  • Great player.

    Bad teacher. xD

  • The guy is a total genius. End of. Don't even begin to diss him.

  • i think malmsteen is really musical, the speed display isn't at the expense of musicality to me, it just adds to the exicitment, most of his imitators don't come close, the only critism i would offer him is it would be interesting if he explored new areas, the classical styles getting a bit stale, lets face it it was hundereds of years old before he got there, most of the other hyper shredders don't really have his basic musicallity

  • back when i was playing i wanted to do that but it wasnt because of guitar it was because of piano or harp, i loved to hear liberace play piano he was very talented

  • so boring

  • @TOMSGROOVES cuz u cant do it!!

  • @jktarheel I cant play like Paul Gilbert either but I dont find him boring. Malmsteen is just horrible to listen to.

  • @TOMSGROOVES so your checkin out a malmsteen video? i can tell ur trollin or bored either way go along kiddie

  • @camaflashstudio kiddie? I shit bigger than you!

  • Comment removed

  • He always has to point out this E scale goes with this A scale and throw in these diminished arpeggios.its like hes stuck in a world with no variation so he has to explain that it may all sound the same but its diffrent u no?he is great but gets boring fast.i loved him wen it was new,no string skipping or much tempo change tho just the wall of notes over n over.he was the 1st tho.

  • @jtyrubnah8r his wankery has sounded the same from day one. He's overhyped and frankly unoriginal.

  • @biotoxin21 he was over hyped at one time but no longer ,honestly most player see him as a joke.i find him annoying as he is a suburb player with no sense of moderation.as to him being unoriginal .not in the 80`s .and yes he plays largely the same from day one .like van halen like Hendrix like just about every popular player out there .it would be interesting to see if you could name a player who has evolved significantly over the last 30 years excluding PG ?

  • @MUDSHARK111 Easy. Eric Johnson. And after that Guthrie Govan.

  • OK MALMSTEEN, THEY ALL PLAY IN THE SAME BOX AND YOU PLAY THE SAME SCALES OVER N OVER

  • I herad people saying that he's arrogant... I think that anyone who teaches his personal way of playing is truly an amazing person, and you can say this video is subjective but just listening to him teaching and giving examples... WAAAHH!! Yngwie fuckin rocks !!

  • What the fuckk?

    0:54

  • @666tribe it gets easy with time and practice

  • it is easy to play the same ol classical bs over and over after you do it for 20 years

  • @1976Stratomaster If that were the case, then all of us should have our very own signiture series Fender Stratocaster. I see that you do not. So much for your bs! :)

  • Its always amazing how differently people hear guitar. I think Yngwie is one of the very few "speed guitarists" who DOES have soul in his playing. Ear of the beholder, I guess.

  • @bongofury67 That's because people misinterpret the meaning of soul/feel. They think it means blues, but it just means to play as if it's natural to you.

  • @NosferatuOfWorms Very well put.

  • "Those who can, understand. Those who can't, won't get it"

The guy practiced his guitar 4 to 12 hours a day, when he was growing up. Any serious musician you can think of who has attained a similar level of technical prowess, has done the same. I can absolutely promise you that! This seeming to be rarely mentioned fact, can never be stated enough! It's natures way of separating the pro's from the weekend warriors & neither being a better person, btw. Do your own research.

  • @zenosonik I concur sir, great men do daily, what average men do on occassion.

  • @blackstar6938 Haha! Good words! Thank You kindly Sir!

  • I notice a lot of people who say they aren't getting it or that Yngwie can't teach etc. The reality is that this video/master class isn't geared for beginners (or maybe beginners to this playing style). If one wants to really play Neo Classical Fusion (A term first coined by Mike Varney, I think) guitar, you've got to thoroughly learn all of it's associated techniques, scales, arpeggios and the gamut first, and if you have, or when you do, everything here will make immediate & perfect sense.

