Here's some of the song's that Joey Canzano a.k.a. Joey Vann sang.......("THE BEST LEAD OF THE DUPREES) "You Belong To Me"..."Ginny"..."Have You Heard".."Exodus"...I"am Yours....Where Are You?...It Isn't Fair...The Sand and The Sea...Take Me As I Am....Why Don't You Believe Me...Gone With The Wind...It's No Sin...Love Eyes...Yours....These Foolish Things. .......That was just to name a few.(believe it or not, that was just off the top of my head) there were many other great songs he sang.
Everybody forgets(or don't know) The original lead and started the group was Mike Kelly, but had no hits with them.(started in 1962 and returned in 1964).Between 1962 and 1964 ALL the "hits" were sung by the greatest lead (to me anyway) was sung by Joey Canzano stage name Joey Vann.may he R.I.P.So forget any other the lead you can come up with.
Long live the Duprees, they give us entertainment and a great time, thank the good Lord they still want to tour for us fans, it will be a sad day when they quit. Got tickets to see them in October, front row seats, can't wait. Go Tommy, Jimmy, Phil and Tony, Love Carol from Turtle Creek
Sadly, all of the originals have passed away. This group was managed by the last remaining original until he passed away a couple of years ago. So the sound was preserved through him. They are the only Duprees out there.
I want to imitate Ali! I could probably knock somebody out! Or imitate Elvis. I could probably sound just like him! Or maybe Richard Petty, I can certainly drive a racecar just as fast!
Truth in Music Bill, must have been a member of the "recording" group that made the hits. These guys are very talented indeed and put on a good show. The law is the law. If it was just recording the song, we could start our own group!!!
Personal I think this group of guys are just great. This video doesn't do them justice. I really like their slow songs: Your Belong To Me, Dreams, My Own True Love. They were wonderful on the PBS Doo Wop Show. Original or not, I enjoy their singing very much and I hope they'll be around a long time.....
well to me, despite whatever reasons the Originals no longer together (deaths, non interest, who knows?), there are ALOT of tribute groups, I am a HUGE LONGTIME Journey fan, and I love a group that imitates them, they are GREAT: the Frontie Band, they are NOT Journey but do a hell of a job, must say...
Sooooooo... to add, despite these guys not being the original group, they do a GREAT job in my book to "keep the Duprees" sound alive; it don't like, "change channel", lol, don't buy tickets.
Your right my friend ! I promote and produce original r/r events . These guys are bogus why would you want to support a look alike Paul Anka when the originals are still out there . These guys stal from the public and also from the originals still out there Mike Kelly ,hes the only one left and cant even sing as an original! Sad Your right though ,I do use tribute groups, but they by law have to say thats what they are Go to the truth in music law on the net . Support the originals check it out
yes and AS LONG as they are "trufthful" about what they are doing as a "tribute" singer or group, WHO CARES????
Like AnitaLife says below, there are generations that want to hear this music and if these people want to KEEP IT ALIVE so to speak (look at all the Elvis entertainers, they are NOT Elvis OF COURSE, but some sound and look ALOT like him) and it keeps other people who weren't of that era interested in the music, artist or group, "the sound" of THEN... as long as law abiding so be it...
I love Bowser, but Sha Na Na made a career out of singing other people's music, so I can't help but see the irony. I agree if people are honest about what they are doing and NOT taking the place of someone who belongs there (if a major group member was being excluded) then it's cool. These guys made me so happy when I heard them. Felt like I was "back then".
Hope to hear a better version of this vid. The compression makes them sound tinny.
I couldn't agree more gal... I am 45 yrs old born in 1965, I did not come from the 50's/DOO WOP era, but my parents listened to all kinds of music including this type and I grew up loving it as well... I also listened to and watched Sha Na Na, LOVED Johnnie, Santini, Bowser, all of them... and CLEARLY these guys were NOT originals, although talented enough to have been... MANY tuned in every week to listen and watch them... Johnnie SHOULD HAVE been a Major act with THAT voice... I rest my case
I KNOW they are NOT the originals, but we can't have the originals can we. However, I've seen them live twice, and they are incredible. They do NOT claim to be the originals, and they acknowledge them. They do keep the sound alive, and are bringing it to the next gen and reminding the older gen of the great music. See them before you judge!
This is a BOGUS group. Not one person is an original Dupree and they should let people know the facts. A fantastic young man by the name of Joey Vann was the lead singer of the original Duprees. He died, in Feb 1984 at the age of 41. The tenor, Joe Santollo, also died at young age of 38, in 1981, These guys have a lot of nerve trying to fool people into thinking they are THE Duprees. Not even close!!!! Shame, Shame, Shame
Why don't we just enjoy a great sounding group, who perpetuate the sound of the original group. Seeing them perform live brings back so many wonderful memories.
