Had a .049 cox in one of those planes that had the handle and 2 strings about 20 feet long that controlled the elevators and went in circles about 30-35 years ago.

@beatboxkid8 glow plug uses 1.5V and you can just about run those engines on any model fuel. Preferably a fuel with some more castor oil than synthetic and more than 15% nitro to get top performance.
@danratsnapnames Actually I think it could be easy to make it work. Drill a hole in the tunnel below the carb and attach a fitting to it. Add another fuel line to the hose and couple it to the overfow on the tank. After filling the tank, use a tubing plug to seal the tank. As the throttle is closed, a vacuum will be sent to the tank reducing the flow to the engine. It would be like the opposite of a car engine with carb and turbo. Just keep the fuel at the same vacuum as the air under the carb.
@earlyhemibill i can see what your saying, however, that dump of vacume would be pressent even at full open, it would affect the needle valves ability to operate by reducing the amount of flow through it. true carbs adjust the fuel flow on the fly as the air passage is opened up, and closes the feul flow when the air passage is closed. now, if you can hook up a full carb to the intake, and just leave the needle wide open, with no fuel, and allow the carb to feed fuel, then that would work.
Hey i have a quastion that whean i buy this engine do i need something else to run it and what are the things.i have model engine fuel 16%,glow plug to hpi savage, i don t know what else do i need?
you can get a carb from a small rc engine like a .09 or a .12 engine its easy but i mosly wanted to make a muffler i already made the adaptor and now i need the can
well i doint know any links i got mine from a scrap parts box from a hobby store for $1 but i didnt test it yet im waiting for a shipment for 2 cox .049 engines i might make my own if my carb is too big
beautiful work. I am learning to use my new cnc mill which makes these things so much easier to make. Fabulous job, great addition to a wonderful little motor.
Good Idea !! Does it work at low RPM without the wires attached to the glow plug ?. If it doesn´t try usin a sleeve as restrictor for the exhaust gases to keep the temperature.
How much is that engine.

there's a much better way of doing this.. use an RC ring..

does this carb only adjust air flow? if so, then its not a true carb and it will Flood the engine after long periods of low idle.
i've fitted one of my 0.49's with something simular, but had to remove it due to this problem. the needle and carb must work together.

hey, urm u need fuel, tank, fuel lines, prop, spring starter and a glow plug clip( cox make special ones if u want)
crazystufffff 2 years ago
you need 20 % cator oil in it and the starting nitro must be 20-25%
so 8ml 20% nitro
2ml castor oil

This would be perfect to install in a Mini-Z or Mini-T, or something of that size. :D Do it.
