Arvid, I admire your words. It takes a lot of guts to do that in front of everybody. I probably would have kept quiet and went along, but then, I'd just be "a part of it" all anyway, right?
@FellowTownsman You don't understand at all clearly. Playing a German song to him was the same as conforming. It would have been a subtle way of allowing the mass murders, even though he had nothing to do with it. His objection was his own way of speaking out against injustice. If you take it as him just not playing a "song", you will never get the deeper message...
@MannyXj1 Hang on a minute, the story is set in 1930's Germany, is it not? The mass murders were yet to happen if you know your history. So nice to be able to look ahead, but they wouldnt of had an idea at that time.
And the guys that made the song request werent Nazi's, but Airforce, big difference.
@FellowTownsman No the story takes place in 1939. The holocaust murders started in 1938. If you listen early on in the movie the do mention people being taken work camps and such... And I didn't say the pilots were Nazis... I do know the difference!
@moastytoasty54 Robert Sean Leonard is so great in this, I don't know why people are so obsessed with hotness. In a movie (or at least a good movie) acting is what counts.
I admire Arvid's courage. I would be too frightened to openly oppose the Reich in public like that! I think I would probably work for the underground, but to do something like he did! Wow!
So I challenge any of you Americans to rise up to tyarnny if you see it because the 21st century police state is upon you. Just be observant to what is going on around you....peace.
@ssleidl No it's not, but thanks for being observant. And if there was, there are already militias set up across America because there's been a fear of martial law. We got this under control.
you're watching this in music class because they're brain washing you. all advertising is good advertising next you'll be taking field trips to the denver airport
anima144 wikipedia defines Faust:..is the protagonist of a classic German legend who makes a pact with the Devil in exchange for knowledge. Faust's tale is the basis for many literary, artistic, cinematic, and musical works, such as those by Christopher Marlowe, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Thomas Mann,...is often used today to describe an unsavory, ultimately self-destructive arrangement; the proverbial "deal with the devil". It can also refer to a unquenchable thirst for knowledge.
Yeah, we are currently watching this in music class... to learn about Swing/Jazz Music and Other Jewish Artists, this is an interesting and true movie I must say.
soldaten...You know that book in the bookseller's shop? The one that he keeps the forged birth certificates? The book is about Faust. Are you familiar with the Faust book? It is about the price of selling your soul to the devil. Beware of your soul soldaten...it is in danger.
This film even shows Wagner as being a Nazi... What?
This film brings up German propaganda but the film itself is unfortunately propaganda.
It shows ONLY bad things about the NSDAP. Not the economic miracle, only brutality. Not unemployment going from 6 million (over 20% of the workforce) to almost zero, in stead they just show more brutality.
I must disagree, Hitler was very inspired by the writings of Wagner, who was a vocal antisemite. This is a known fact. Hitler's Nazi party would never have been constructed in the way that it was, if it had not been for Wagner.
I despise the nazis, socialism, and what they did to the jewish people.
However, the economic miracle, engineering feats, and complete unification of the formerly-crushed German people (WW1, Treaty of Versailes) is undeniable.
Everything has it's pros and cons. Nazis were no different.
Everything has it's pros and cons, but Hitler's achievements for Germany even come close to the level of his atrocities. The price the German people paid for economic prosperity and the autobahn was much too high.
They were great for Germany, but they do not 'come close to the level of his atrocities.' Who cares if he made the lives of some slightly better if he was directly responsible for the deaths of millions and indirectly responsible for millions more? Economic prosperity is on a whole other level to life and death.
love this movie I was told to watch this for history and it makes a lot of sense like at 5:37 for example when he talls on his dad. Many people joined just to irritate their parents of complained about them just to get rid of them. The HJ gave the youth more power than they needed or could handle. I like how they showed him trying to deal with all the different views because the propaganda was so effective xD
Does anyone know the name of the song they are playing???

@MannyXj1 Luftwaffe pilots were Nazis...
SilenceTheSunset 7 months ago
@SilenceTheSunset Technically they are not. The German air force was established long before the Nazis were....
MannyXj1 7 months ago
@MannyXj1 Even though they were not directly connected to the Nazi Party they were required to take a oath of an allegience to Hitler
SilenceTheSunset 7 months ago
@SilenceTheSunset Correct that why I said technically.
MannyXj1 7 months ago
@MannyXj1 You said nothing of an oath and im am pretty sure taking an oath of being loyal to Hitler and the fatherland till death makes you a Nazi.
If you do not agree explain why.

@FellowTownsman I agree. I just wanted to clear the difference between German pilots and Nazis. You're right lets not argue...
