future. Good luck with your roadie search
Thanks, I love the down tube shifters! If I had the proper down tube shifters, the shifters are for a 6 speed but I have a 7 speed cassette, it would be a lot better. Not to mention my bike is actually set up for a 8 speed cassette so... yeah. But I love down tube shifters, they never miss a shift when they are set up properly. How do you like your brake lever shifters? Do they ever miss shift?
it doesnt shift well from 1st chain ring to 2nd chain ring but any other shift is great and doesnt miss. sometimes i accidentally pull the brake when pulling sideways but thats operator error.
Cool, sounds good. All road bikes that I've owned were always down tube shifters so I don't really know any different. I've ridden friends bikes that were like yours but that's it. I'm thinking about just yankin' the front derailleur and swapping it from a 3 speed up front to just one sprocket because I never use all 3 speeds anyway.
Nice Allez! I've just send a video of my 91 Allez.

oh nice, I don't have anything original on my bike. The previous owner bought it as a frame and put everything on it, some good some so-so.

If you're going to modify your bike, look up Sheldon Brown on the internet. He covers everything with regard to maintenance as well as upgrades.
I just rebuilt my entire bike after my frame broke, but lifetime warranty for Specialized frames. Woohoo!

Thanks for the info, I'll check him out for sure. Yes, woohoo indeed for lifetime warranty haha

If you do this, you should change the rear derailler to a short cage.

i wanted 2 but it only came in 3x8 or a fixie which is like slightly larger than a 2 and like a 6 in the back
