  • 3:56 was a big crash! it was preety cool too

  • they are going sooooo slow for such a powerful car!

  • it is like they never knew they were racing here they are terrible no offense what so ever

  • Wow the Gold Coast track looks different in 1994! Great upload! :D Just had the V8supercars race here about a month ago!

  • Formula 1 is the best :D

  • These are the results of running on ovals, NO DAMNED SKILLS!!!

If you need some feel free to come in Italy.

  • @JamaicaSound79 Did you overlook the fact that the first two chain reaction accidents were caused by Allesandro Zampedri? He's Italian.

  • @delta426e Don't care about jamaicasound, I'm italian too but it is normal, good drivers are everywhere, don't care about him :)

  • @JamaicaSound79

If it weren't for the fact they primarily ran on road courses and Bernie E was afraid of CART I'd agree wholehartedly.

  • :( i miss indy so so so much

  • whatever happened to having this many cars on the streets of surfers? this is what needs to be in indycar

  • fantastic video..great great era of cart..... how much i miss this racing...indycar is being fixed but it will never be like this again.

  • I loved CART in the 90's.

  • @Rathalos887 Me too :D

  • IndyCar racing is in total crap shape today.

  • wow, i never knew davy jones raced cart :P...

  • No rain tyres in Indycar in 1994?

  • Yes, they had rain tires back then. It's said several times in the clip they're racing on rain tires.

  • that track is entirely too narrow for that many cars...i love it

  • Amazing quality in that field - 4 F1 world Champions 3 past 1 future, 10 F1 drivers in total. I believe 6 Indy 500 winners and I don't know how many Champ car titles were in there but theres a fair few!

  • This is cart at surfer paradise, not the australian GP (with is for F1).

  • Actually the term Grand Prix is not used solely by F1 - CART had the Long Beach GP the Detroit GP (both carryovers from F1) the grand prix of Cleveland etc etc the correct title for this event was The Australian FAI Indycar Grand Prix

  • Because the Australian GP is a copyright, if you want. It is to Bernie Ecclestone like many gp with a country as a name. Just like French, Belgium, Canada, Brasilia... Well, the F1 tour.

But, a lot of "city"+gp exist. Pau, Long Beach, Montreal (yes, the "Montreal GP" is not the same that the "Gp du Canada"), Effeilring (o.k, that not a city but some mountains in Germany...).

  • also the Japan Grand Prix at Motegi

  • ah the good old days. The cars, sponsorships, crowds. Thanks Tony you idiot.

  • Willi T. Ribs!!! I almost forgot about him. At least he didn't run orver a corner marshall here.

  • Lol I remember FAI Insurance!

  • Those were the days, where's the racing today?

  • see emerson, what a driver!

  • I guess the Mariott hotel's lights made almost more things worse near the end of this dramatic race.

  • Fantastic! Any video about the greatest race on earth though is fantastic in my opinion! I love the track, the atmosphere, the location, everything!

  • Some of these "sloppy pilots" are some of the best racers in history. Andretti, Fittipaldi, and Villeneuve (Indy 500 winners and IndyCar champs) are also World Champions. Joining them in this event was Nigel Mansell, the 1992 World Champion. Hardly bad drivers.

  • i see formula 1 drivers drive over one another plenty and they aren't on a tight place like surfer's paradise, i think this street course was the toughest tightest venue in CART, it'd be like the Monoco GP for F1

  • finch33777, you meant to say that you watch f1 because your a mindless sheep and prefer precessonal racing to REAL racing. get it right fucko.

  • Seeing that picture of Robby Gordon from 1994, he really hasn't changed over 14 years-but still a young Robby Gordon

  • There were 14 finishers with 6 on the lead lap.

  • Good question.

  • How many finished?

  • Two crashes on both attempts to start the race, and three crashes before completing 20 laps...no wonder Alessandro Zampedri went to the IRL. With only 5 or 6 quality drivers, getting a good finish wouldn't have been hard for a lemon of a driver like him.

  • heh you realise this was before the IRL split from CART don't you :P You should look into things before letting your mouth run, you'll normally look stupid otherwise :)

Just a tip for the future

  • Yes, I know when the split happened. I was merely commenting on Zampedri's skill (or apparent lack of it). Of course today the IRL is quite strong, but back then there were few noteworthy drivers.

Not quite sure what your point is, though.

  • yeah i actually misread your post the first time :P I Just reread it then and my reply doesn't make too much sense :P I thought you were saying he left champ car to goto IRL because champ car had no good drivers at that time... i thought that was what you were going on about :P My mistake.

  • Hey, it's cool. Still can't help but wonder what IndyCar racing would look like today if the IRL hadn't been formed...

  • I think the NA$CAR guys are too scared to compete in the rain on road courses. 3 of the last 4 years, Watkins Glen qualifying has been canceled because of rain. I'd love to see Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson slip and slide around in the rain.

  • NASCAR cars are too heavy to run in the rain competitively. Prime example was Montreal 2008, everyone was 50mph off the pace and crashing everywhere.

  • Wrong I have the race, there were not many accidents. Just a couple and considering there accidents when its dry and people run out of talent doesn't mean much at the end of the day. I agree with Mayer, thanks Tony you moron... You ruined perfectly good motorsports for your stupid Nationalist views which didn't amount to much in the end,

  • sloppy

  • This finished in the dark, that's how much carnage there was.

  • That opening Indy-Car five-car connected train, is kinda funny.

  • big surpise pt crashes lol

  • fucking sweet.

  • Cool that he came back after the hit into the tires. I thought it looked like it did in the left rear suspension.

Thanks for answering the question and keep it up with the great videos.

  • Who was the winner?

  • Michael Andretti in the Reynard. He would do the same thing years later with the debut of the Swift chassis.

  • @champcar4ever

But this is why CART folded and IRL sucks. Too many retards, and not enough Reynards!

  • Michael Andretti