WELL PUT and to those who don't... DO NOT watch them on tv, change the channel, don't buy tickets to see them: SIMPLE AS THAT... get out the old records and spin them... as long as the "tribute" artists/groups are abiding by copyright laws, and don't "CLAIM" to be the Originals, there will ALWAYS be people who want to see them and listen to the music of "back then" as they "KEEP" the sound alive from way back when... ROCK ON!
@DERedhead65 I just want to say just one thing and ill stop the controversy. Ive been promoting for almost 25 years . Its not the music were against ,its the way it is brought to the public ,and displayed . Ive made many great friends in the business ,and have seen many of them not get their just rewards from their music . The only thing we ask is to make sure that the general public knows they are not the originals and should be coined as so, its your $ spend it wisely, like em or not ! AMEN
Since the early 60s, This Dupress have been great, with every member variation they've been thru! The present day group may have no original members, but they're still phoenominal! The singer Phil Granido always seems to bring out the best of every group he has sung with!!!!
Lar, my friend Mark is the musical director and piano player for the Dupree's and the drummer is also my friend Rob. I gigged with both of them many times~my band played Mark's wedding and the Dupree's were guests and performed...it was FANTASTIC!
People know that it is Richie's voice that successfully carried the Dupree's for over 22 years to where they are today. Richie on Aug 1st did a guest appearance in Brookdale park in Bloomfield with the Infernos in front of almost 1500 people and got 4 standing ovations. As soon as his name was annouced the crowd went wild.
harriette41, how wonderful that must have been , wish we all could have been there for that fantastic show !! What a Birthday present you had !! And well deserved !
How about bring back the real original Mike Kelly ,Richie was never on any hit record that was ever recorded by the Duprees . He sang with them , he was good ,but never a founding original ,but the best And please dont support the bogus Duprees out there today . There strictley a TRIBUTE ACT and thats for sure . Non were ever on any record that was recorded . Their day will come when it will all turn around ,and there days as a Dupree will be over, and given back to the last originals AMEN
well dig them up and have Mike Kelly come back then: PROBLEM SOLVED, sorry I know this was mean, but if people dont' want to hear the tribute artists/groups then SO BE IT: DO NOT LISTEN to them... get the OLD records out... DAMN people, CHANGE THE CHANNEL ALREADY...
Always amazes me how people stick around for things just to pitch a b***. People complain about TV, Movies, entertainers that they hate...Just change the channel. How hard is that to figure out!
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I love these guys...All of them are very talented singers and they love their fans and treat them like family...
The very definition of "original" is something that is there from the beginning. The Duprees from the early 1960's were the only original members of the group. Many singers have sung with the group since then, and recorded their songs, but they are not originals.
They may not be "originals", but some of them performed with the group when a few of the originals were still there. A small distinction but it means something.
they should have never called them selfs the duprees maybe a tribute band to the duprees and besides not one of the new "DUPREES" are from JERSEY CITY.
Can they call their selfs Duprees anymore now there is no Original. And Mike Arone's family own the name ?? They sure need Richie Rosato back as lead!!!!
Boozer from Sha Na Na got a law passed trying to protect the oldies groups from imitators, both in NY and Fl, now most oldies groups have to have at least one original member in the group otherwise their a tribute band, and should say this when they sell tickets. There are several Drifters groups, Platters and some of the very early groups, while I've seen The Duprees, I happen to think their very good, The music quality is not much different in my opinion from the originals.
LOL.....sometimes my fingers type faster than what I'm thinking.......this doowoplvr wonders that as we all age out, what will become of the "sound". The "sound" will eventually be silenced, and that will be a sad day for future generations to come.
Nice Tribute group

I recently heard there is some friction amongst some of the group members, and one or two members was/were replaced.
It would be disappointing if this was true, because you can't improve perfection.
I feel sure it could not have been member Phil. He brings out the best in everyone!

Somebody needs to inform these guys that if they are going to intruduce the
Exodus song (This land is mine....) on stage that it is not and was never in any
way intended to be an American patriotic song . Can it be that they don't know
the meaning of the song????Or don't they respect the author, intent, or the
audience. Stunning gaffe at the Keswick Theatre last PM and their assistant
selling T shirts in the lobby wouldn't even agree to pass it on......sing on...but
don't misinform.....