  • I dont know about you guys, but I know a pretty decent amount of theory and this lesson makes a lot of sense.

  • What the hell did he do at 2:45....

  • @sverio12345 its an ascending diminished arpeggio

  • Those who can,do and also teach to make a few extra bucks! It gets my goat people slagging off shredding saying there's no feeling. This only happens with guitar.Shredding gives you more control and makes you more aware of expression with slower phrases.I think a lot of it is jealousy from players who really wish they can do it.Those that can shred and slag it off do it because they are trying to be cool.Personally I love a good shred after a bad day.Check out his Suffer me solo for feel

  • He can shred like no one else....but what good is it? getting laid by some airheaded blonde who thinks hes god. No soul, no structure....no blues....no roots....just non stop notes full of jibberish.

  • @leeportcam You used the word `what good is it' and `getting laid by some airhead blonde' in the same sentence???

  • @Danazawa obviously you need to shred to get laid...sad.

  • @leeportcam Your girlfriend has been double-teamed by two shredders with poodle-perms!

  • @Danazawa weak

  • @leeportcam Yeah, guess you're right, because when we think of classically influenced music or Bach (the father of classical music) we never think of structure or roots! I'm sure it hasn't occurred to you that a tutorial on technique is a different animal than a song or musical piece? Or that he chose this style (& the dedication required to master it) because he genuinely loves it, and others musical opinions that differ from his own, weren't on his list of considerations? He can play blues btw

  • @zenosonik I can appreciate your comment. But he still has no soul in his playing. And you're right, I wont ever get it..

  • @leeportcam I can understand that perception, especially when you think of players that are nothing but soul... Apples & oranges I suppose;)

  • at least he's being honest here..lol he is a real character, but i always thought he was a more disciplined player by that i mean to know exactly what he was doing and everythg being intentional and pre-planned & thought out..but i guess thats not the case he does as much as he has to do to reach the desired effect.without necessarily thinking about it.

  • yngwie is an economy picker woow

  • I'm not a guitar player so correct me if i'm wrong but i've come to think that he's as good as he is because he understands the guitar. Many people can play without knowing what really goes on but seems like he knows how to use his guitar to full potential.

  • Legendary player, but everything he plays "sounds" the same, and I'm not a fan of this sound.

  • he has all the right to make it look easy as fuck

  • angry malmsteen?

  • he's awesome i wont deny that but emotion wise he lacks alot technically hes really good speed and etc. but if he slowed down and focused on certain notes it'd be amazing well then again he wouldn't be him if he did that waaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • @ebos89 ha ha nice... i agree!

  • Yngwie...LOL yeah just do this and you can play like me

  • Bread and butter.. lol

  • Yngwie may be the most talented nut-head musician on the planet.

  • Just like Vai this man plays fast 80's montage music....I don't get it at all.

  • @TheOrderoftheOwl Now you've started commenting on fast guitar players videos, you're forbidden to stop until you've commented on all of them. I will then make a montage of your comments on said "80s montage music" guitarists videos.

  • @kibijit hahaha, u gonna die for this bro

  • fast slow whatever / nice one

  • Yngwie is not a musical professor... rather a great player... truthfully one of the best at what he is doing... who cares if he knows the finer points of musically theory...

  • I still see a lot of guitarists using tabulature. That is like a car engine that needs to be rebuilt... and "just" changing the oil filter. Just get it over with and learn to read music. You're putting yourself way, way back by applying this "crutch" to yourself.

  • I recently watched a wonderful YouTube lecture by Lawrence Krauss. It was about quantum physics. I think I understood more in that video than I did in this one.

  • @BlueThunderFlik I agree. This is not teaching. When I was doing my bachelor's degree, my guitar prof rarely, rarely play his instrument during lessons.

