  • Thank you. Worked well.

  • Does this only work with 2.2.1? not higher like 2.3.4?

Sorry for the comment repeat. I didn’t realize my sister was signed in. Please respond to this post.

  • this only workd with 2.2.1? not higher like 2.3.4?

  • Hi thanks for this video, I was able to do this to my wife's and my mytouch 4g's without problem. I an unable to get root access on my coworkers phone tho. I am able to use visionary to temp root the phone then in terminal I am able to run all through # sh root.sh, I get the same outcome as you when I attempt perm root through visionary and the phone reboots I go into terminal with "access denied" from sh command. I have tried multiple times now...

  • @lcq4blackstar *su command = access denied after visionary perm root attempt. Phone is on 2.2.1 also...

  • thanks so much for this video..very easy and very detailed :D

    cd:cant cd to sdcard/root/

  • no I dont know how to unzip the file. I have it downloaded but cant unzip it.

  • @diablokendall1 Download a program called Winrar, or if you want 7Zip. You can use those to open the rar

  • @ELBdelorean how do I unzip and make a root folder. when I put the root on my sd card it seems to not wanna do anything. everything else worked I have visionary . just the perm root file.

  • @diablokendall1 Do you not know how to unzip it or something?

  • @Gruuvin1 If you look at my Gfree root video, there is a link to written instructions that explain it.

  • Hey man I keep on getting s=on...

  • wat does "s-off" mean?

  • @xXlilmoeXx it means security=off this way the phone cant detect if the rom you are trying to install is official or not

  • It keeps saying su permission denied. i been up for 10 hours trying. no luck!

  • ok it worked but it still says s on

  • @510LTC510 same problem

  • ok i finally got this process to work exactly like u said it would but it still says my network is locked when i put in the at&t sim card...i could use a lil technical saavy advice rite now!!!!

  • yo everything seemed to go exactly the way the video did right until the very last su command in terminal emulator...i am so stuck...do u have any clue to why i may still be denied su permissions???

  • I did everything you said to do but when i try to do the last terminal thing it says "permission denied"

  • @lildude1324 I'm having the same issue.

  • @lildude1324 me too.

  • @lildude1324 You have to have temp-rooted your phone using Visionary.

  • @lildude1324 I had the same problem and I did everything in the instructions. checked on debug, checked off fastboot clicked on unkown resources

  • @lildude1324 me too

  • when i put su in terminal emulater it says "su: must be suid to work properly"

  • when i put su in tern=minal emulater it says "su: must be suid to work properly"

  • when i down load the root.rar file from media fire it can not be extracted. it just a white file by its self? need help please

  • Comment removed

  • when i put in the cd sdcard/root it says can't cd to sdcard/root

  • so this method doesnt work for me. I can get superuser to stay in my app tray, but when i type su in the terminal, i get denied. I guess the gfree way is the only way.

  • worked like a charm... thanks buddy. looks like the mediafire file (.rar) when extracted looks like this: root/root/(files located here)...so there might be another step in the terminal to open that file...just letting you know. thanks though!

  • @I2IEAILiiTY Yeah, I have a video on flashing CyanogenMod 7, but if you just follow that video without upgrading to ClockworkMod 3, then it is the same as flashing a Froyo ROM.

  • @I2IEAILiiTY Ah, okay, that makes sense. If you get the hang of adb, it can actually be easier doing it that way.

  • @I2IEAILiiTY Really? How did you manage to do the gfree method without adb?

  • now i got what you are saying. up under the cant open message is a $ sign

  • okay! which one is that?

  • @chasegreen1124 The first link; root.rar.

  • @ELBdelorean okay. now i got all the way and i went back to visionary and clicked attempt perm root and it doesnt do anything i keep clicking on it and it still doesnt do anything.

  • @chasegreen1124 You ran root.sh before this? Try uninstalling Visionary and reinstalling it.

  • @ELBdelorean no. i extracted it on winrar. and then it did everything right all the way till i click attempt perm root and it doesnt do anything at all. i kept clicking on it and it still didnt do anything.

  • @chasegreen1124 You were supposed to run root.sh before attempting the perm-root.

  • @ELBdelorean how do i do that?

  • @ELBdelorean i still dont understand why this wont work ive redone everything like 10 times haha

  • @ELBdelorean okay. i did that. now when i go back in i type in su and another $ sign came up

  • @chasegreen1124 Did you temp root before attempting to use 'su'?

  • @ELBdelorean yes

  • @chasegreen1124 Just keep running 'su' until you get the '#' prefix. Then run root.sh and perm-root. This can take a few times to stick. If it doesn't work for you, you can try the more advanced albeit more thorough gfree method.

  • @ELBdelorean whats that

  • @chasegreen1124 It's another way to root; look it up on the XDA-Developers forum.

  • When I try rooting my mytouch 4g when i type in cd sdcard/root/ it says cd: cant cd to sdcard/root/

    can you please help?

  • @chasegreen1124 Did you make a root folder in your SD-card?

  • @ELBdelorean no. do i need to make a root folder and put that root download in it?

  • @ELBdelorean oops! i missed that part of the video haha

  • @ELBdelorean now it says sh: cant open root.sh

  • @chasegreen1124 Does it have a '$' or a '#' before it?

  • @ELBdelorean @ELBdelorean i typed in sh root.sh and it had a # in front of it and then the message i got was sh: Can't open root.sh

  • @chasegreen1124 Try re-downloading the root.sh and placing it in there again.

  • @ELBdelorean okay. now i redownloaded it. and the same error message comes up and now it has a # sign up under it.

