  • I was 6 then and I will never forget the damage I saw from that storm. Balmoral, Manly to Narrabeen. The power black outs and the rain. It was just like a tripical cyclone. Thanks for the footage. Enjoyed

  • My grandfather did a 8mm film that same year a month before. But it was standard 8mm he used. Great video. Love 8mm!

  • wow man, this is an amazing video!

wonder if any storms that big are coming up soon?

  • what a great piece of flm/history/art! thanks for posting, 5 stars and a fave! ...how about posting some more of your fathers S8 films? would be really great to see! ...i'm going to subscribe just incase you do!

  • I remember that swell, it was May 1974, i was at school and i saw a wave break from South head and roll right across to middle head foam all the way, I surfed Neilson Park that day, really scary, double bay even had a one foot wave. Well done with your film , i think ive got some super8 of that day around, thanks for the memories, cheers

  • many people game to surf that?

  • There might have been a few surfers out at Manly or the Bower (around the headland a few KM's south out of the wind & swell) but I seriously doubt many would have surfed on this particular day. We didn't see anyone from our house.

  • Thanks Simulatoar, glad you like the clip...it's a great part of the world, that stretch you live in...next time the surf's huge make sure you grab a camera.

  • Thanks sportsmedia, we now live just down the road from your old house and this is pretty cool footage