  • "you can just do this one *plays the hell out of that guitar* Or you can do this *even more killer* or like this * the guitar burns* or just do this" *the camera collapses"

  • "Phrygian dominant" **IS WRONG*. Phrygian is a mode. The "dominant" is a V chord in a given key. DO NOT misuse terminology with students. You'll screw them up. An F Phrygian scale (when compared to F Major, -or Ionian-) is flat 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th (F G Ab Bb C Db Eb F). If you start on C, the result will actually be a synthetic mode. The result is a C Phrygian scale with a raised 3rd.

  • @kdsf12 It is "synthetic" because the lower tetrachord (C Db E F) does not exist in the commonly accepted modes (Ionian (major), Dorian (b3, b7), Phrygian (b2 b3 b6 b7), Lydian (#4), Mixolydian (b7), Aeolian (b3 b6 b7), Locrian (b2 b3 b5 b6 b7)

  • @kdsf12 knuckleheads that only know "half-assed" theory -that go on to screw other people up- makes me want to kill somebody.

  • @kdsf12 Commonly excepted modes? You mean the modes of the major scale? Yngwie is using a minor scale. more specifically, harmonic minor, one of the three minor scales. To create this scale, we take natural minor(aeolian) and raise the 7th. Thats harmonic minor. So the chords built from the scale, if using A harmonic minor, would be Amin(M7). Bm7b5, Cmaj7aug, Dm7, E7b9, Fmaj7, G#dim7. See the E7b9 in that scale? Thats the mode he is talking about there. Now what were you saying about a PhD?

  • @kdsf12 So Yngwie has been wrong for all his life since he played classical music when he was kid? Then his teacher was wrong too.

  • @Scumbot404 I have a Bmus Mmus, 10 times as composer-in-residence at a place I won't mention here, also Ph.D (abd) in composition. My specialty is neo-serial primitivism.

.... and yes, he's wrong. Do not confuse students by misusing terminology. The "dominant" is a V chord in a given key. Starting a scale upon the fifth note of it does not make it "dominant". If you were to use this terminology on an exam in MUTC 201-203, you would get an F.

  • @kdsf12 He is also wrong about pizzicato. That is not how you play pizzicato on the guitar. It is played with the thumb (no pick or "plectrum"), damping upon the bridge with the palm of the hand.

  • @kdsf12 DIRTBAGGY

  • @kdsf12 Your that qualified and still have no idea of your modes of harmonic minor? Phyrgian Dominant is considered the common name for the 5th mode of harmonic minor. V7b9 to be exact. Stack chords correctly then tell me what the V chord is when the i is Im(maj7).

  • Ya know, ya know, ya know, uh, uh, uh, uh, scales, scales, scales, uh, you know, Ing vee CANNOT play the blews or the BLUES. Why do you not just inv ert it Ing Vee? Play Highwaystar twice as fast and I will be impressed.

  • @skwiddjergensen

Even if you can play these scalar runs with articulation, dexterity and speed....Yngwie can smoke the blues.. and also play HW star 3x as fast as You, Richie Blackmore and all your friends !

  • Yngwie Malmstein. Cock Sucker...

  • He is one of the greats of our time.

  • @aaronbergAPB The LEAST of our times.

  • Till now i believe Yngwie is still the finest and best guitarist of the decades.I remember 26 yrs ago when i was 14,listening to what he plays, was wondering what the hell this guy was playing, till i enrols at a music school" Yamaha" then i realise this guy was playing neo-classical,and at that time not many guitarist that can plays clean heavy sound.Salute and respect him cos he's the king of neoclassical....Yeah

  • @BLACKIE19788 Go back to school. Your ability to spell words, and your grammar, sucks.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey In Vee, turn off the echoe and chorus, dipshit.

  • @skwiddjergensen Why u try to talk with "In Vee" The is a vid and has been uploaded years ago but u still try to say something to him hehehe. U kno this isnt video chat, he cant hear nor read u, this is youtube. Scccchhmuck! 3=m,=o

  • @Scumbot404 You are off of your medications.