  • @chasegreen1124 If you navigate to the root folder, what files do you see in there?

  • @ELBdelorean root.rar and visionary

  • @chasegreen1124 Okay, you should have unzipped the root.rar file and placed the root folder in the SD-card.

  • @ELBdelorean how do i do that?

  • @chasegreen1124 What operating system are you using?

  • @ELBdelorean windows 7.

  • @chasegreen1124 Google WinRAR and download it. Then, open the root.rar file and place the newly extracted file in the root of your SD Card.

  • @ELBdelorean i reinstalled visionary and now i clicked it and it rebooted and i went back in to check it in the terminal emulator and and isnt rooted.

  • @chasegreen1124 Do the process over again. Run temp-root, run root.sh, and attempt perm-root.

  • @I2IEAILiiTY If you need help with it, you can email me at ELBdelorean@gmail.com

  • @I2IEAILiiTY I can try to make one but I don't know if I can because I'm swamped in work right now.

  • What do you do after attempt to perm root and you ty su and it says permission denied?

  • @kaleom Try attempting Perm-Root again.

  • @ELBdelorean tried like 10 times already

  • For anyone having problems getting this to work, try the gfree method found at the XDA-Developers forums in the myTouch 4G section. It's quite a bit more advanced but it should work.

  • i did everything you did but my phone still has S-ON

  • dirent work man

  • u dont need "set system r/w after root"?

    or s-off?

  • u dont need "set system r/w after root"?

  • I followed the steps in the video. Got the confirmation too and still cant boot into recovery?

  • What did I do wrong if I can confirm the perm root but can boot into recovery?

  • @jofrederick Do you mean you can't boot into recovery?

  • Ok, I followed the instructions in the exact order. hboot still says s-on. My phone came with 2.2.1 out of the box, I don't know if that would make any difference.

  • got it going. not sure what i was doing but I got it rooted! Thanks Great vid!

  • Mine says synchronizing right after the sh root.sh...so it looks like this..... "# sh root.shSynchronizing" any idea?

  • @ongbaq2 Does it continue with the execution process?

  • @ELBdelorean it stayed like that for a while. I ended up rebooting and my phone is fine. i am going to watch the vid again, maybe i missed something....

  • when you say "type in su to see if you are permanently rooted hit enter..." well right after that you say "and S-OFF". thats not a command right? it was just a statement?

  • @mkollek Yes. To check if S is OFF, turn off your phone and turn it back on whilst holding Volume-Down.

  • I flashed it and everything worked according to plan until the final reboot. Now it just plays the CM7 intro over and over. Any fix?

  • @Christaxi81 This video isn't for CM7 but are you sure you wiped before flashing?

  • @ELBdelorean Totally forgot! It's working well now. Thanks!

  • IT SAYS CANT OPEN ROOT WHEN IM IN TURMINAL HELP PLEASE

    !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks a bunch. Simple straightforward instructions. Was a breeze, took me 2 mins to do this. Now, I will try flashing CM7 on my phone :)

  • Cant get my phone to permroot. I did all these steps on my last mt4g and it worked fine, but i just broke that phone and got my replacement. Im trying to root this and it wont now. i can make it through every step, when the phone reboots after "attempt to permroot" i feel like it worked, and then i dbl check in terminal and it didnt work anytips?

  • @joeysaba How many times did you do it? It might take a few tries before it sticks.

  • @ELBdelorean i gotta be on like the 6th time now, ill keep trying if you think itll work. The mt4g i had prior was super easy to root haha

  • @ELBdelorean i gotta be on like 6th time, my other mt4g was super easy to root too. Im gonna keep trying

  • @ELBdelorean a bunch im gonna keep trying

  • I see you have a mac, so do I. When I download the root file, I don't know how to extact it so that I can save the files to my sd card. Can you help me with this? I have everything else down except for that one hiccup.

  • @idelgado782 You need a program to extract RARs. I use UnRarX because it does the job and it's free. I don't think I can post links on comments so if you search "UnRarX" on Google then you should find it.

  • yes, because when i execute it i temproot, then type su and it says super user activated

  • how many times did you have to do this to get it to work, because it isn't working and its been like 5 tries already

  • @circajesse That's odd. Try checking if S-OFF. Power off your device. Then, hold power and volume-down until you see a white screen. Near the top, it should say "S-ON" or "S-OFF". Which one does it say?

  • @ELBdelorean S-on

  • @circajesse Did you unzip the "root.rar" file into the root of your SD card?

  • @ELBdelorean i unzipped it onto my desktop, then moved it into my sd card(the root if the sdcard)

  • @circajesse Are you sure you have superuser permissions when you execute root.sh?

  • awww, you should get it, its beast

  • @circajesse I have it for Xbox already and again, I'm on a Mac.

  • dude whats your steam, also do you have black ops for pc?

  • @circajesse 9potterfan and no. I mostly play Xbox and I'm on a Mac :P

  • ok, pretty much you are saying to repeat the whole process until it sticks right?(sorry, im confused xD)

  • @circajesse Pretty much.

  • also, when you click temproot is the "set system r/w after root" checked?

  • @circajesse Leave it unchecked.

  • dude, i did exactly what you did, and when i turn my hone on i get "permission denied" when i type in su

  • @circajesse Yeah, you might have to execute the "root.sh" file and attempt perm-root from Visionary a couple more times for the root to "stick."

  • @ELBdelorean you mean delete it?

  • @circajesse No. Navigate to the root folder in Terminal Emulator and execute the "sh root.sh" command. Then attempt perm-root in Visionary.