  • Ing Vee is a retard who plays really fast. I think he is off of his medication. How about playing Highway Star twice as fast as Blackmnore. He could call it Lokie vs. Thor in the valley of the giants. (Gudbrandsdalen)

  • @skwiddjergensen btw why u actually r so against Yngwie? Bcs u never learned to play guitar and now u r so so jealous? Or did ur best friend, who happens to love Yngwie, take ur girlfriend and gave her more delicious and bigger dick? I mean... there's something in u... some craziness driving u mad... and u r like obsessed when u spit out ur lame jokes about YNGWIE J. MALMSTEEN. Try a rope with vaseline. It's quite fast.

  • @Scumbot404 Professional guitar player for 30 years. I get paid to play. Now shut the F.U. and play your guitar. (Wise words of Frank Zappa)

  • stop saying he's got a big ego..dammit if you were a doctor would you say you were a mediocre doctor..the same goes for any profession out there..attorneys dont advertise by saying im a lame attorney...nothing wrong with saying "im AWESOME on what i do" .........

  • @alpacino92780 NOT awesome. Finger flicker is more like it.

  • @skwiddjergensen didnt say it was awesome i was defending that the fact that everyone calls him egocentric ...he found something that appeals to certain audience and he's banking on it... that's awesome...wouldn't you say? that fact you don't like its OK..but you have to respect his achievement...musically and business wise. I read you claim to be a musician playing for 30 years and getting paid..if that is true no true musician would disrespect another musician's craft..SO...

  • @alpacino92780 paraphrasing your own Mr.s Zappas quote : SHUT THE F.U. AND PLAY YOUR GUITAR..

  • He is so phridgid. El-Sucko!!!

  • Mr. speedy licks could never come up with songs like: LAZY, HIGHWAY STAR, PERFECT STRANGERS, THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME. Not to mention Robin Trower. Ing Vee has a cucumber up his ass and is a legend in his own mind. Hell, just for shits and giggles, listen to: Janes Addiction; Stray Cats. OR: Brian Seltzer Band.

  • @skwiddjergensen u r crazy little guy:D ur mouth is so full of crap that u will choke on it.

  • @Scumbot404 Hey, your name fits you: scum bot. What kindof air guitar playing worshipper name is that?

  • @Scumbot404 If you want to have talent to listen to, then listen to Jane's Addiction: Strays or Brian Seltser Orchestra or Toni Iommi or something besides this name dropping tight leather pants wearing scale player!

  • @skwiddjergensen as a guitar player (19 yrs) I have ofc many talented idols. Such as S. Vai, J. Hendrix, J. Petrucci, M. Romeo, SRV, and definitely YJM!! Oh and I do have a clue bout Iommi. Since I first time heard Sabbath. As u might see the point, we all have our opinions about the music and its players, which is why this kind of discussions are fully unnecessary crap and they dont lead anywhere. U have shown some talents too. U kno how to be an arrogant utube asshole:D

  • @Scumbot404

Learn some English and fix your grammar before you try to rant. Makes you look like a real idiot.

  • @rhb271 What did i do? o.0

  • @rhb271 so wht?

  • @Scumbot404

regardless of what style you play and enjoy...Yngwie's speed, articulation ,and fury are out of this solar system. As an example ....compare how fiery this live performance is next to the original.

  • @miketharin agree

  • @Scumbot404 You are a real name dropper aren't you?! Probably talk that shit at every pot smoking party you go to with wet dreams of ing vees' leather pants dancing in your empty head.

  • @skwiddjerkensen u sir are funny basterd XD U excrete too inevitable shit from the hole on ur face which Im not sure is it mouth or the second asshole. Seems u've never ever learned what is an opinion, and it fits for u perfectly that u claim ppl only lie. What else I can expect from meth junkie like u:) Just hangn there poor guy. Sun will shine for u if u just could go out from the bedroom where u live with computer.

  • @skwiddjergensen btw who's Brian Seltser? U must mean Brian Setzer.

  • @skwiddjergensen I am old enough to remember when Yngwie arrived on the scene. And I will admit that to sit and listen to an entire CD of his playing would be impossible. To me blackmore, Slash, even Brad Paisley play with more soul. But his talent cant be denied. I feel the same about Vai. I just cant sit and listen to an entire CD but they are virtuoso's. But I get what your saying.

  • @hagtar12 Thank you. Yngwie IS talented. Now play a CD for me. "Cross Purposes" by Black Sabbath. Go to track number six and listen to how a REAL MAN with BALLS can make a guitar weep!

  • Comment removed

  • Gee ing vee, you cannot play the blues. you never have.

  • @skwiddjergensen he's not a blues guitarist. He has his own style influenced by Hendrix, Blackmoore, Vivaldi etc. Btw do u kno something bout the music?

  • @Scumbot404 Have you read his reviews bad mouthing other guitar players? He sucks.

  • @Scumbot404 Really?!! He is not a blues player? NO SHIT DUMBAASS. He shreds and plays minorities encompasssing the sonata of figaro with his pinky ring sustaining the fifth suspende minor chord.

  • @skwiddjergensen u indeed r crazy lil pube schmuck XD u dont have a clue what happens here hehehe All u say is "blah blah blblblblrrrr blagluglugagga gaga aggahh" and then u dropped ur tittybottle and cried.

  • Sounds so good with that slap echoe, reverb and chorus. WOW! Bet he cannot sing and play at the same time. LOSER!!

  • what edition was this in?

  • Who is this Bieber character?I love Yngwie's music and always have but I would love to hear him just once play a different guitar like a Carvin or custom shop Washburn just to see how awesome it would sound;I don't like Fender because I'm not a fan of the ping and pang and that's just me I know but I would like to hear him play something else.

  • people worry too much about what their pick is doing...just do what comes naturally

  • he's not your guitar teacher, chill out!

  • Damn he's drunk:)

  • this man cant teach at all

  • @dvpkid .. or then u cant learn.

  • @dvpkid He cannot play with emotion or style: Boogy, blues, jazz, etc... Cannot even write a song!

  • @dvpkid

"Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach"

  • @SotR59 exactly... lol

  • @SotR59 Why does everyone say that? My German teacher can speak better German than anyone else I know. My math teacher is better at math than anyone else I know. My guitar teacher is much better at guitar than me or any other guitarist I've met (in person). That statement makes no sense.

  • @GodlessShredder

If you don't get it then it no explaination will satisfy you.

  • @SotR59 Bullshit. Either there's no explanation or you're too lazy to explain.

  • @GodlessShredder

Or else you're too dumb to understand it in the first place. I've never heard anyone ask what the phrase means.

  • @SotR59 Taken literally, the phrase is demonstrably false and has no basis in truth... I think that means I'm justified in asking what it means.

  • @GodlessShredder yeah he just probably made up that "proverbial statment"

  • @SotR59 so you want people who don't know how to do things to teach other people WHEN THEY CANT EVEN DO IT THEMSELVES? what a fail comment.

  • @SotR59 only a fuckwit would say or agree with that.

  • @wxyzxdll lol those who can't teach... put a pistol in their mouth

  • @SotR59

Or those who don't WANT to teach :)

  • @dvpkid It depends how ur brains and ears work together. Oh and attitudes are also distracting things. I've learned much from Yngwie.

  • Him thught it out and thunk and it is true cause everyone asked of him. He wnted to play beethoven note for note without thinking about it, Ya' know??!!! Just ask that nigger from the fifties, what was his name?

  • @skwiddjergensen Oh yeah, Chuck Berry.

  • WOW! Oh gee yngwie, will you polish your leather pants for me and play smoke on the water?

  • @skwiddjergensen nice troll. (bieber fans are on their troll tour)

  • @Scumbot404 Scum? Bieber? Your mouth is full of shit.

  • @skwiddjergensen rofl look who's talking. Dont spread ur sad troll bs all over the place.

  • @Scumbot404 I do not doubt you are rolling on the floor. You have no ass if you place this poseur in such high esteem.

  • @skwiddjergensen What r u talking about XD High?

  • Gosh! Him so fast! Page could nail him to a cross when it comes to tone, originality and entertainment. Yngwie, learn how to fish and stop trying to get Ritchie's attention. Now go tune your guitar to a harmonic fifth suspended allegoric flat.

  • Whenever I hear harmonic minor I always think Django Reinhardt.

  • he is the shit..Gilbert is good..but come on..he changed the way allot of people played guitar..Gilbert...a good player but NOT IN THE SAME LEAGUE...PERIOD!

  • Yngwies picking hand is redicilious.

He just holds it still and points at the strings... amazing economy of motion.

  • @Jazga Just... Right, do it :D

  • @Jazga Amazing economy of emotion. originality and balls. (shrunken balls)

  • @skwiddjergensen :D economy of emotion..thats fukin brilliant :D

  • To all those out there both Yngwie and Gilbert have incredible technical playing skills. They play to different styles so it's kinda pointles to argue over such details as if it makes one player "better" than the other!

  • Scarified is one of the great shred instrumentals of the 80's, no doubt. However, I still stand by my comment that Yngwie has the best picking technique of the 80's shred guitarists, and I guarantee you Paul would agree with that comment.

  • I didn't understand anything but watched the whole video and liked it.

  • I can't understand a lot of what he says but at one point I heard him say "it comes out soundin bitchin" LOL

  • Yngwie's picking hand is the best in the business, period. His economy of motion is flawless. There is no tension in his picking hand/arm, and unlike the majority of players, the faster he plays the tighter his picking hand becomes and the smaller the motion. And yes, Yngwie does use economy picking when crossing over strings. I learned to play using strict alternate picking so it's very difficult for me to use that style of picking, but Yngwie clearly makes it work!

  • @H3llRazing disagree. paul gilbert has the best picking hand. scarified is my evidence.

  • Yngwie sucks as a teacher.. :-D

  • Anyone know a link to the tab figures in here?

  • Not the most verbally articulate player in the world, but damn - what a G player!

  • michael schenker.

  • This with the transcribe audio function on is hilarious

  • this is his way of teaching though his words , to anyone who really knows theory this can be useful but i had a few good laughs because I've been in that spot more than once.

  • Does anyone ask to video this guy or does he video himself?

  • Its awesome to see him so humble compared to when he was an arrogant prick back in the day. I think if he was like this in the late eighties he would have been even bigger!

  • It's all in his technique. There's no effects hiding his tone, he picks every note with clarity, and his vibrato is wicked. Sure lots more are creative, but Malmsteen has mastered the art of what he does.

  • the definition of an excessive noodler..it all sounds the same...

  • the only thing i got out of this lesson is you have to play with your ear......

  • He is trying to teach something that can't be taught....he sounds retarded when he explains some things sometimes and is to a degree but also so far beyond our comprehension. Lke a drunk physics teacher trying to teach a 5 year old

  • yngwie you've been living in the USA for 30 years now, and you have problems putting together simple sentences in english...

  • i´ve seen a lot of videos of him, the only place that i havent saw him is in the water room

  • It doesn't matter if he's the fastest player, if he repeats notes, scales, whatever. He really changed the way guitar is played, for million of people all around the world. Guitar gods have been influenced by him, like Michael Romeo. It's like Hendrix. SRV was better, Tommy Emmanuel is better, even Shunga jung is better, but... He made it first. And maybe this people wouldn't know what a guitar is without his existant. So, stop writting shit about him. And sorry for my english, I'm argentinean.

  • Speed and theory.
